Thread: Suggestions on what should be done and/or added. Comments? Your own ideas?
Sinda,
That is exactly the type of content that I meant. I feel as though it is encumbant on the the developers to do one of two things. Make such content as they include accessible to non-combat professions or make give non-combat professions a meaningful way to participate in the combat content. Anything else is shortchanging the profession. Unfortunately they cannot even seem to make vendors, factories and harvesters work. So I do not think I will hold my breath.
Beery, I do not think that money is key. Sure being able to earn more as a master dancer would be lovely but it is not going to make being a dancer more interesting if you have more money. I really think that there are only two possibilites. Either mastering dance has to unlock new content or it has to yield skills that let you enjoy the content (alll combat oriented) that is there. Do not mean to sound like a broken record but I just do not see that things would get better from money alone. Let me give a few examples of things that could be added that would do that (all off the top of my head);
1. Allowing master dancers and musicians to heal battle fatigue in camp. The plus is that it would provide a real reason to bring a high level entertainer along on hunts. The negative is that it would really hurt those who are still leveling up in dance because it would destroy the incentive lots of players have to go to cantinas at all.
2. Give the dance techniques some combat effect. For example let smoke protect a targeted player for10 seconds, let the lighting effects cause a10 sec blind. Let distract cause a very short-term AE effect similar to a stun/intimidation. All of these effects are only available when a dancer is actually dancing so that the dancer actually would need to be out of combat to do them. At least there would be some reason to want the otherwise useless techniques line.
3, Allow dancers to mind heal in combat so long as they can keep dancing. If initiating combat stoppeda dancer from dancing I am not so sure that this would be pretty limited but would certainly beenough for groups to want a dancer along.
In a perfect world I would prefer Sinda's suggestion that the developers create a non-combat means of completing all of the quests in the game. But I think pigs will fly before that happens. And if pigs fly you would have to look up a lot.
I'm quite willing to accept that we will never contribute to combat situations, it's obvious they want to leave us in the cantina. However, as people have posted...there is very limited content that does not involve combat. Tell me how we can participate in teh gallaticcivil war? It's purely combat, their quests involve going out and shooting things. There is absolutely nothing involved that does not involve combat. Delivery missions you might say? Well if that fulfills your immersion needs in swg good for you, but it doesn't contribute anything to the game or the war. Have you ever tried to do the rebel theme park missions? You can't solo them unless you are a certain combat type. Heck, you can't even do 90% of them without being a combat type unless you can have someone do your missions for you while you tag along.
My point is this. We do not contribute anything to the game. yes we contribute to the roleplayers, and we can heal some wounds in a cantina...but the game does not include us. All I want is the devs to find a way to include us in the war, to give us a way to contribute to rebel or imp factions and to give us a chance to interact with the game. At this point we don't.
I too find it very irritating that none of the quests can be performed by non-combatants. As a Master Image Designer/Dancer/Entertainer, I don't have any points left over to put into combat and I really don't want to anyway. But if I want to get into Jabba's palace or do any of the content quests I'm stuck.
Couldn't they check to see if I'm an entertainer and give me non-combat quests instead, I'd really like to participate in the other content of the game ![]()
Thankfully, I planned out, and recently checked a character builder to make sure.
I can master Entertainer(have), Dancer(working on it), I can get up to Master Hairstyling in Image Design, Music Knowledge III in Musician, and two Intermediate skillboxes in Pistoleer, as well as keep my Exploration IV.
So it's not TOO bad really. If you've mastered three out of the four Entertainer professions, you still should have enough to put a few points into Marksman or Brawler, even if it is only for one or two skillboxes. ![]()
"Either mastering dance has to unlock new content or it has to yield skills that let you enjoy the content (alll combat oriented) that is there."
Well if it lets me do combat related stuff, that's useless to me. I didn't become a dancer to engage in combat. Combat is tedious - if I wanted to blow things up and kill people I could play any number of games.
I agree that unlocking content - like dancing in Jabba's palace, would be good, but something has to be done about money too. I can't afford the clothes I need for dancing on a dancer's salary - that needs to change.
