I have too many friends in the game to quit it.
I might quit the dancer class if I decided it wasn't worth the skill pts to keep it, but I can't see quitting the game, and losing out on all the friends and fun I have in it.
We just started up a band/dance troupe based out of my guild's town last night and that will hopefully be quite fun. That's the sort of thing I think you have to do in a MMORPG to really get the most of it. Automated/dev-built stuff will only get you so far. Then you, as a player, have to take over and get the game to reach the next level.
Pickles, I'd rather see you change classes and hang in there with us because I think having people like you around -- good players, good gamers -- is good for the game as a whole. But I fully understand if you just can't take it anymore. Sometimes I feel like that too.
The fun part is, I feel like it, most of the time, here on the forums. In game, I'm usually too busy having fun to notice. The ONE thing that frustrates me is the inability to gain healing XP without "camping" the hot spots, which means I can't get master dancer, since I refuse to "camp" healing XP (I'm a RPer and it's just not in character to do that). I think we all need to be careful not to let the forums get us down. This is where we come for theoretical debate and to get our SWG "fix" when we can't actually play the game for whatever reason. But it is not the same as what goes on in game, and I have found that mostly, what goes on in game is a lot less frustrating than what goes on in the forum.
I'd actually recommend taking a break from he FORUM for a while before giving up on the game. But it depends on how similar to my in-game experience, yours is. And of course, everyone has a different threshold of tolerance for things.

Just remember when you boil it all down, games are about one thing and one thing only: HAVING FUN.
The rule of thumb then is simply this... If you are having fun, keep it up. If you are not having fun, don't.
If you don't find the game fun any more, in any profession, on any server, then quitting is the right choice.
If you still find the game fun but you want to quit to make a statement, I respect the decision, but I submit that you may not be maximizing your amount of fun.
The question is: does the game provide you with $15/month worth of fun, enjoyment, and entertainment. This $15/month should be "profit" fun, above any grief or frustration you may receive for various reasons (shuttle wait times, client crashes, whatever).
My recommendation here is to make sure you are having the most fun you can during your free time. If you have found ways that are better at doing that than SWG, then by all means. But I for one would not force myself to stop doing something I enjoy just to make a moral statement about a game. I'd rather just have fun.
Again, how you balance things is up to you. But reading between the lines of what you have said, it seems like you are still having fun but you feel ethically bound, in a sense, to cancel your account in protest. And while I very much agree with the reasons for wanting to protest, I am not sure I would agree with stopping something I enjoy doing very much, just to make a point.
But of course, I am not being objective here. I have ulterior motives. The first and foremost is I hate to see you leave the game, bud. You're a sight for sore eyes on this forum. But I guess I am just being selfish. You have to do what is best for you.
Just make sure you are MAXIMIZING YOUR FUN AND ENJOYMENT above all else. That is the point of a game -- this game, and every other one out there.

Hey Jav,
I can't say the NPC cantinas on Starsider are any better than what's happening on Bria. But, you and Shi are would be welcome on Starsider. I'm a member of a player city with a cantina in need of management, as the person who placed it has since moved on.
Anyway, whatever you decide, I wish you the best.

I'm sorry to see you go. But whoever said it was was probably right: if it's not fun, there is no reason to continue. I hope you have fun in another game and I hope you will come back some time in the future and find a game that is fun to play.
Have fun, whereever you go ![]()

Well that just cut the list of entertainers from the old days that i still know squarely in half.Only trubakka and sultrina remain. If any event could cause me to loose all hope for entertaining id say this on has done it. And to be honestI cant blame you two,I no longerthink the atmosphere of old coronet cantina is coming back anytime soon.

Well this is such sad news...another person who I don't know but thru this forum, someone who had a strong voice and opinion has given up hope
I too have toyed with my decision to continue with my chosen profession. When I joined my guild we were primarily dancers, musicians and artisans with some combat skills and a few combat folks, now I am one of two female master dancers left, our only male master dancer left is going to be surrendering his skills soon and no master musicians. Even most of the artisans have taken up arms, 80% of them because of that damned blue box. Ilong for the happy days when the Kadaara cantina was a hot spot with many dancers and musicians none afk would group daily or nightly, many friendships formed, even inspired a few people to take up the entertainment professions....alas those days are gone.
I intend to keep my profession but it gets harder every day. I came to this game specifically because of the notion that I wouldn'thave to be a power gamer toenjoy playing.
Please dev's hear our cries, beforeour profession becomes merely a notation.....Oh yeah I remember when you could play a dancer or a musician now it's only npc tho....
*hugs to all my brothers and sisters*

Chessack, if I was having a blast in the game we wouldn't even be having this conversation. My fun has been heavily diminished by everything that's happened. Once it was a party every night. Now it's me and maybe one or two other people hanging around in a dead room 90% of the time. It's safe to say I'm not having nearly as much fun as I used to, and the problem is I don't think they will ever try to change it back.
