Thread: Alien Dancers
I'm a Rodian dancer on the Kettemoor server. I was in the Cantina at Keren today and a thought occured to me. There really are very few hard core dancers that aren't Zabrak, Twi'lek, or Human. Now, nothing wrong with those races at all. My best online friend is a Twi'lek..
In my time, I've seen a few Wookie dancers, perhaps one or two Bothans, but no Mon Col or Trandoshan, and not a single other Rodian. Mostly all these other races make up band members, and I think I know where this MIGHT stem from. I'm no expert, so I have to rely on experience.
When I first started out, I wanted to take a chance with a Rodian dancer. I was skeptical at first about if people would find shun me for being an "unattractive", (and I use the term loosly, I personally think Rodians are cute)race. You know what I found out? I was dead wrong.
I've gotten wonderful RP experiences and made several friends through being a dancer and only rarely was myspecies an issue. When it was, it was usually some little twerp trying to bite off more than he could chew.
I've gotten good tips and developed a good relationship with patrons.
Now, the point. Don't worry about if you think the species is unattractive. There really is no such thing in my book. Instead, think of them as extremely exotic. ![]()
All you need is a good personality and a love of the dance. Take it from experience, no matter your species, people love dancers.
There, my feel-good post of the day. ![]()

Had a few extra thoughts. Theotherspecies add diversity to the Galaxy. So, it would make sense to have more of the other species as dancer to add diversity and an exotic air to the dancer profession. I know I'd get a kick out of seeing a Doshan shaking her thing right beside me. ![]()

Too bad you're not in Scylla - I shake my reptilian thing therepretty regularly
I picked a non-human because I'm sick of seeing humans all the time IRL (partly tongue in cheek) and thought it would be fun to play an alien in a SF game. I tend to play non-humans in other games for the same reason. I like to get into the non-human lore and have fun with it.
I've got to admit though, it can be a lonely world for us non-humans and particularly for us non-humanoids. Twi'leks and Zebraks essentially look just like humans with adornments, so it's easy for them to fit in. But the rest of us, we stick out.
When I first started dancing, "I've never seen a 'doshan dancer before!" was the first comment most people ever made to me. I've only see calmari dancing once or twice - and I can't vouch that it wasn't the same person each time. I have never seen a rodian dancing - but then I rarely see rodians at all. One of Tsiella's partners is a rodian and that's about the only rodian she knows. Bothans and calmari I often see as musicians but very rarely as dancers. Wookiees? Never. Every wookiee I've ever seen in a cantina has been a healer or a patron.
On the other hand, I think it's worth it too. I keep my eye out for non-human patrons, 'doshans particularly, and single them out for special attention. 'Doshans are often appreciative to seeing one of their own kind out on the dance floor. I also admit Ienjoy the special kind of attention I get ("Wow I've never seen a 'doshan dancer!") as a non-humanoid.
In a sea of humanoid dancers, it ain't easy being green, but it has its advantages. Because we're different, we can stick out in a patron's memory too. It also has a lot of RP potential!
Thanks for starting this thread Obooma!
I was in a dance group the other night; it was me and seven Twi'leks. I've heard that there is one other Rodian dancer on Wanderhome, but I've never seen her. Being different has its advantages, people remember us (of course, if you do a bad job, they have an easier time remembering that too). It does seem that there is a lack of Rodians in the galaxy as a whole though. There were three of us in the cantina last night (me and two patrons) and that's the most I've seen in one place in a long time.

I'm glad this post was well recieved. I've not seen any other "alien" dancers around on my server either. I'd like to see the dancers who arn't Twi'lek, Human, or Zabrak who are reading to let us all know you're out there. ![]()

On the two servers I play most frequently I've seen several rodian dancers they are rare though have yet to see one in the master or near master ranks. Tarq does have one Mal Calamari Master Dancer she's the only one I've seen though.
Most dancers tend to be Human or Twi'lek whereas band members come from allraces. Mon Calamari'sand Bothans seem the most rare for performers.
Hi Obooma!
Yes there are other Rodian dancers, Bothan's too! I've danced with quite of few of them in the Moenia Cantina - yesI am Twi'lek sorry I liked the lekkus ![]()
Your always welcome to come dance with us hun! I too love to see a variety of us dancing , i think it gives an exotic appeal. But i haven't seen a Wookie Dancer yet - i know your out there somewhere though *smile*

I live in the Wanderhome galaxy and make my home somewhere between the Bestine cantina and my own up and coming cantina within the city limits of Mos Strahteks.
I've seen *one* Rodian dancer in my travels across Wanderhome, so I'm happy to see Rebeeka is another.
There is an abundance of Human and Twi'lek dancers, although I have to say I haven't seen many Zabrak dancers either. Wookiee dancers I've seen more often than Zabraks.
I've never seen a Mon Cal dancer, or Trandoshan yet... although I remember a good friend of mine from Beta by the name of Shivah. Beautiful and very talented dancer, she was.
I have to say though that I don't mind being a rarity... it's kinda nice. I was worried initially about the struggle of being a "dancing camel" *grumbles about camel and dog references*, but so far I've only been met with positive response. People seem to be fascinated over how short I am, and I usually am well met when I prove female Bothans can be very talented dancers.
Being rare has it's ups and downs. On one hand you're unique. You stand out amidst the lekku'd Twi's and fair-skinned Humans. On the other hand, sometimes it's hard to get noticed when there's a gorgeous purple Twi dancing seductively in her exotic leotard. Tips can be even harder to come by than normal for those who aren't Twi'leks, Humans or Zabraks.
I definately take pride in standing out though, as I think we all should.
Hi, Niemph!
I usually spend my time in Keren, as my house is close to there and it gets quite a bit of traffic. I might just relocate to Moenia, though. I'm Rebel and Keren has too many Imperial NPCs wandering around. It'd be wonderful to join a few more Alien types to dance with and I'm also highly tempted to make anotherEntertainer on a different Galaxy that's a Trandoshan in addition to my Rodian.
Thanks for giving me the heads up. ![]()

Have to disagree (with above poster) about the mon cal - we have one that dances at our cantina on Corellia and she is both very attractive and very popular. Most seem to be twi'lek, for obvious reasons (bonuses, human-like attractiveness with a touch of the exotic, movie reference) but I've seen all types, including wookies.
I will gladly admit that it always brightens my day when I see an overly large wookiee dancing or playing! They are just the best ![]()
My cantina in Kaadara has one regular Rodian dancer (though she's mostly sleepdancing), a bunch of us Twi'leks, and the assorted humans. One of my favorite old friends is a male Rodian dancer (Tuseiksi), and one of the first dancers I met was a Bothan... I love seeing a great variety in species.
And by the by, I chose to be a Twi'lek because I loved the amount of customizing you could do with them! So many colors and patterns and goodness... ![]()
