Well, actually, the Non-Master buff percents are:

  1. Novice: 10%

  2. Tech 1: 20%

  3. Tech 2: 30%

  4. Tech 3: 50%

  5. Tech 4: 75%

So you couldn't have given him a 5% buff unless you had something that would reduce your buff strength (does such a thing actually exist?)... it would have been funny anyway and his own fault too.

You can do it with skill atachments.

The numbers you quoted are themax values reachable at that tier, but actual quality of your buff can be influenced. Buff duration is determined by how long you perform (well, to be precise actually by how long your customer watches/listens), and buff quality (i.e. percentage increase) mostly by how many flourishes you do in that time.

So all Coreena would have had to do to give out a crappy buff was not flourish (or maybe do one or two flo's in total if she's feeling generous ).
(edited for anti-bs control )

And to toss in my 5cr on the original question, it's a sad fact that the current generation of players (say, those who started the game within the last 9-12 months) has to a large partbeen educated (maybe brain-washed would be a better term) by buffbots when it comes to mind buffs. Many people don't know that you don't have to be grouped to receive a buff. And with most buffbots using auto-join, for those peeps it's natural just to fire off an invite to an entertainer when they want a buff.
But some, maybe even most of them can be re-educated. I found that in many casesI couldjust explain to them the error of their ways and let them know that I'm perfectly willing to buff them if they just ask nicely. More often than not they will do exactly that.

However, when they see someone who's clearly there and don't even bother to talk to that person before /inviting, that's still very bad manners. Depending on your mood, you might want to ask them what it is they want, but if they insist on treating you like a commodity instead of a person, it's perfectly justified to just ignore them. I wouldn't even bother ticking them off by giving a bad buff, simply because I don't want to put up with the ensuing hate /tells, but that's just me

When I was trying to get the people to watch me for my dancer mission (which I FINALLY got, I now have Theatrical, YAY!) I parked Ava by the Coronet starport ticket collector overnight.I knew people would try to group her to get a buff... so my macro went something like this?

/pause 5;

/g Hello there! Oh, you'd like a buff, wouldn't you? Make sure you're watching me!

/pause 30;

/g Oh, THAT'S RIGHT. You can't buff in a starport, and I'm just here to finish my entertainer quest! *snicker*

/disband

I got some interesting responses.

Now that is an evil, treacherous and completely wicked way of getting people to watch you.

Needless to say, I love it

I was able to get my watches just by dancing in Theed as normal. I don't think I even mentioned that I was doing the quest... Then again, I tend to be more of a door watcher than most when I am actively dancing for more than just Sakura haha!

Yeah, when you're in a cantina regularly, you absolutely don't have to spam for your listeners, they'll come eventually. All it needs is patience. That's how I did it recently on my Bria character - just played in Theed as usual, never told anyone about it (apart from mentioning in grpchat once or twice, but then only as response to other asking for watchers for their quest), and still got them just fine. Was actually a problem noticing when that part was complete, because the system messages are easy to miss in the cantina spam (I also suspect they don't pop up every time, but that may be just me).

I used the the Chat Color option to color the messages green, so they're easier to find in the spam
