Thread: Girls, does it ever bother you?

NO! Don't do that! A young man may find it appropriate to share too much information when asked a question like that.

My advise - don't let the thoughtlessness of others get to you . . . So many of these players are either kids or young men who don't understand that female players might not be here to find their live mate or that, even in our forward-thinking society, women rightfully feel uncomfortable when a guy gets in her face. They lack or are unwilling to adopt a proper attitude toward their fellow "female" characters - and they could have found themselves in an unexpected relationship with a toon that ended up being a guy on the other end.
I have rarely been asked my gender in SWG. I did, however, get accosted in the 'game that shall not be named' a couple of weeks ago by some kid who was "looking for a girl with the same interests" as his. He was so endearing about it, too - standing on my toes, throwing me kisses, tickling me, huggingme, flexing his muscles- all unsolicited or wanted. All I was doing was waitingnear the grif master for Roho to arrive. I informed him (politely) that I do not share personal information ingame. After a couple minutes he let it go - perhaps figuring I must be a guy on the other side of the monitor . . . I found myself tempted to tell him(considering the maturity level he was displaying) that I was probably about the same age as his mother . . . . Wouldn't that have made his day!
I share a male Bothan toon (master ent/master dancer/master musician) with a friend, and have found that I have more fun playing as an entertainer using him than when I wasdancing withmy main toon (female Twi). It was especially fun one night when some low life came in and started to /lick all the female dancers. I used that emote on him, and he began to freak when he saw it was coming from a male Bothan named Goose. Haven't seen him in the Theed cantina since ![]()
And for those of us ladies who are on the mature side of the age scale, don't be afraid to tell the boys that you're old enough to be their mom. Works like a charm...well, more like a bucket of cold water *heh*.

This hasn't been an issue for me in SWG yet--possibly because I have a face like a tapir.
I can't say that any more. Tonight two completely different people asked if I was a girl in RL. And it totally freaked me out. I probably overreacted, but it felt like such an invasion of my privacy; I froze up and couldn't say anything. It was as if they were going to start stalking me if I said yes.
The first time it was /tell after he left the cantina, so I was able to ignore him and soon forget it, but the second time, the guy was standing right in front of me, and up till then we'd been having a normal conversation. I couldn't keep dancing, even after he apologized and left. It just destroyed any sense of comfort or safety. I even changed into a more modest shirt.
Any advice?
Well, yeah, Ahazi.Eira has gotten an earful when she's asked that question before. O_o (I think he would have become a stalker, if I'd not added him to ignore. The man told me his life story in about 5 minutes, and made it quite clear, several times, that he was no longer married.)

LoL! So I guess they won't feel threatened when I kill them with my new male wookiee. Funny when you are a girl playinga male toon you never get the "Are you a guy IRL"question.

They make a huge deal about this kind of thing in the Bria forums
There are some players that post there and play on Bria that say they are girls... even post pictures of a girl holding a sign up with their forum handle written on it saying "I play SWG" etc..... they call them shims (she/him).....
I think it's really sad : (
Many guys feel threatened by playing a game like this with a female..... they are scared to loose in pvp to them etc..... in other words the guys have no real confidence in themselves, and the only way they can cope with it is to act like the girls are guys.... which makes many girls not want to participate in the forums or not want to say they are girls or worst of all not want to play the game anymore....
I really enjoy playing SWG and other MMOs with females
sorry if you are having trouble with this : /
p.s. my pic is on swg-faces.com under Bria : O : P heheeh

If you can find me in-game on Valcyn (this is a dare to anyone that doesn't know her name already) and figure out who I am there, I'd be surprised.

You'd be surprised. Sometimes it's more obvious than you think.
Out of curiosity... you said that if someone asked you politely out of mere curiosity if you were a RL woman, you'd say yes. Yet you tell us at the end of your post that you are not. Why lie about it if the person has been polite?
Edit: On a side note, I created my entertainer toon as an experiment to test a theroy of mine about the inequality of treatment towards female players. Part of that experiment included making people treat me as woman and making them believe that I was in fact a woman. As time went on, I started spending more time there with her and her ever expanding circle of friends than I was with my Rodian male and his tighter group of friends. I love being both characters and find it hard to leave either one behind in favor of the other. One day, I'll post my my thoughts, feelings, and findings about what started as an experiment and turned into a full blown character I can't live without.
