Well i have pentium 4 2.8ghz with HT, 2GB DDR PC3200, Radeon x800 XL 256MB RAM and the game runs perfectly except when this happens. I see a large pink dome forming from the floor and my FPS drops right down to 2fps from a solid 30fps. I didnt realise it was colour swirl doing it i thought it was a musician effect as id never caused it myself and it doesnt always happen when others do it.
Catalyst 05.5
I have
4x Anti aliasing
4x Anistropic filtering
Full graphical detail, viewing distance and pixel shader versions.
Only thing i dont run is any shadows at all.

Ok..your system is comparable to mine as far as ability to take load (I'm running AMD & nVidia). What I see when using colorswirl is a pink, blue and white cloud swirling around the targetted player.

Oh and the reason i always thought it was musicians is because it was always the musicians that the pink blob formed around.

I have people ask me not to do it to them in our guild cantina, that it lags them too much.

Well, I found that it only does the pink blob from certain angles. I was facing the person it was used on and saw it as the swirl, but when I had my camera turned around and they were beside or behind my character from my POV, I got the lag-enducing pinkness.

So..Pink Ball-O-Lag..camera angle induced AND happens only when tossing swirl on a Musician? Or were the musicians just at a bad angle?

Doesn't just happen when it's a musican. Happens when you do colorswirl to anyone..dancer, music, or someone in cantina. person has to be almost off your screen..not looking straight at it and it will produce.
we tested this for over 30 mins on Kett in theed cantina on diff angles, people etc.

I've done a few tests earlier today with my alt (I was dual-boxing on the same PC, so slightly low on RAM).
If I did colorswirl and my alt was infront of me, there was no problem, still 30 fps.
If my alt was COMPLETELY behind me, also no problem.
The problems occured when I placed my 3rd person camera INTO the colorswirl. The game then tries to render only parts of it (only those in front of your camera) At least I assume it.
If my camera was inside the swirl my FPS dropped to 1 or 2 till the animation was over. This happens whenever the target stands "close to the border" of your screen or just outside of it.
So as long as the complete or none of the colorswirl has to be rendered there is no problem at all for me.
As soon as the game tries to render it partially (or I don't know what exactly it does), it craps my computer.
I'm pretty sure other effects don't show up at all, if they'd only be seen partially, seems they forgot that with colorswirl.
Oh, and my alt is no musician, so thats not the reason.
It might also cause problems (I assume it will) if you're in first person and someone does Colorswirl on you, but i've not tested that

Musicians just at bad angle.
Just been testing if the person (any) is at the edge of your screen you see lag indusing pink ball.
