Wow! I nearly fell out of my chair when I read the publish upgrade... I was a little upset about the NPC actors being removed since we were going to use them for an RP event on Eclipse but holy toast we finally got a new dance, fixed flourishes, and props! I'm waiting for the publish to load so I can jump on as Laera and start playing with our new toys How are they so far?

Wow I was kind of upset when I read that bf was removed from the game (though thrilled that afker's will be going kaput for the most part), but I just realized something... This rocks in a way because dancers aren't relegated to be trapped in a cantina for hours in order to get attention. In places where people have to wait like med centers, starports, etc. we can suddenly get attention. I wouldn't have thought this would work but I just got 13k worth of tips dancing in the theed med center : ) We still need some benefit to give players beyond just a measly inspiration buff but I think this could work out afterall.

And btw Bunduki and the new props ROCK!!!

An absence of BF, which did nothing anyway, does NOT mean entertainers do not or will not serve a purpose in SWG.

We were always free to entertain wherever we pleased, in fact I used to love it because it felt liberating to be away from the "ol' ball and chain" cantina, where my presence was expected - and instead, just outside performing for the pure fun of it.

There were several times where I was out playing music, and people said "My BF isn't getting healed" and I replied "That's because that only gets healed in a cantina." Their reply was usually, "Then why are you bothering to play out here?" And I'd say, "Ummm...because it's fun and adds to the atmosphere!" Many people tipped just because I was out to have fun and not "for profit."

Sure, now that BF is gone, we can go anywhere and perform. But we always could.

Instead all we did was lose what drew people to cantinas, regardless of whether they wanted to be there or not. We knew where we could find our patrons. Now, they've little reason to ever visit us. I think it's a shame.

Hell, I could care less about griping combatants, in that there is forced interaction EVERYWHERE in this game.

I have wounds, and I need to find a Doctor or a Jedi healer. No two ways about it, it HAS to be done. And what the hell is wrong with that? Absolutely nothing, as far as I'm concerned. It's part of playing the game.

Personally, I think this "fractured implementation" of our changes is a REALLY, REALLY stupid idea. Now, everyone who kinda thought we were headed towards mediocrity is more than proven right by the Dev team. We are now "useless" to a LOT of people. This is NOT where I wanted to see the Entertainer professions end up.

I DID NOT WANT TO EVER BE CALLED USELESS, OR HAVE PEOPLE EXPRESS CONDOLENCES TO ME FOR BEING AN ENTERTAINER.

This is truly a sorry state of affairs.

I could give a womprat's behind about a thoroughly buggy, half-assed broken system for Entertainers upon implementation if they'd done it all at once. Hell, sorry Dev team, what the hell else is new? Buggy Publishes? Pffffft.....just the same old, same old for SWG.

Heck, tell me a post-CU Publish that DIDN'T feature a show-stopping CTD fest or a game lockup issue. Go ahead and try.

Instead, I feel like the Devs are playing me for a fool at this point - and I'm going along with it, because honestly there's nothing I can do.

But, the Devs get their way...no matter what I think. They've managed to make people HAPPY to lose their main draw for cantinas, in favor of LOOOOOOOOOONG missing elite profession content, a new song and dance, and some props for Dancers. They really pulled a good one, here. AND, they're making us pay for multiple months of subscriptions just to SEE real and thorough and meaningful change for our professions.

I feel like a Grade A sucker today.

We haven't even seen an "In Development" thread for profession-specific buffs. Think about that. We're MONTHS away from this, people. That's $45 to wait for fixes. Who the hell do these Devs think they are, really?

I'm so friggin' fed up today. I hoped that at LEAST on Publish day, the Devs would come here and say "We're working hard on your stuff."

It would make all the difference.

Instead, we get condolences, and called useless, and we get giddy and happy over new sparklers and ribbons, and a new dance, and a new song.

Thanks Dev team, now make my elite profession worth something again in the eyes of this game's community, and PRONTO.

Yeah...

I know, I really should cancel both my accounts. It would send the message I would like to send.

But I can't bear to part with all the people in my great guild. SOE owes them a huge debt... and guilds like them as well. This is especially true for entertainers who are social by nature (as players) -- it's our social ties in the game that keep us subscribing. Yup, we're suckers for doing it, but... I can't say good-bye to my guildies just yet.

Rest assured, that is the ONLY reason I am willing to keep paying. I am paying a company I now despise (SOE) money when I would rather not give them one red cent, for the privelege of staying in a game with my game buddies. That's it though... and if enough guildies quit, that'll be it for me too. And probably, even my guild won't keep me going more than another 3 month cycle or so.

I really like the need for down time, now there is a lot less. I ued to love going to a cantina finding the non afk ent. watching them tipping aroun 5cu per point of bf healed. Before the CU i would just sit in the cantinas with my master smuggler tag up. any tells asking for slices i'd tell them to meet me in there, most liked the light rp aspect of it. now with slicing borked and no need for people to come in the cantinas there went half of my worth while game play (well back to space to blow up tier one cargoships to loot the fabled "smuggler revamp" i know the devs must have hid it there)

Ok, I really to clarify my earlier post.

