I understand some groups don't mind leaving AFKers in their groups because it helps them gain experience if the group is larger. Many groups won't boot AFKers unless the group is full. I personally don't particularly care if an AFKer leaves the group and goes into the back to work up their skills, but it really bothers me to know that if I'm in the group with them, I'm helping them to succeed.

I don't think it's unreasonable. Some might. The gamer ego is a funny thing.

I'll point out something, though. You're not helping AFKers to succeed by grouping with them. They're going to succeed anyway; it's inevitable. All you can do is prevent them from gaining a little bit faster, and your refusal isn't going to make that big of a dent when you consider the vast amount of Dancing xp you need.

It makes a statement, but it may be a statement that desperate dancers don't want to hear. They know how badly they need the xp to advance. Since they're not dancing AFK, they have to work at it. Thus, they may prefer having four AFK dancers boosting their numbers than a single dissident.

Of course, one can argue that if you sup with the devil, yadda, yadda, then you deserve to have a boring time being grouped with AFKers. Of course, there's no reason that two dancers from different groups cannot have a conversation. Dancer banther provides the atmosphere, after all.

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

I think most people on these boards are too rough on the LAMErs. Expecting everyone to grind away for dozens of hours on end when there is usually no one around to interact with seems a bit drastic.

But to answer your question about not wanting to group with AFK'ers. Do what you like. Don't group with people you know you are going to have an issue with.

How are we being too hard on LAMEers? They are the reason me and alot of people I have spoken to no longer care for dancing in the cantina's. And how will the AFK dancer know if there is even anyone to interact with if they are not there. And if there is lack of interaction that causes you to AFK macro then maybe you need to find a new cantina to dance at.

i fully admit that I macro dance in the cantina on occasion. In the particular Cantina I dance in, its considered the norm. Typically about 1/3 of the entertainers in the Cantina are on Macros. None of the regulars seem to mind.

*sigh* This is a sad, sad statement.

Maybe they haven't said anything directly to you, but maybe they're not confrontive types of people. That still does not alter the way AFK macroing cheapens our profession, builds resentment among other players and makes the rest of us look like twits. I want my profession to be respected. Being associated with people who bot instead of playing the game does NOThelp gainrespect.

That's why so many of us have surrendered our dancer skills or just left the cantinas completely. It's a sad situation that SOE needs to address soon, or else just remove the Dancer profession and substituteNPC dancing bots that aren't really people but can heal BF. It would accomplish the same thing.

If you want to work up your entertainment skills while AFK, then I would suggest doing it out of a cantina and not in a group full of live entertainers.

When people walk into a cantina, I would like them to see a band full of people who are actually entertaining, not just macroing.

In the cantina I was in last night we had a band leader who booted AFKers left and right, and the band was not full. She received some flak from one of them who finally returned, but the rest of the band supported her decision. It was very nice to see, and the only reason I stayed in that cantina.
