Thread: Ravenmist: Faction-Limited Registration In Player Cantinas, A BAD Idea

Tiaga--

I don't think anyone is saying that there should not be an OPTION to factionally register a cantina. But we are saying it should not be required and immutable after placement. The case of the owner being covert rebel on placement but now neutral and unable to register in a cantina she owns should be self-evidently ridiculous.

ALL registration does is turn on the little light on the ctrl-v world map so people know the cantina is MANNED. That's it... just manned. There is absolutely no reason why this function needs to be faction-based.

It's faction based because the structure is faction based. Just like cloning is faction based. I still say leave it in but give people the one way option of making a structure neutral, or maybe only allowing change once a week. Do you disagree that my idea would solve all the problems you're having?

Allowing it to change after placement would fix many things.

Think of it this way. You are COVERT rebel. You roleplay as a covert.. You have no desire for OVERT Imperials to know you are a COVERT rebel. They can easily find out that you are COVERT by trying to register in your cantina.

A covert-owned cantina should, to all appearances, act as if it were owned by a neutral character, since coverts are neutral to the casual observer. I can totally see an OVERT owner having an OVERT place, but I still am not clear on why you can't register at it. Not giving faction buffs is one thing, and obvious (if I am not a rebel I can't give a rebel a faction buff). But not being able to turn on the light that says, "Someone is in the cantina" should not be faction based. It's a presence-absence thing.

If you are going to make it so a neutral can't register in a rebel location, then a neutral shouldn't be able to HEAL a rebel either. Yet as a dancer I can heal anyone. If I can heal you, I should be able to register so you can see that I am there and get healing when you need it.

Okay, good job everyone with the arguements and ideas. I'll bring all of them to the Dev and try to find out what he thinks. Both sides will be presented as well as both ideas to fix the problem. After reading your arguements I'd say at the very least the option to remove faction alignment should be added.

I think its being dealt with in our ten questions, along with other issues concerning registration.

I agree.

Neutral means just that- neutral. They should be allowed almost anywhere (except where there would be signs like 'employees only past this point') Should be allowed to trade with anyone etc. Neutral means that- it's not a faction. Han Solo would have been considered neutral at the begining of episode 4. He could work with and for anyone who wasn't inclined to kill him, ya?

I'm annoyed with the "I'm a rebel- but covert. I get a TEF and I can not go into my own cantina, or home even though it is also rebel/ neutral."

Now granted, I can see why problems may occur if the player is overt...but covert? For /registration? This totally destroys any concept of covertness. I mean, how in the galaxy is the world map a faction limited issue, ESPECIALLY when I cannot tell from the world map what is Rebel or Imperial. Thus, you can have emminently qualified personale in the cantina, but nobody will know one is there because of this silly constraint.
