I usually just thank them by name without stating what the thanks is for. They know, and that's the important thing. I also make a habit of thanking medics and doctors who give out heals (if I'm in an NPC cantina and know there is a leveling medic/doctor I don't use accarragm). But, then I also just thank people who simply appreciate my performance (as long as they aren't lewd in any way).
