Thread: Ideas for male dancers out there?

On the clothes - I've been very happy with my lined workshirt and worker's pants. Despite the names, they're really just a casual looking shirt and slacks that complement each other well. The shirt is looted, so the colors are in the "can't tailor this color" line so that helps also.

While I don't think this is really the advice you were looking for, I also get a lot of mileage out of my Tusken Raider outfit when I'm in the mood for some fun. Bust out the shimmies and shakes and pretend it's a ritual hunting dance. Be sure and give appropriate Tusken language narration, with appropriate "translation". I nearly always get a good response to it. (Though I do use it infrequently just to avoid it getting old.)

As for Sskar's questions, those would probably be best answered in the Musician forum. Some more information would be in order, like your skill level and the instruments you use, where you're playing, what you're wearing, etc...

Best advice I can give you would be to work up some tunes and not just play randomly. Listen closely to the music flourishes. Some are openers, some are closers, some "lead" to the next. Add in a startmusic and a stopmusic and you can create a complete tune with a beginning, middle, and end. Customers respond very favorably to real music as opposed to random bleating. Change tunes frequently, even if it means that you're not always getting the max experience. If you're with a partner then make sure that you're using complementary instruments. Mandovial is a great instrument but it's not the be-all, end-all. (It DOES make starwars1 into something worth hearing again, though. hehe)

This is getting way off topic, but I'll give you one example that I get a lot of good response with - Starwars2, slitherhorn (works well for the fizzz also):

/startmusic starwars2, rest, rest, f2,f2,f4,f4,f3,f5,f8,f6,f7,f1,rest,rest,f2,f2,f4,f4,f3,f5,f8,f6,f7,f1,rest, /stopmusic

Hit two flourishes, wait for the first to finish completely, then hit the next two. On the second pass, try reversing f3 and f5 or doubling f3. This is why I don't macro. I prefer to improv here and there to keep the tunes fresh.

If you really want to pursue this, ask around the musician forum. While many of the dancers here are accomplished musicians as well, you'll find more like-minded folks over there.

My current outfit is an infiltration suit with matching work boots, link-chain gloves, and a decorative belt. I also switch to an Administrators robe with the same items as well, which looks good.

I recently found guys can wear the Short Wrap skirt....off to find someone who sells them on Naritus! LoL.

This is a tough question actually. As far as tips go, if I'm wanting to make sure I get them I'll run entertainer missions. Playing in less populated areas certainly helps. Male entertainers have a couple of disadvantages going for them. The first is, even in the real world only two groups of people tip male dancers 1)women 2)gay men. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the number of men playing SWG is substantially higher than the number of women and I have yet to find a gay cantina. This creates a challenge for male dancers. Also, there's plenty of skimply or exotic clothing for women in the game, but none designed for guys. (To mydisapointement I can't even wear a corsett to perform the Floor Show from "Rocky Horror"!!) We're just not given as much to work with so we'll have to make the best of it.

Something else to keep in mind, anyone can flourish, but the truth is that some entertainers are more entertaining that others. Give it your all. Be creative. Stand out and engage your audience. You're an entertainer for pete's sake. Put on a show!

Well a bit of an update on this.. I took up tailoring, and discovered it was the best thing for me to do. There isn't much selection, but being able to make it myself I've been able to come up with some creative stuff, even with only being up to Domestic Arts 3. I have two "street clothes" outfits, one formal looking, and something I managed to put together involving shorts that actually looks good.

I still don't get great tips, but I have had a few good nights. One time was when I was practicing crafting, made a whole load of fireworks (Literally a load, over 100 fireworks) and set them all off outside the cantina while the band played on the street.

The best source of tips I've found is the women in the cantina. There are lots there usually. Specifically the other dancers.

Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends

This is true, but think about it. Lets suppose that the ratio is4 men per woman. (80% male audience). And now think about your cantina. Its at least 4 women per 1 man. So lets have 5 entertainers, and5 people in the audience. 4 out of the 5 entertainers will be female. 4 out of the 5 audience will be male. Which means 4 men tip the 4 women (a 1 to1 ratio). And the one women in the audience should be tipping the 1 male dancer (a 1 to 1 ratio).

Yeah, well, now you know why I cannot solve logic puzzles. The truth is that 80% audience is male, so with 4 females in the cantina, you'd have to have 20 people in the audience to get your first female audience member. Which means that the women have about 5 times more people watching than men do. And can expect about 5 times as much in tips. Which is about what I see.
