I quit playing about 8 months ago 'cause it just got so boring. I was a master dancer mostly, but had quite a few other skills, too.
I've been thinking of coming back......
1. is there hope for the entertainer profession? is it fun at all anymore?
2. are the afker's still making a huge nuisance of themselves?
3. is getting exp any different than it was before? especially entertainer exp....
4. what's the deal with afk buffers?
1. Depends on your playstyle. If you want to play and part of your reason for playing is because you want to interact with non-entertainers, and you want to have a place in the SWG universe and it's economy, then no...there is no hope and it's not fun. We have been made obsolete by afk'ers and buffbots. And, the devs have not said one word about it, about what they're doing about, if they're doing anything about it, or if they even consider buffbots to be a problem. In fact, a CSR gave a badge to a buffbot. So, even though some individuals may still hold out hope, there has been absolutely no indication whatsoever from the powers that be that we actually should be holding onto that hope.
On the other hand, if you're the type of players who doesn't mind any of this and simply just wants to have fun with other entertainers, there are a lot of opportunities if you find other entertainers and find yourself a niche. There are several guilds, cities, bands, and groups interspersed amongst the servers who congregate together, RP, Socialize, and generally have a blast. So, if that is more your playstyle, then yes, it's fun, and there's hope.
2. Absolutely, and in fact, I'd bet you my bank account that it's much worse now than when you left and has grown exponentially, especially because of buffbots, and the taking away of any viable means for us to make a decent living or have any respect from the non-entertainer community at all. While the end of the hologrind will do absolutely nothing to curb the use of buffbots, I am hopeful, however, that there will be less afk because presumably, about 99% of the people in the Cantinas right now are hologrinders. When they're gone, the only people that will be there afk are buffbots, aspiring buffbots, and those who just want to grind through the profession and "play" when they become Masters. Frankly, I don't really have a problem with that last group so long as they're not spamming. And, I do think in two months or so when Publish 10 comes out it's going to be better, but it is not going to solve our biggest issue to date, which is the buffbot.
3. I do think entertainer experience is different. The mechanics of it are not different, however, earning it is more difficult than ever. The combat players in this game have become experts at what they do, and I don't begrudge them that. However, for the most part there is less wound healing and battle fatigue healing that is needed now than ever before due to armor and buffs. People also don't PvP as often either, which makes their need for these types of healing less. Most of the combat is now PvE, though there are certainly some diehard PvP'ers just like there are still some diehard entertainers. But, overall, getting that healing experience is a pain, and many of us, at one point or another have had to resort to getting a combat medic or at the very least being in a group that has used the services of a combat medic to mind disease everyone so that we don't have to spend an entire month, 10 hours a day, dancing in a Cantina to *finally* get the entertainer experience that we need to become a Master. I remember the first time I became a Master Dancer on Kettemoor, I achieved the healing experience that I needed *long* before I got the dancing experience that I needed. The second time I mastered Dancer on Tarquinas, I actually not only got all the dancing experience, but I literally capped out at that extra 900K dancing experience before I even got *one* box of healing experience in the Dancing tree. It was harsh. I finally gave up and said, "yeah, get me in that group with the combat medic, because I just can't take it anymore."
4. As others have said, a large number of people and guilds have forked over an extra $15 a month for the sole purposes of levelling up a dancing avatar that they stick in their cantinas and have a recursive macro that joins any group that asks it to join and buffs them for free. They're there 24/7. IMO, it's the number 1 issue facing us, and damaging our economic viability within the game.

Great post FlawedDiamond! You've summed up my viewpoint perfectly! This game used to be fun, now for a myriad of reasons it's just a headache. I won't be renewing my subscription this month.
