Thread: Goodbye Dancing :(

As much as it pained me, I had to bow to the inevitable. Without the ability to buff my own mind, I'm forced to join the ranks of the normal players and forgo dance alltogether.

It was a difficult descision, as a Master Dancer/TKA, I loved the idea of being a total body control player. But without the ability to buff my mind to the extent that every other player can, I can't be any use in PvP.

So Instead, I started my Medic/Doctor training. I'll miss the lovely dances, I'll miss the joy of clothes shopping to look good for others instead of myself. I'll miss the hours of fun I had in the cantinas chatting with everyone.

I wont miss the rude people trying to cyber me every 15 minutes, Nor will I miss the people running in, watching me, getting healed, and leaving with nary a word said.

Good luck to all you die-hards still tripping the light fantastic! And remember, Cize is a very good tipper!!

Be well and, See you in the Funny Papers

Hate to see you go Ciza, but honestly I totally understand considering your profession. I have one master dancer/tk master and one master dancer tk novice (still working on skills as this is a new char for me), so I feel your pain deeply. My game play yesterday evening was quite the exercise in frustration as I buffed the crap outta my party and several others out of group via /setperformance (for very generous tips, I might add), took off in the wilds of Dathomir with my group to do some of the new mob missions there...and was the only member of the group to become incapped at all during the entire evening...from lack of mindpool....sigh.

Frankly unless something changes with the buff situation, I will most likely be giving up Dance as well with at least those two of my chars. The others have professions that aren't quite as mind-intensive, so its not quite as frustrating.

Btw, the only way I have been able to get a mind buff from ANYONE thus far has been to sit like a regular patron and request /setperform on myself. I have yet been able to get one to kick in on me from another dancer while dancing in the entertainer group.

Well, as a master TKA you can buff your mind by using PowerBoost or using spice and food OR watch/listen another dancer/musician ( if you are not the only one, of course ). Sure, this is not the dancer buff but do you think that all the players you will meet in battle will be mind buffed by a master ?

With your logic why not drop TKA, because "TKA can't be as effecient in combat next to a ranged fighter" ?

Just my opinion.

I'm a bit confused here...

... and Medic/Doctor training will allow you to buff your own mind?

Something is odd about this decision. What's the big deal? You're in a dance/music group anyway. /watch someone else in the group while you dance, and let your mind go up "passively". Or /watch them do a /setperform on you... You don't think YOU would buff yourself faster than THEY would, do you? What's the difference if we each buff ourselves in 8 minutes or if we buff each other? It's the same 8 minutes...

Something is just not making sense about this decision.

Also, remember the mind buff was JUST implemented. If it's like everyhing else, there will be several hotfixes to it and probably at least one major change in an upcoming patch that will affect it. My own advice would be to be a little patient, but one thing I have noticed on this game is that the majority of the players do not have any patience at all. Ah well... Good luck as a medic. Hope you like it more than dancing.

Want to hear my opinion? It's not very flattering and could be considered callous.

In short, this is a temper tantrum. It's the equivalent to saying, "If you won't give me the candy right now, I'm going to hold my breath until I pass out."

The big difference here is that the user is following through with the threat (or so we are led to believe). The person is probably going to dump Dancing. But it's not really based on the buff issue. You can see in the note that the user is tired of Dancing anyway. The user is tired of the profession and how it's treated (and we've all seen that in our own eyes too, I'm sure).

However, it's a convenient exit. I suspect the user was going to drop Dance anyway. But now that there is a new and improved buff that cannot be applied to oneself, the user is able to drop Dance and make a bold, dramatic statement. The user can shout out to the devs, "I am abandoning this worthless profession because you wouldn't give us this!"

Why did the user choose to drop Dancer? Is it really because of the buff not affecting yourself? Why didn't the user drop sooner when the buff was really worthless? Back when the buff potency was a 1:2 ratio and the duration a mere 2:1 ratio, why didn't the user drop the profession? And guess what; you couldn't buff yourself then either.