It is NOT my intention to knock getting new stuff - new stuff is awesome, and by all means people should enjoy it. Having stuff that's just purely for fun is one of the things I love about Entertainer.

However, I feel like I'm seeingthis profession severely marginalized by a fractured implementation process for changes.

Think about this, for just a bit...kinda freaky, if you ask me.

What would happen to the rest of this game's community, and the game itself, if the Dancer and Musician professions were REMOVED from this game today, with Publish 20.

Dancer and Musician....gone.

What impact would this have on anyone, outside ofthe fact that we'd be honked off for not having our masteries anymore?

Would the game suffer? Would the community really get impacted? Would the economy be impacted?

No.

Why?

Because Master Entertainer, and even Novice Entertainer, now provide all this game needs to continue functioning. Musician and Dancer offer little that couldn't be compensated for by a Novice Entertainer. Yeah, Inspiration buffs would take longer to give. But people could still get them.

Think about it. I think it's very, very sad.

No Architects? No houses.

No Weaponsmiths? No weapons.

No Chefs? No food/drink (Artisan food notwithstanding - Chef foods are different from Artisan foods)

No Armorsmith?

Ok, you see where I'm going with this.

This game, it's community, and it's economy are fundamentally based upon interaction.

And quite frankly, Musician and Dancer aren't linked into the mix in any special beneficial way, at this point. Aside from Inspiration buffing faster, there's no other true valuable benefit to the game's community. Inspiration buffs are novice-level stuff...we should be able to pull in the big bucks with some SERIOUSLY better and cooler stuff than novices, just like any other profession. And I'd like to see some confirmation from someone significant that we WILL be linked in again, and soon. Because months of subscription fees waiting to see this happen is, honestly, asking a lot...when the profession's already been marginalized. We are losing new people due to this - people around for a month, who see paying for it...and decide not to. Why? Because the end game of Entertainer doesn't gain you much right now - and it should.

To the catty repliers... Chill, I was sharing my opinion and try to keep a positive attitude about possibilities with the game. You don't want to dance in the med center, that's cool I was just presenting another option that's available. I think one of the biggest problems with these forums is while you have people trying to present positive feedback, you've got a loud bunch that turn them into the let's b*tch-about-our-professions-problems forums. I love dancer and I love smuggler (I have characters in both professions) but sometimes I just feel like dang, the forums make it seem like we whine and cry so much no wonder people think we're getting nerfed.

As for dancing outside the cantinas, I've always known we had the ability to do this. I haven't danced with Laera in a cantina in almost two months, however, this is the first time I've gotten tipped for it since people actually were interested in the entertainment and not so focused on BF BF BF BF BF BF.... "My bf's not healing", "Why are you out here?", "Shouldn't you be in the cantina?", "Do you do bf healing lap dances?" etc. etc. etc...

The Good: People aren't focused on this blasted obligation to get their fatigue healed anymore when they see an entertainer. Are we purposeless? NO. The purpose of an entertainer is just that, to entertain. The new dances, songs, and problems help us do that better. I especially like the fact that the exotic dances mix better now and the new bunduki dances. People are curious and want to see these new things put to work which gives us a little padding to still get attention while the benefits of watching entertainers is worked out.

The bad: beyond inspiration buffs, which not so many people use cause they just don't make a big enough difference, there's not muchbenefit to watching a dancer other then roleplay. What we need (and I believe the correspondents are working on suggestions for this) is some sort of benefit that a player gets to watching a dance or listening to a song, not an obligation but something that can help all other professions. Maybe an increase in running speed or accuracy (from the rest time), maybe give those inspiration buffs a little more bang, a signifigant increase to xp gain, maybe have a benefit to taking a dancer along with a hunting group and having him/her dance in a camp, or make dancer a secondary option for actual wound healing so people can choose to go to a doctor or entertainer. For crafters, maybe a dancer buff that causes a percentage drop in the amount of resources required to make an item or a quickening of the timers for those items. The options are endless, I just hope that the devs have something in mind in an upcoming hotfix to put some new benefit into effect beyond just cosmetic additions (which are very cool, but need some more bang for benefit).

I love the props too and this is definately my favorite dance. I was so hoping this would be the next dance they'd get around to adding live. Having lots of fun with all this.. And far as the BF goes, I could really care less... but I just dance for the fun of it and socially.. could give me the best buffs or no buffs and it wouldn't matter to me since I didn't use em when I had em.

I'm an entertainer... I'm here to entertain. BF or Buffs had nothing to do with that for me so I don't see it as a loss.

However I can certainly see the side of people who do and think it was very wrong of them to take away everything, (Besides entertaining) that a dancer had to offer.
