Thread: Applying the Mind Buff, a Guide to buffing.
Modifier was roughly 50% of total. Duration was 30 minutes.
Hi, I'm new to the game and so of course new to the buffing here. Just got Master Dancer last night and working on musician now. I've done 4 or 5 buffs so far and just went with what I was told. Use /setperform and then have them /stopwatch after 10 min. I did that with my macro doing flo every 8 seconds. Every time they have gotten full buffs.
Now my question is I ran across a guy in a outpost on Dat. He is running a macro that in 6 min he does a full Dancer/Musician buff. I have no idea how he does it as he was afk at the time and I never got a responce. This was a passive buff as it would do a whole group at a time. But would see the message over and over that he was starting to dance and then stopping dance. Starting to play, stop playing. Over and over. So could it be possible he was doing something like, /start /flo /stop /start /flo /stop. like I said I'm completely new and so don't have anyone to test this stuff with. But I did email the guy and got put on his list of people he will auto invite and buff. Took 24 hours from when I emailed him. But the buff did work.

I am almost master Dancer and will be by end of the night. I have just started giving buffs the last 2 days. They have been ranging between 180 2hr all the way up to 870 2.5 hr and have had a few that were around 450 and only lasted 30 minutes. Why the big diff in quality? I am always in a group but the person I am buffing is not in the group. Is this something to do with maybe they were not watching the entire time?
Thanks

I have a quick question but don't have time to read every post so forgive me if this has already been answered. I was wondering when doing a group buff, do you /setperf on one person ( the leader?) while in the group?
So far I've only been giving buffs at 4/3/4/4 Dancer and as low as 1/0/4/3, so the enhancement varied from 75-30%, but duration stayed the same. Of all the ones that I gave doing my spam flourish macro and using exotic2, for atleast 4minutes all buffs seemed to end up lasting for 2 hours from what the customers told me. There was another thread where someone said you needed 150 flourishes to max out the buff duration. Which makes sense if you have 5 flourishes every 8 seconds for 4 minutes. 5/8*240 seconds = 150. This method works very well for me as a human with 1.1k quickness/stamina and only 400 action, as I can just about finish the buff without a heal.

I'm anxious to hear some people's individualactual experiences with these to see how much the group thing interferes. It's my guess that requests for buffs are going to be under one of two circumstances: (1) A very busy cantina with a lot of (hopefully) non-AFK entertainers, in which case the individual /setperform is adequate; or (2) You're the only dancer there, or the group is very small, in which case a large group of players could either be invited to your entertainment group or you could drop and join theirs without much hassle.
None of this, of course, replaces the ideal setup of being able to target and /setperform multiple players at once, but I'm wanting to hear some real experiences in the cantinas and experience it myself before I pass judgement.
Hello Sinda! I hope you eventually passed the torch of group leader this morning. lol. sorry I couldn't stay.
The way I see it, no one should be in a rush to get buffed. After all, it does last a while with no side effects of a full stomach or brain tumor. The buff will take some effect after 2 minutes but will not last long at all. the personal buff takes 8 minutes, flourishes or not. (unless they changed this since I was a previous master a few months ago) The group buff takes 14 minutes, flourishes or not.
When I buffed I was always afraid of stopping because of lost action so I would flourish once and coast the 8 minutes. they always got a full buff, always. And in 8 minutes. If they stopped sooner, it would cut off a bit, like 10 or 15 minutes. The buff ALWAYS doubled the mind no matter how long the duration was.
Oh yes, I also tested the passive buff with the group we had this weekend, since I was dancing I was only able to listen the the musicians and never got more than a 3 minute buff at a time. Apparently we will never be the beneficiary if we also perform.
Now, have you guessed who I am yet? I'll give you a hint, I'm Twi'lek, lol. (ok so that narrows it down 2%)

Ok, after a bit of fenageling, i found the unequip weapon etc post, tried that out, and it worked, so thank you for posting that! for those who dont know. it was this:
Preparation:
Make a macro (i called mine buff) with this in it: /flo 3; /pause 10; /macro buff
Use
1.) have person to be buffed (buffee)stand
2.) have person type /stopwatch (whether watching something or not)
3.) have buffee unequip any weapons
4.) start dancing
5.) make sure buffee is watching
6.) select buffee and type /setperf
7.) start your macro
8.) go 8 minutes without unclicking your target and not stopping dancing. you WILL need action refilled
9.) have buffee type /stopwatch
Worked for me!

I have another way much easier if you want to wait the 8 minutes.
1) Tell them to watch you
2) target them and run /setperform
3) keep dancing, don't worry about flourishes and do what you want, untarget them or talk to people or target other people don't matter. They can walk around as long as they don't go too far to watch you.
4) after 8 minutes, tell them /stopwatch and its all done they get a X2 mind buff if you're a master that lasts 2 hours.
Also, someone had run a test for active and passive while grouped for both, duh, what you tested was the passive and needlessly added a /setperform. The active buff will not work while grouped, it turns it into a passive whether you know it or not.
The speedbuff thing is actually taking into account one extra thing. The amount of flourishes, and not just the time factor. You feed the server with flourishes and after a bunch of em, it figures you've been working hard and grants the buff. Bad code. they should make you finish one flourish before you feed another one into it.
They need a "You are already performing a flourish" message with a check behind it to make it work.

/setperform your target and have them watch for 3:10, no /setperform - 4 minutes with a group to be safe. tested tonite and worked fine....doubled mind for 2hrs.

Save yourself a toolbar slot and name the macro "mindbuff" or something suitable and revise as noted