So, that's my opinion. The user wants to get attention (how many times do you see people posting, "I'm leaving and I mean it," only to show up again 2 weeks later?) in order toprove a point. Go ahead, prove me wrong. I'd like to be shown the error of my ways, because I hate knowing that people with that kind of mentality actually exist. I want to be wrong.

But if I'm not wrong, it'll take more than foot-stomping and drama queen exodus to persuade the devs. If I read correctly, Ravenmist already is working with the devs on this. Perhaps working on that argument instead of putting on a show for all of us is more effective.

Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

I dunno I've never tried it. But so what? You have to sit down and rest don't you? Get a buff while you do that. Is it THAT big of a deal during a dance gig to stop for eight whole minutes to get a buff from someone else? Is the fact that you have to do this, by itself, the reason to leave the whole profession? We couldn't do it before, for 3 months... I didn't see anyone leaving for that reason. Now that we still can't do it, suddenly it is an issue?

And tell me, just exactly how does becoming a DOCTOR fix the problem that you cannot buff your own mind? Since doctors, last I checked, could buff Health and Action stats, NOT mind.

My guess, even if the original poster is a grinder to the Nth degree, by the time he/she gets Master Doctor to be able to buff everything BUT mind on him/herself, there will be a patch that lets dancers self-buff.

Again.. what is the problem with all these SWG players who are so impatient? And these people want to be given Jedi slots? Ugh, can you imagine? They'd all turn to the Dark Side in a second because they have no patience...

:-)

Kuildeous , I created this character with the intention of being a dancer/TKA. Well I mastered both, met some great people, but Dance has its place, and with full Doctor buffs I can place on myself, as well as the mind buff from Powerboost, I can do what I want in PvP or PvE. I never started dancing as a way to buff my mind, I Mastered it long before they even mentioned anything about increasing the potency of our buffs.

But, Its not fair that everyone can benefit from our skills but us! Yeah, its possible to make great tips buffing, but I make plenty of credits running kill missions. So Doctors can buff themselves. Its completely unfair that a Master Dancer cant buff themself. If it was made a Master only ability, it would eliminate any of the so called "dabblers". Ive posted questions to the Devs, ever since it was on TC, to no avail.

So, its time for me to move on and try something new, hopefully this will work for me. And Yes I've dropped all but the knowledge tree now, Im only 10k healing xp from Master Medic. yes my dance is gone

I wasnt looking or any, vindication of my actions, nor flames calling me a pouter or whiner. Its just the Dance profession has fallen short of mine, and undoubtly other expectations.

Granted alot of dancers are regarded as strippers and not true professionals. This has always bothered me a little bit, but its to be expected in a world where theres absolutely no repercussions for our actions. Anyone is free to be as rude or as nice as they want to be.

I was simply saying goodbye, perhaps I didnt word my farewell as eloquently as you or others would have liked, and I was telling the others to keep up the faith. After Mastering Music (Ne'Bi Bi'i, Intrepid ) and Dance Im sorry to say that the entertainment professions are sorely lacking at the Master level.

Theres bugs, bad missions, buff issues, harassment, stale flourishes, ect... too many to list all, and no doubt everyone is well aware of these and more. The straw that broke my back was seeing a full group of people with 3k+ Mind hams, and the poor dancer in the group, having to use spice just to stay alive!

so instead of buffing minds, I'll be buffing bodies.

I fail to see your point. You can buff a whole group and you are sad you can't buff yourself? You don't know any master dancer friend?

I'd be glad I can help so many friends, and be such a useful member of a group. Hope you have someone still to heal mind wounds in your group's camp.

Didn't make sense to me and I read the post twice. So we can't buff ourselves..no big deal. If it hurts your pride to be a customer too then makes me wonder if dance was the right choice for you in the first place. No career combinations are meant to make anyone self sufficient..it was set this way on purpose. Not dissing you...just dont understand the complaint (buff wise that is).

The original post isn't talking about dancing in a dance group (i.e. in a cantina). It's talking about dancing in camp. Usually there's only one entertainer on a hunt.
