Thread: Didn't know macroing was this bad.

I used to support the use of Macros, but only recently saw what a pain they are. I still use them, but they were to keep my hands free so I could chat with the cutomers because without them I'd go 15 minutes without doing a flourish... and boy with those dances that looked silly. So I use them with certain dances to 'coreograph' interesting stuff. But I'm usually at the keyboard. (Though some know that this week has been hard for me to do that since the neighbor next door and all that o.o)

But Goodness, I walk into almost any Cantina and it is stock full of AFK people. I mean, really. I see a benfit in Macros. But there is such thing as moderation. ANYTHING that's used to an excess is bad (god forbid- even chocolate) But goodness! This is just silly!

I have to agree with the others. Sure, it annoys me. But I know that a lot of these people do not understand the concept of a roleplaying game (like when my dad played Fallout and killed every living thing in ever city... then couldn't figure out why he couldn't finish the quests..... oy vey) They'll master... realize that the joy of entertainment is in the socializing- that happy regular customers bring in more tips. Without that basis- you don't get the friends and friendships that bring those tips and the fun in so you go to something else that will make you 'Uber.' ....Besides, if I were someone running in and out of Cantinas and seeing familiar AFK names, I don't know how willing I would be to tip them once they hit master because they never showed me they cared ^-^ People see those AFK people. I guess they think that they go into invisible mode or something.

Anyway, cheer up! They'll last about a month, get bored and go away.

I've only been playing for two weeks now, and I have seen the issue with AFK dancer/musicians when I run into the Cantina. The first thing I do is to make sure I do not watch an AFK entertainer. I also like the personal touch. If I am greeted by someone when I walk in, that is the person I will usually be watching or listening to, being a novice or a master...and I will tip nicely (if I have the credits :/ )

Entertainers are vital to SWG, don't give up. Just because someone is a master doesn't mean they are better by a long shot. Take that extra step and speak to those in the Cantina, etc. An entertainer is not someone that justs dances or plays music, but one that loves to converse with others. It's not easy, but that will go a long way in my opinion.

Not true, that applies to all professions.

People who do not converse are just as good as those dont.

The art of coversation in an online game may make your experince more enjoyable but is not mandatory.

You have people who love to solo, and you have people who love to group. Just because someone loves to solo and does not enjoy conversation that does not make them a bad entertainer. It just means that is one entertainer you will not enjoy if your the type that groups and enjoys conversing.

One thing I appreciate on Chilastra is that every one of the groups I've been in boot the AFK dancers/musicians.

Don't worry about afk'rs that just want to level, You'll make more money and friends then they will. You have to watch out for the ones that are good entertainers that can talk make friends and afk too..

I still don't care if you afk or not, I just want to be healed without having to look around.

I have to disagree with you, Lorelai. What you said may apply very well to most other classes, even to craftsmen who need some measure of salesmanship to succeed. But when it comes to entertainers, you cannot entertain effectively without engaging your audience.

Yes, perhaps you can push the flourish keys and switch outfits. Perhaps you could even set up some macros to run endlessly like "Boogie down folks!" But you will not engage your audience -- and thus, not entertain as well -- as someone who actually asks questions and listens to their customers. When Player X knows that you will remember him with each visit, and that you are interested in how his hunt or his crafting went, he will come back. He will tip. He will engage you in return (usually) thus improving YOUR game experience.

This profession seems to be split between those who operate it like a computer program and those who use the computer to achieve their goal of interaction with other players. The former could operate any old computer program - even Tetris - and do the same thing. The latter are using the game as a framework in which to develop their character and connect with other players. They, IMO, are the real entertainers.

What the AFK macro'ers and other power-levelers don't understand is that it's the journey, not the destination. They've robbed themselves of all the weeks of enjoyment and interaction the rest of us have had.

And these are the same people that post the "I made Master...now what" and "There's no content" posts.

Sinda you are taking the term Entertainer too seriously.

The class has a job, that is to heal mind wounds and battle fatigue.

Roleplaying while you perform that job may make you more appealing to otherpeople depending on how they like your attitude.

Your opinion is not right and it is not wrong. It is just that YOUR opinion. It is right according to you.And the sooner you learn to not enforce your opinion on others you may learn that they can be just as valuable.

Okay, first off, every time someone says "You are taking X too seriously" it comes off as an insult. The rest of your post is your opinion and I'll grant you that, but be careful how you word it. Of course, I'm sure someone will say I'm taking this too seriously, probably as a joke.

There is absolutely no way that you made Master Dancer in two weeks without extensive macroing. Unless you didn't sleep for two weeks. I know about big groups and I know their benefits. I've been playing this game since day 1, And the dancer who told me that she was two boxes short after 10 days was on 24/7 and most of the time macroing. So come out of the closet dear and admit it. It doesn't seem to bother you, so why not.

Ok now i'll wait for the inevitable veiled insults and (sigh) subtle patronizing, such as there is something wrong with me for feeling cheated by cheaters. Braces for the Blah, blah, blah.

If you play an Entertainer the way it was intended, I believe it's important to converse with your audience. It's very true that conversing with others in an online game is a personal decision and not required, but it goes a long way if you interact with others. Games such as Counter Strike interaction via coverstions is not needed. But online games such as MMORPG's it's a very important aspect. In time the game will be a black void. I have seen that in game such as EQ. The long time happy players, the majorityof the time, are people that got to know other people and made friendships.

Anyone can stand there and AFK their xp, but really what is the point as an Entertainer? So you are now a Master Dancer...but now what? Is there some sort of big ending to SWG once you make Master <whatever>?

I think too many people have the idea that if they can just get that next skill box suddenly the profession will be better somehow. Here's a news flash: it won't. You might get some dances whose animations you like better but watching your toon animate is not going to make the game a lot of fun for hours at a time. It's doing all those other things (coordinating dance moves, synching in time to the music, chatting with patrons, teasing your fellow band-mates) that you can do with Basic1 and SW1, and which you don't need profession mastery to do, that make the profession FUN.

Hence, a very wise dancer on another thread said something like this (not an exact quote but close enough):

If you didn't like entertaining when you were a novice, you won't like it any better as a Master, so you may as well not bother levelling in it, macros or not.

Jaysys,

You only have to read Texun's post to realise who most of the non-entertainer classes prefer when they walk into a cantina. Don't let the bot who got there in 2 weeks of macro-ing devalue you status. In the eyes of those who use our services, you are the true master, s/he's just a weak comparison.
