Of course, my second char has two professions I'll never give up, that's Dancer and ID, even thinking about giving up smuggler or pistoleer (I would give up TKA if it wasn't the only one of those three that really works!) to get musician again... Entertaining is just the only thing in this game that's still fun every time you log on even after a year of playing, at least for me.

I started dancing purely for the sake of dancing
Its fun. I enjoy dancing, talking with my friends, talking with people who come in for healing, etc.
I view healing and buffs just as additional perks. I don't think I have ever once charged or asked anything for a buff. Now, I'm in a lucky situation regarding that since I play on TC so I can have 3 alts. That way I can entertain with one character and make money with another.
Although, outside of my clothes shopping habit <.< , I could live without credits and be just as happy

I started dancing around 6 months ago, for a holo I am ashamed to admit
Never saw myself as a dancer or entertainer but I can honestly say that its one of two professions that I absolutely love to bits, the other being Swordsman! (I've done 10 I think) Even dropped it at one stage to get skill points to do something I didn't like, and almost cried giving it up - hated that evening ... well I am back on the dancer trail and have done novice dancer already - so the comeback is on!
As for the AFK buffbots, I can understand why people go to the AFK Master Dancers instead of the at-the-keyboard Novice Dancers - BF heals quicker I guess. I know this doesn't really help, but a little plan could be to group with a non-AFK master entertainer/dancer/musician and any healing xp they get you will get also! I am lucky enough to know a dancer or two on Eclipse that groups with me so I can get healing XP, so maybe just chat with one or two and I'm sure you'll be able to group with them and get the XP that you're missing =)

I love being a dancer.. I have been on Master Dancer on Corbantis since September of 2003, so over a year. At the time I mastered there were only a handful of Master Dancers on the server. I doubt any of the others are there or are dancers anymore. At least I havent seen many of the ones I grouped with as we chatted and enjoyed each others company as we danced.
13 months later I am still a Master Dancer. I have never given this up though I have tried other things. My guild learned how a dancer was useful in PvP and I was able to actively participate with them on PvP outings. I danced in NPC cantinas, then in my very busy Player City cantina.
And I intend to still dance.
Sadly with theinflux of buff bots, those that choose to be dancers have beendevalued. It is not a money making profession though I am fortunate that many know me and I have been asked to work with groups of Jedi or those going to DWB or Geocaves to buff and heal and am generously compensated. My guild also takes care of seeing that I do not lack for money or items.
Improving our abilities is difficult too. Mind Enhance tapes on out server are sold for outrageous amounts that a character who main focus is dancing cannot afford in any way shape or form. Those are snapped up by guilds for their buff bots often going for several million credits.
What is ironic is that unlike most skill tapes that benefit the player purchasing them for thier skills the Mind enhance and even the dancer heal tapes do not benefit the dancer at all since we are unable to buff ourselves. so for example in a recent auction I would have paid 20 million credits for a +14 mind enhance tape that only benefits those who utlize me for buffs.. and maybe would tip me 2000 credits.
Despite all the negatives, I enjoy dancing, organizing shows, group routines, and just chatting as I buff and heal people. I dont do it for money, or prestige or loot, but out of love for the profession and for my communtiy.
I will always dance.

I dance for the enjoyment of it. First profession i mastered when I got SWG over a year ago. I've done dancer with every character I've created. I tried playing a character who did not dance..and just could not do it hehe.
The first thing I can remember from being a dancer on Kauri was dancing in the Tyrena Cantina...I believe by myself..maybe a few people milling about and this guy comes crawling in (literally) with unbelievable wounds. He gasped dramatically when he saw a dancer in there...he was crawling in whispering someone help me..help me..We chatted some while he layed on the ground healing up. He tipped me 10k and that was my first tip..probably the one i will always remember.
I also just like being in the cantina...never know who you'll meet or see come in there..as much as i dislike the afk bots..the place is still lively. silly as it is I love to dance by Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes in the cantina. Im surprised more to come to listen to them or anything. they play good music
due to being busy with college and this thing called life i had to take a few months break from SWG. When I came back it was quite the shock I'd never seen so many people there but not there. I lovingly call the afk dancers zombies or ghosts now. Often calling the Coronet Cantina the ghost cantina....when i dance in there.
I leveled up to master dancer in this very foreign world of afk bots. Got to master not going afk once. the addignore command for the spammers is my new best friend
1 of the many reasons I wont dance afk is..I'm paying for a game to play not to have my character dance around while im out.
I also think its pretty rude especially when they keep asking for tips..tips for what..they arent even there.
But the people who do come in and look for atk dancers brighten my dismal world of afk dancers...thanks to the ATK appreciaters out there

Well, the truth is, the only *reason* to dance is because you like it. It certainly gives no benefits whatsoever. All of our economic benefits are taken by buffbots. We are no longer of use to the community. And, the personal benefits are sub par, at best. Yes, we can heal ourselves, but we can't buff ourselves, we can't use all of our skills on ourselves. So, basically, we have no outward benefit and no inward benefit. So, I think most of us will agree that we dance because we love dancing. There's absolutely no other reason to be a dancer at this point. And, if I ever dropped dancer, it would be because I've dropped the game. And, yeah, I've certainly been tempted.

I have only been playing for about a month, have a couple toons on various servers. My female dancer on Eclipse is probably my fave. Just got Master Dancer last week, love exotic4, also Mastering Artisan and just got Novice Tailor, to make myself and fellow entertainers new clothes(no charge!) Cantinas are like live-action chat rooms. Always something going on, nice break from the monotiny of a novice marksman killing rill outside Mos Eisley. Long live the dancers and entertainers!
