Thread: Another Reason to Dump Master Dancer =(
Sinda,
That is incorrect. I only have the first level of dancer technique and I have tested buffs on players. I do give a buff, just not as much of one as a master dancer. Each level of technique gives me slightly more buff ability. That is the "mind enhancement" stat when you select that box. Other than some dances, I don't know that master offers anything that can't be done at a lesser level and all master abilities can be done by a bot. I'm thinking of spending some time as a photgrapher looking to get cool screenshots of intesting/nice places in SWG until we get a little love in our class.

I play a Twi'lek dancer. She was close last night, very close, to getting Dance Knowledge III -- enough that I figured I could get it in about 4 hours. It's been like 2 weeks now and I was determined to get it last night. I logged in and met 2 friends at Keren cantina. No patrons were there. They started playing music, my character started dancing, and we started RPing and chatting with each other.
Now, this cantina is not normally very active. Sometimes only one or two people will come in all nights -- it depends on the alignment of the stars as near as I can tell..
One of the musicians said in groupchat: "Wow, someone noticed!"
The night went on, and more people came in. The cantina was a bit more crowded than usual. Some of the first batch people returned to get healed again. More tips came in. I ended up making 6K for the night -- probably the most in one evening that I have ever made in Keren cantina.
During the night there were other quotes made by people who had healed up. These included:
"Wow... You guys are great. I actually enjoyed my time healing in here. Thx."
"Now, THIS is what I always pictured entertainers to be like. What an awesome band."
"Man u guyz should go 2 theed cantina n teach those afkers a thing or 2."
"I heard there was a good group in here so I hopped a shuttle here instead of Theed. I'm glad I did."
"Wow. It's like a party in here. Anybody got beer?"
(I had some, since my PC has crafting skills, and I gave him some, which really made him smile. Got a nice FAT tip for it too.)
In all I think we received about 10 compliments from the combat type players, all of whom had clearly gotten fed up with the AFK-bot scene in Theed, and with entertainers who do nothing to entertain. One player said basically that he had "put the word out" to his buddies and all the other people he came across (combatant types) that Keren was the place to go for good service. And it was way more crowded last night than usual, in part, I am sure, due to this sort of word-of-mouth.
So here is the good news. The other players -- the non-entertainers -- are finally starting to really notice what is going on with AFK botting, and they are starting to get sick of it. So maybe... just maybe... this problem will, at least partially, take care of itself in the long run. We'll just have to see...

Yeah, but I think the problem is that they're assuming weALL engage in AFKing. I'm not sure they know that there are some of us who never dance AFK (except when we have togo to the fridgeto get a soda or something). I think most people just assume that we all do it, and that any active players they findare just caught between AFK sessions. This reflects poorly on all of us, and we need to stop it before dancers get even more disrespect.
This is one of the biggest problems with AFKers, but even more so is the fact that it's just not fun to be in around them. They don't laugh at my jokes or RP with me, or even accept my invitations

I know how you feel though, I may have started only this weekend but allready I had good and bad experiences.
A few days ago I logged in to a empty cantina in Mos Eisley and I started doing my thing, people came in to get healed and I interacted with them, gradually a few more entertainers came in and when we had a few dancers I stopped dancing and picked up my instrument for the first time. After a little while my ears started to hurt so I started to dance again. Within an hour we had a big band with a few musicians and 4-5 dancers, we even had a Master Dancer who joined in and I was stunned from the nice effects she did while she changed clothes during the smoke effect. There was even a bartender and people stayed for long, because they all had fun. There was a master tailor from another planet asking for information and selling some clothes that she had on her, a Expert hairstyler doing make-up for some of the entertainers. Tips were pretty high and at one point it was so crowded that I couldn't tell who walked in because it was just a big blue mess of names bleeding through eachother
That was really fun, everyone had fun but after a few hours the really good entertainers left and it was also time for my beauty sleep. I won't write about bad experiences because it's very similar to yours, hun
I am glad to hear that something is going to be done about it soon but isn't there more we active players can do about this situation ?
I heard something about /focus, I don't know exactly what it does but I heard rumours that it heals a specific patron much faster because you are focussing all your attention on one person, I am going to experiment with /focus tonight and I think it can be a very potent weapon against the XP leaches that just go watch a movie while we do their work for them
I hope someone else knows more about /focus and will explain alittle, just don't give up your master title, the social players would miss you very much, I think.
Take care hun and if you're ever in the neighbourhood, feel free to hop in and have fun with us.
"They don't laugh at my jokes"
Are you sure these folks are AFK? I've heard some of your jokes. Maybe these folks are going AFK for a reason, hehe.
Just kidding ![]()
I'm not a dancer, and thank god there in the game. But i dont understand how someone could pay to stand in one spot hitting F1-F10 keys all day. Great that you have fun doing that i guess, everyone in the game needs you. I can see a day when there are no dancers in the game cause it's to boring and nobody tips, and there all replaced with NPCs.
Anyway, glad you guys are in the game afk or not.
"i dont understand how someone could pay to stand in one spot hitting F1-F10 keys all day."
We don't hit keys all day. We mostly talk all day and let our macros hit the keys for us. In real life some folks like to hang out in bars drinking, and increase their rate of heart and liver disease. Some folks spend their free time sitting in the sun and significantlyincreasing their chances of getting Melanoma. Someguys seem tolike to get together in the woods away from women (what is that all about?)andkill animals for sport. People are different - what appeals to one player will not appeal to another. For example I've been playing this game for 2 months now, and I have yet to shoot my blaster at another player character. PvP is intensely boring to me, but put me in a bar - even a pretend game bar with no booze -and I'm as happy as can be just chatting with other players.

I haven't danced in the cantinas for a while now, but while I was leveling up, and when I used to dance there regularlyI wastoobusy toget bored.
The button-pushing was really quite coincidental. Most of the time I was chatting with the group, or holding several /tell conversations (to friends and strangers) or trying out new moves, or trying to keep up with thanking my healer or last tipper, or trying to make sure I'd welcomed every newcomer and said goodbye to all those who were leaving. Yes, most of it was 'chat-room with pictures' stuff...but it was darned hard work a lot of the time! The closest analogy I can think of is that it was like manning a busy switch-board, trying to keep all the lines of communication open and make sure you don't miss anything. It was also quite like juggling plates, I guess
. There was a great deal of satisfaction to be had from keeping up with it all.
I think it's a misconception that dancing is always easy. True, if you don't want to put any effort in, then it can be very very easy...but if if you get more involved with the entertainment side of things then it can take a lot of concentration! (but it's more fun that way
).
[Sadly, the last few times I've been to cantinas to dance, even the busy places I used to frequent have been quite dead. But hopefully this will just be a passing phase].
But I appreciate your point of view explor793, because it would just bore me stupid to do any kind of crafting!

A lot of the time I got to be Group Leader. Now there's a challenge in itself, especially when the group is 15+ members strong. You have to monitor all the time to catch requests to join (among all the other banter that's going on), and if you miss a single one, the people can get annoyed. If the group gets to 20 members you have to turn people away or figure out who to drop in order to fit the new person in. Being GL in Coronet, which often has 15 to20 members in the evening,is a real challenge.

Hehe, me too. When I first got this game I toyed with the doctor profession, but in my opinioncrafting has to be the most boring thing ever invented as a game feature. As a scout, I get more frightened by the prospect of having to craft a camp than I do about the prospect of getting set upon by an outraged Humbaba.
