"Tumbling for tips!" - Not the tackiest, but causes great lag and is just as disruptive.

I'm an ATK Master Dancer and I love it. I chat with customers and enjoy many repeat visitors that make the quiet times in the cantina so much more enjoyable. Though I have the buffbots in my chosen cantina on /addignore, I'm always reluctant to do that to the other afkmusicians and dancers in case they ask for training, or actually come to life long enough to want to join my group (perhaps it's a bit snooty, but I only allow ATK, non-spamming entertainers in my group).

However, I had to change that stance last night to prevent myself from getting angry every time I saw a certain spam. One dancer repeatedly spammed several messages at a rate of at least one a minute - two of three were the usual "Tips and Heals Appreciated" and "All of entertainers are working together, please spread your tips around". Aggravating and annoying, but nothing all that unusual.

The spam that got to me (and while creative, I still find it tasteless beyond measure) is the following:

"All entertainers are wearing special cred-pouch equipped g-strings, so please tip us"!

Several times I found myself letting customers know that I was not, in fact, wearing such an article of clothing! I mean, I guess if she wants to say that about herself, that's one thing, but don't lump me in with you by saying "All Entertainers"!

In any case, just sharing

Not at all snooty. I will only listen to Musicians and watch Dancers that are at the keyboard, and because of the very rare breed you ATK entertainers are I never tip under 15k credits for mind/BF healing or just a friendly chat while I'm blowing off some down time. I love going to cantinas just for the music and ATK entertainers. I also /addignore anyone who spams though. I did doc, and none of the AFK/spammers realize what hipocrites(sp, i know)they are when they ask for tips and heals, yet they don't tip the doc that heals them. So a great big "THANKS" for actually being at the keyboard. Soon enough I've heard though that recursive macros will no longer be usable, lol, so all entertainers will be ATK.

Wanna hear the one that takes the cake? The ultimate evolution of complete laziness? There was a guy in coronet begging for credits at the ticket collector, saying please give me some credits so i can get off this damn planet. So hos this new? well he didn't even have the get up and go to do it himself, thats right the first ever AFK street beggar.

I believe the worst spam I ever saw was while grinding dancer on Bria. Was some girl advertising a buff by a 'hot azz chick'. I wanted to choke her.

You know what.... It's time that all text and /emote ability was removed from macros. Seriously... there is no good reason to allow anyone to have text in a macro. It has no positive impact on the game or the game chat engine.

There is at least one reason: To record a song together with a performance.

I've used text in macros to perform weddings and other types of events as well. Things that require long, prepared speeches... much nicer to not keep everyone on hold while frantically typing out a prewritten statement. Very useful in roleplaying events.

I agree, Deila. There are reasons for text in macros. Songs come to mind for one thing. I would be verysaddened if I couldn't hear Roho sing the song he wrote for me.

Unless you have team speak, you can't. You can only read it. He could very easily send that via in game email and you could "hear" it over and over again.

Seriously.. There is no GOOD reason for text in macros. Even for /sing items.

Reason is simple. You wrote a song and you wanna perform it. It's damn difficult to switch mood, cast emotes and type text of a song in the same time as you would perform it rl. Especially if English isn't your native language.
Off course you shouldn't sing songs in Coronet cantina, or in any other club where you are just one of many random entertainers. But when you are the only entertainer, especially if it's in your home town where everybody knows you, why not?
That you could do it via private email isn't an argument. You could easily play the whole game in private email rounds or pen and paper sessions. You do it in game, 'cause it is more fun to let it happen in the game world and not only in every single participants imagination. If it wasn't you wouldn't play SWG at all.

Reachwind, I was being metaphorical. Of course I can't "hear" anything but SOE generated sounds in the game. However, I don't expect ANYone to sit there and manually type out a song or a serious of vows.

Reach, just because you don't care for something doesn't mean it doesn't have its value to others. Don't discount things offhand as if our opinions and preferences don't have any worth, please.

Hmm well welcome to the club lady. What do you think it's like for those of us who don't agree with your version of how the game should be?

That's the reason why we have these discussion forums. So all of our opinions can be read and counter points made by those who disagree and those that may find inspiration for better ways of doing the things we disagree on the importance/acceptability of.

Unlike you I welcome further discussion because that's where ideas for improvements come from.

Not So!!! I use macros quite often when I am impersonating a stormtrooper. All that blah blah about imperial directives would be way too much to type. I love to time them just like the npc stormtroopers.

The only time I've ever seen a problem with text in a macro is an entertainer who is afk and spamming. So I think the ability should stay.
