Thread: An Invitation to the Dance . . .a personal view

Hiya again,

If you’ve read thru all my babbling you’re either a masochist or a friend.

Upon reviewing this thread I find it could also have had the subtitle “SWG an etiquette primer”. (Lei files that thought away for future use. . . “Lei’s Guide to Manners and Etiquette in the Star Wars Galaxy” . . . ROFL)

Before I close a couple quick random thoughts (aren’t they all)

Use the “Ent” channel. You may or may not have this chat channel in your galaxy. We on Bria have a channel going pretty much 24/7 called “Ent”. The first entertainer to log on in the morning starts it. (It is there all the time now) Than after that whenever an Ent logs on they just have to type

/chat join chat.ent (updated for new chat channels Bria for some ungodly reason has multiple Ent chats) Please note this command has again changed and this might not be the appropriate syntax I think its

/chatroom join chat.ent

but with the chatrooms sticking now you only have to join it once.

It’s a great way to keep on top of things like:

  • what’s going on currently

  • impromptu parties

  • planning events

  • find someone to train or buff you

  • relax, talk to friends and have a good time. (you should really join just to listen to Doasa, “king of the MTs” (you know we love you Doasa! )

Your galaxy may have a slightly different name for it ask around and check it out, you’ll be glad you did.

A little plug here for the wonderful site started by Tiaga. If you haven’t done so already swing by and check it out it’s a place for ALL Ents to get together and share hints, tips, ideas or just about anything else. It’s in wiki format so everyone can put their “2 credits” in. You can find it at:

http://www.swgentertainer.com/GalaxiesVariety/HomePage

Like I stated at the beginning of this thread I had no grand design or master plan. What I wanted to impart were some of the tips and customs that I had learned over the course of my “career”. I hope there was an item or tip that was of interest to you. If there was then I was successful in my task, if not I need to work harder.

I would like to thank everyone for their encouragement and feedback. I received numerous PM’s, /tells, and in-game comments as well as the posts in this forum. They were all positive and motivating and I thank you for them. ***group hug***

I know there are things I wanted to include when I started but have somehow slipped through the cracks in my brain. If /when I remember them or if something else comes to mind I may post an addendum or two if needed. Once again thank you for reading and your support.

***BIG HUGS***

Lei

Thanx Kirah, Shail, Panthu!

As for putting it on the SWG Ent site, Kirah, maybe. It would need just a tad of tweaking so it would flo more smoothly unlike yours truly.

Thanx again!

A small note that I find helpful for the buffing is /alarmaddin Hour minutes message aka /alarmaddin 0 05 Buff Done

Very nice read though. Good reminders even for someone that has been entertaining for a while. You can start to forget some of these things when you hang around spamming afkers too much.

A quick note here.

I will be editing this thread and placing it on the SWGEntertainers site with in the next day or two. I will endeavor to make it a bit more coherent.

The thread is now on www.swgentertainer.com all nicely wikified (Lei wonders if that actually a word.)

Leivi dear,

This was a fine introduction to the mechanics of the trade. But I think you would agree that the things mentioned here are but the beginning of the study of our profession, and certainly not the end. Ours is a profession rich in technique. And it is so rich, not because of anything the mechanics can give us, but because of what we can do with those things we have at our disposal. Ultimately however, it is the person who plays the dancer him or herself who must combine the tools we have in such a way as to make our performance unique, special, and valuable to others who view it. Easy? Far from. Its the hardest challenge in the game, and it takes weeks and months to perfect it. In fact, you never do quite perfect it, and there is alwaysroom to refine your technique: be itthe raw mechanics of dancing itself, or those things that surround our dancing. And I can assure that anybody who reads and understands these things that are posted will have a good startingknowledge of how we as dancers interact with the game world.

Thanx for reading my little post Sirii, and please its Lei. You are so very true it is only an introduction, "an invitation" as Isay to the whole world of dance. I've been dancing since October (Lei's entire life) and I still learn new things all the time. As I've said before this is one profession where getting your Masters doesnt automatically make you an expert. As we each learn our mechanics we in turn apply them to the art. Each persons application will be different and and as such styles will vary immensely. Art is a very personal matter (trust me on this) and as long asone can say "I'm better today than I was yesterday"one hashad a successful day. In the endthe only person we have to be better than is ourself. Lets all make the Entertainers world rich with color and texture. Here is to diversity.

I continue to be amazed on the feedback Istill get from this thread. Just the other day I received an email out of the blue from someone who had read and appreciated the thread and wanted to make a trip out to see us. (Lei feels all warm andfuzzy inside.) Kirah jokingly called me something like "the Entertainers Goodwill Ambassador to Bria". We really do love all of you coming here.

What I wish however is that this comaraderie we have on Bria was entrenched on every server. Because the only way I thinkthe Ent profswill survive as a whole is if the base is strong from galaxy to galaxy. I wish I were two people (**insert your own joke here**) and i could play on multiple servers. Oh well lets keep dancing and playing and entertaining no matter where we are.

I also have a few more bits to add to this thread. . . when I'm not pressured by Darth Wurk.

IF any one still reads this thread and since I don't want to start a new one . .

If you don't already know, there is usually a gypsy party going on every Thursday night at the current gypsy camp where ever itmay be. This occurs on Bria, just hop on, pop intochat.ent and give a holler for current location.

/chatroom join chat.ent Thanx Doasa
