Thread: Why Deny is just another way to say I want more tips

Mivora, read the gigs FAQ thread, either on this forum or the entertainer forum. The text about the children was just there for color. You are supposed to go inside the location where the waypoint is and perform for a while. You can perform anywhere inside the building. There are no specific NPCs to perform for. (I was disappointed by this, but oh well.)

Back to the thread topic, I am in complete agreement with Adara. There are already tools at our disposal to deal with rude people:

1. /addignore name. Problem solved. And the faster the idiot is healed the faster he's potentially out the door and away from you.

2. Social pressure. When people come into our cantina and act like jerks, everyone in the band yells at them and guess what? It'sdriven them offin every case I've seen so far, or gotten them to put their pet away, or whatever. Of course there are always exceptions, and that's when you have to remember...

3. You can't control the actions of others, but you can control your reactions to them. This is as true in the game as it is in real life. Stop performing, if need be, or remove yourself from the situation. Maybe you feel like you shouldn't have to do this? Then it's your decision whether you want to engage in a power struggle with a jerk, or just endthe matter altogether. One benefit of ceasing the performance altogether is that the people waiting to be healed will be on your side as well, which adds to the social pressure for the person to stop.

4. If your real concern is guaranteed payment for services rendered, only perform at a private cantina with a cover charge and work out a % cut with the building owner.

I am wondering if the real issue here is what peoples' expectations were for tips. No, I don't have as much cash as some people I know, but I don't have aproblem with that. I am pleased with the amount of money I make in tips. Perhaps if people are wanting to deny services because they don't feel they're getting paid enough, they can either revise their expectations, or 'deny services' entirelyby surrendering their performing skills and go into something more suited to their material tastes.

Seraa,

You wouldn't use it that way but I don't see any way to put in a safeguard that would prevent it from being used that way. You kinda have to assume the worst about people when thinking about stuff like this.

woohoo look at this: was on the dev page, going in today's patch...

Missions: New mission terminals added for Artisan (crafting, and surveying missions), Entertainer (musician and dancer gig missions) and Explorer (hunting missions, and recon) mission types.

Hmmm... I think I preferred getting those kinds of missions from NPC's. I can already walk into the local theater for gig missions or the local artisan guild for survey missions. However, considering the number of press writers and players who think that destroy and deliver are the only missions in the game, I suppose it's a neccesary step. People ought to just talk to the NPC's more often.

Mivora,

Unfortunately, you're right, and that's the main reason that a "control" such as /deny will not get implemented.

What would be far more productive, and effective, would be quick in-game responses by CSRs to harrassment reports.

Honestly anyone who uses deny to blackmail money out of people will find that it will blow up in there face. If someone did that to me, I'd tip everyone but him/her. I like deny b/c honestly I don't want someone abusing the dancers to benefit from them. CSRs aren't fast enough nor will they ever be. I also report every incidence and they do ban for it, depending on what is said.
