Thread: Poll: Dream Dancer!
- Dance would have an impact on the economy of the game.
- Dance would have an interactive element that rewarded players that put effort into it.
- Dance would be fun for someone who wasn't really into video game math.
- Dance would be just as important to the health of the game as combat.
These would be my objectives. The way I would make this work would be as follows.....
Dancers would be able to provide buffs from their performances. HOWEVER - These buffs would be interactive and require significant effort to produce. All dancers would be able to dance all dances but they would learn new flourishes (which would work somewhat like combat attacks) as they increased in skill. The skill of the person playing the dancer would have an effect on the size and duration of the buff. A perfect dance would give a perfect buff. Buff requirements would be random with a simon says style routine you needed to follow to give a buff. The buffs would not be macroable at all as they would be randomly generated at the start of the buff each time.
A dancer that did not flourish would gain no experience. A dancer that flourished but did not follow the simon says pattern would also not gain experience.
Healing would work like it currently does. A passive effect that the player needing the healing would control. HOWEVER - The healing would cost the player needing it... Players would get the healing they paid for. If you tip dancer 1 credit you heal 1 BF or 1 mind wound etc. This way players would be actively funding entertainers. AlsoIwould make dancers heal one type of mind problem and musicians the other.

Basically I want to be able to write/compose a space opera, with dance/love scenes, dance/fight scenes, and dance/death scenes. I'm really looking forward to ripping off the Bard. This would include, of course, custom designed music for the play, fast and easy image design between scenes...

omg, wow - that would be awesome!!!
Wasn't Star Wars initially considered to be a "space opera" too? ![]()
/Dreamy isnt it =)

we'd have an easy way to coreograph our own flourishes. The interface would be something like a video editor and you could cut and blend any move from any danceand combine flourishesin a completely customisable way(lyrical twirlie into formal kneel into exotic twisty turn thingall in one flourish--or something like that).
We'd have every kind of prop you could want. Ribbons, feather boas, top hats and cane, fire!, poles, ect.
Our movements would be fluid and returning to the base dance from a flourish would look natural.
We'd be able to control our movement on the dance floor and dance our way to a new location
Folks would come to see the shows because they want to, not because they have to
- The basics--I'd definitely like to see more tools to help with choreography, including /startbands, /changedances, group effects. Of course, all base dances must be fixed in order to help put on a production, as does drifting.
- Props. I'd like to see us gain a new prop every box or two...similar to musicians getting instruments. Novice Ents could get something like ribbons. A master Dancer may acquire a pole that they could set down anywhere, just like a Nala or Omni Box (but no targetting issues like the Nala or Omni, heh). This of course means a new exotic, with a full 8 flourishes used on the pole.
- Unpopular to some, but I would like to play the role of a "celebrity" in an technological age. I'd like to produce videos for public consumption. I'd also like the ability to broadcast. This could even include other professions. Artisans of some variety could produce plasma screens. People could buy videos or turn into the Drygo station if I'm on. Celebrity status and fame points could be a byproduct of the amount of viewers one has. In this scenario, we should also be able to broadcast not just individuals, but bands, and dancing troupes. Extra experience could be gained through /bandflo's for everyone. After all, this is a "performance," not a bunch of people dancing around haphazardly in a Cantina.
- The ability to actually sing songs with a computer generated voice. There could be 8 songs to sing that go along with what the musician is playing perhaps, to avoid copyright issues, like with dancing and music. ID's could "customize" our voices.
- I have always liked the idea of a spy role, as Warryr mentioned above. Quests like the Hutt Casino that only entertainers (including disguises done by ID's) and smugglers could do, that would benefit not only us, but the entire playerbase. I'm unsure how it would work exactly, but I like the idea.
- I would love the Cantina to return, or become, the hub of information gathering. I want the Cantina to be a place where smugglers are dealing spice and slicing. This means the smugglers need some love, so their spices can be more viable again. Perhaps certain "transactions" that take place in a Cantina could be given bonusses (such as a better spice buff). I want /whisper to really work. I want people to RP and talk out loud, but whisper so others can't hear what they're saying, since everyone knows every language. Tables could act like this as well. People talking at a table would have their conversations be private. I've always wished for people to actually sit at tables in a Cantina. I want the bar area to work the exact same way. Private conversations. Bonusses to chef foods that are served at the bar.
- I want to see glasses of alcohol on the tables, that people can actually have a sip with a graphical animation. I'd like to see someone who's had 5 of these drinks start slurring their words and stumbling around. Basically I want the Cantina to be so amusing that people always want to go there because it's just too fun not to go, which would basically make the "fear" of Cantinas becoming abandoned a nonreality.
- The above would free up the possiblity of our mechanics being used out in the field more often. For example, battle fatigue healing in camps. Buffs everywhere with a droid (but better buffs in the Cantina), broadcasting, selling holodiscs, etc.
- Money would be made by selling holodiscs, as well as people that want to tune in to the broadcast that have to pay a set fee. Buffs of course, would be money makers.
- There would be an FS Quest geared directly towards entertainers. This quest would unlock better buffing stats.
To sum up, basically my idea of preserving the Cantina would be to make it so nobody would ever want to leave. But, if we *did* want to leave, or there was part of the playerbase that wanted buffs via discs, or someone to come along to heal battle fatigue, or wanted to watch us from home on their plasma TV during a house party, it would be viable without ruining the atmosphere of the Cantina. And, we'd have loads of new props to do our thing.

Panthu, how dare you ask this question. Now, you're going to make me sit here and type all this up.
This.is.going.to.take.days!
I've been trying to write a description of that for a while and totally muddling it.
If there was some way to smoothly combine regular emotes into the dance... and also props like weapons you could fire while dancing that would do no damage (including sabers!) and holographic images of landscape scenes like water trees etc.
Basically I want to be able to write/compose a space opera, with dance/love scenes, dance/fight scenes, and dance/death scenes. I'm really looking forward to ripping off the Bard.
