Some of us believe in live entertainment, and not the mindless buff bots that give you a 3 minute buff. It is just the way that I am (I prefer sitting on the floor to AFK entertaining). I cannot wait till the hologrinding ends, then we get the cantinas back!
I do not know how long is needed for a full duration buff the way I usually dance, but I know it works with 8 minutes. So go for a coffee or something if you have no patience

You AREN'T playing if you AREN'T present at the keyboard! Playing involves active participation last time I looked it up in the dictionary. This arguement is old . . . come see some ofuslive entertainers sometime and find out what makes us not just different, but more fun!

Well, everyone has their own definition of what playing is. I used to be an entertainer. . . a live one at that. I know all about it.

Let's face it, I have a different play style that the rest of you all. I am a different profession. I have different expectations from those in other professions. What is important to you, really doesn't matter to me sometimes.
Then can I ask you what are you doing here just making more problems? if you don't care, then go somewhere else unless you love beingthe attention whore you're being here.
We want to play, we pay $15 a month to enjoy the game, I wouldn't pay $15 just to be AFK, for me that's just a waste of time.

I'm sorry, but there's no way in heck you're going to convince me that afk is a playstyle. If you're afk, you're not playing. It's really very simple.

I think I have asked for a entertainer buff..hm..about 4 times in my carieer.
I always get offered or asked if I want one..by entertainers I have been talking with and had fun with. I don't care if I spend 10 minutes or 30 minutes in a cantina. I'm here to interact and have fun. I can go hunt without buffs. I dont need "mega xp" to get up to master fast..I dont need to hoard credits...Why the heck should I? I'm not here to "win" the game. you can't win the game..You can't win a MMORPG.
I used to play AO..did you know how many lvl 200 people there who left the game? Because they "won" the game?..they had all the uberloot..they had all the credits they could ever want...But..most of them had grinded their way up..They got bored..they had nothing left to do..in their mind.
Some started a alt..but, due to their "winning mind", they "twinked" their alt, so they again reached 200 fast..with the uberloot..and "won" the game...And they either left or did it again...With as little interaction as possible.
I was in the other crowd..I leveled up at will..even if it meant 1 xp now and 1 xp then...but heck, I had many friends, friends, that could spend hours with me, doing nothing but have fun..without fighting or camping uberloot drops. We had people who were dancer(not a profession..emote only)..Who spent days on working out dancing macros and even "song" macros. We had waitresses..who spent their time in the bars, getting drinks to the patrons..drinks that were pure RP items..with no other usage than making it look like you held a bottle or beercan in your hand. And guess what? those waitresses and dancers and singers..they could earn more in tip per night than the most uberest grinder.
We almost had that..we were so close, to have a active cantina life in SWG. Where entering a cantina, were an experience, where you could look forward to rest in a cantina...But the AFK'ers..the hologrinders....ruined that. They pushed the active tainers out in the street, filling up the cantinas with "heal me plz, tip me plz, I'm not here plz" AFK'ers....Making cantinas nothing more than a busstop..you go there, but heck if you like standing there waiting.
We can only hope for the future, once the hologrind ends, that cantinas once again will fill up with life. And that this game does not turn into a game where only "grinders" have a place.
Hrmpf..long winded post..and in the dancers forum...jeez..I'm a friggin combatant! someone toss me out of here before I start flirting with the dancers!

May I laugh once more about the crazy remarks I am getting from some people? I already explained before, perhaps in another thread why I am here reading about your issues. I can see that there is a problem with your profession so I came here to check it out. I used to be an entertainer when the game first came out... I'm just checking in to see what all the fuss was about and add my two cents ... which have added up to a dollar now.
I will try to get buffed by a real person. But I think they need to advertise that they give good buffs too. I tip too. I will also get my battle fatigue healed by a novice entertainer so that they get XP. I don't need wound points healed... I do that myself. Honestly, if I didn't have to get BF healed, I would never go to the cantina. It isn't my playing style. Once the hologrind is over then I will tip the novice entertainers so that I know I am tipping someone who actually plays that profession for a reason other than grinding it.
Yes, there are issues with your profession. I will do what I can to get buffed by real people... but, if I can't, then what choice do I have other than getting buffed by someone who is AFK.
Another thing....
To me, even if I am not at the keyboard, my character can still play. There is a reason there are macros.
Also, I don't pay 15 dollars a month. I pay less. Fifteen dollars is nothing in todays economy anyway.

Ha Ha Ha Ha.... Some people above should take their own advice. I read a few posts above and see hypocrtitcal statements. If an entertainer choses to be an AFK buffer, then let them. That is where they want to take their profession. If you want to socialize, then do that too. You get on other people's case for not playing the game the way YOU want them to. I call that selfish and selfcentered.Maybe egotistical too! Perhaps there are those who don't like the style of play the rest of you use. I certainly don't want to be an entertainer. I just want my buffs. Okay. That is what a lot of combat professions need: A no frills solution to getting buffs. Where do they get that? From AFK buffers. Wouldn't it be so annoying if there weren't AFK buffers? Every dancer and musician would be bothered by tons of players looking for buffs. The question you would hear most: Are you buffing? Can I get a buff?. Over and over again. Is that what you want entertainers? . . . to be bothered for buffs all the time? If so, then advertise that you are buffing, just like the doctors advertise that they are buffing. I think that the entertainers can take a lesson from the doctors in fact... Different doctors have different playing styles. Some buff all day long, others make the buff packs all day long and then sell them to the buffing doctors. Other doctors spend their time in the medical center. They learn to co-exist with other doctors with differing styles of play. Why can't the entertainers get along with each other. So what if someone wants to be an AFK dancer. That is their style of play. Let's not forget that this game changes all the time too. People wanted to just dance and become Master entertainers just for the holocron. I wouldn't be surprised if you all were upset about that too!
Let people play the game the way they want to . . . and stop complaining so much. Or, is that what entertainers do all day since they have nothing else to talk about?
I just want to give a shout-out to Lubka on the Bria server. She is the best AFK buffer in the Corenet cantina. I will always tip you for providing a quick and efficient service.

You know, I'd agree with you...if buffing while AFK was "playing" the game.
That, my friend, is a tremendous difference from what you see in the Doctor profession.

Phu, there are parts of this post of yours I can appreciate. Yourassertion that you will try to use live entertainers is hopeful. Try using the search function on your Player interface to find master dancers and musicians (although you probably know that already). I don't know what server you are on, however here on Bria we have a very active entertainer chat group where you can join and usually find someone throughout the day. I believe that several other servers have chats, as well. Ours is ent chat. Both the musician and dancer forums have a stickied list of masters (by server)who are willing to buff, heal and entertain. Just note their names and put them on your ingame friend list.
About the definition of the word "play". Well, you can try to change it to fit your concept all you want, but that doesn't make it so. The fact of the matter is - if you aren't there you aren't "playing". Even the devs agree on this. AFK "playing" was never their intention for allowing the use of macros. However, they let that happen and now that theelephant is in the livingroom they seem unwilling to herd it outside . . . .

I have an announcement to make: I just dropped Master Commando to become an entertainer!!!
Yep, it is true. Believe it or not.
I forgot how much fun it is to dance and stuff.
I will be the unclothed wookie with a bowcaster in hand on the Bria server.
I was the first dancing wookie when this game started I think. It was fun.
