Thread: New Poplock Flourishes = Disappointment

I must say I am thouroughly disappointed with these new jerky,unnatural,non-fluid flourishes. My Entertainer is a master musician and novice dancer at the moment and I had really hoped the increased poplock flourishes would help feed my imagination on the great street performer he's supposed to be.

Instead all I see is myself using the same 4 flourishes I've always been using because the new ones are just so bad that people literally laugh when he does them. And no not "haha thats great" more like "OMG thats rediculous because noone naturally moves that fast or that jerky"

I'm asking Devs, please, re-work these with some smoother motion capture animations instead of the keyframing that makes it look so bad. I realize budget may be tight and all but really you are making an already trivial profession even worse instead of better.

Such high hopes, and all shattered after watching the first new flourish.

They are awful. Rhythmic is no better. and Lyrical or Formal didn't even make the patch.

*sigh* I think of what's there, MAYBE 3 can be worked into routines. For the most part, they're worse now - and worse as in.. before, the flourishes didn't match, but at least were *usable*. What is there now is not.

So, we actually LOST flourishes instead of gaining them. Yay.

Indeed. In my original post I was heavily talking about poplock because that's all my character really uses, but oh the horrors I saw when I tried the others.. formal.. *shudder*.

As a dancer the only thing I really get from my skill points spent is the ability of helping others by healing them, entertaining them, and keeping myself entertained. Sadly, those last two points seem to be fading more with this patch. If it isn't fun for me, then I just can't play it. I think I wore out my f1-f4 keys just admiring the first flourishes, now I don't even want to use the others.

A real step backwards in my opinion.

I've seen the new flourishes for formal, got a couple new ones for rhythmic 2 and also for footloose. I was appalled. They're awful. The speed and jerky movement is bad enough, but even if that were evened out the movements themselves are thoroughly ungraceful, and often just a short movement performed twice.

My entertainer is farther along in music; maybe she won't do dancing at all...

And what's really sad is the fact that people had posted here about these changes after testing them out on Test Center. It is not a good sign when they ignore the very people they have been begging to test these changes.

Why have a Test Center at all if they are just going to implement horrible changes without listening to the players in the first place?

I haven't had a chance to log in to test out the new flourishes yet, but if they are as hideous as they sounds, I think I'll be begging some kind people to start helping me train my Marksman skills so that I may avoid the snickers at my local cantina.

Ravenmist,

I know you are working hard for us, but i wouldnt hold my breath if i were you.

This is SOE in its truest form, don't expect this to be changed until at least the space expansion comes out.

Thats in my opinion when it will be fixed, if ever.

And just wait till they add Formal and Lyrical, LOL it will be too great.

They may as well give us the title "Master marionette"

Cause thats what we look like now

what a joke

man these are terrible

flourish 5 - these are your basic freezes. only thing is these are some of the stupidest freezes I've ever seen. such as the "look at my ass" freeze and the "i'm standing on one foot when I should be falling over so I'm gonna wave like schoolgirl" freeze

flourish 6 - this is a floorglide. but when you floorglide you usually move more than a foot in either direction

flourish 7 - this is a move called the lock, which is the foundation of locking. the lock is when you raise both arms in the air as if you're flexing bring them back down and lock them at the elbows. then you build on the lock by doing things like pointing, jumping in the air, etc. for those that know how a lock is supposed to look like... this is sad

flourish 8 - no clue what this is. the homeboy poses at the end... lolololololol

From the quality of the new moves for formal, I'm certain there was no motion capture (MC)used at all. If there was I'd be shocked because it certainly doesn't look it. I totally understand that trying to do human dance moves look real by hand without MC is very hard to do (I've wrestled with character animation in Maya myself), although possible, I don't think the character animatior had enough time to make the moves flow realistically. I noticed there is a LOT of problems with weight shift, joint angle and especially TIMING. It looked more like someone was yanking around IK handles with a seriousdeadline. This is why I don't think MC was used at all.

I'd be willing to wait for some quality, motion-captured dance moves (or quality animator keyframed) rather than more flourishes that just look out of place and are therefore unusable.

So thank you for trying to put something in to tide us dancers over, but I think we would have been better off if the effort wasn't rushed and you gave us something of better quality instead.

Unless I hear something from the Devs that says they're already working to change this, you can bet these new flourishes will be #1 on my top issues for my next report.

Kinda sad isn't it? Something new they added to improve the profession ends up being the biggest problem? I can't express enough how disapointed I am with the new flourishes over all.

I am not only disappointed or appalled about the new flourishes.

Iamfeelingmypersonly offended.

It is like someone gave me a little present:

"I know I have disregarded you in the last time a bit, but here is a little present for youall you patient, that you know I think of you"

Gladly I open the present, and what happens!!!

A jerk on a spring jumps out an hit me in the face.

"Ouch"

The donor turns without any word and vanishes in the fog.

This dicribes what I feel aproximatly. And I do not like a hit in my face

Monkind,

Your post hit the nail on the head as far as my sentiments on this issue.

I feel betrayed.

I really can't see myself dancing poplock or formal anymore for fear of accidently bumping one of those dreaded flourish hotkeys.

I would like to change my #1.

WE DO NOT NEED NEW FLOURISHES FOR EXOTIC!!!

Omg is THAT ever the truth. When I realized they'd changed twice (times 2 if you count the '2' versions) the dances listed in the patch notes, I immediately started going through the exotics to be sure.

Suddenly, the constant repeat boobah shaker flourishes don't look HALF as bad.
