I'm not sure that this is really the same case, but I think it's really considerate of you to think of others.

If Esh decides to do this, I'll probably spam the thread from both sides, heh.

Ikewe, edit the title of this thread to what you think would be appropriate and I'll add it to the FAQ on Friday. I can imagine it'll stay to the front page at least until then.

Perhaps I see it differently than all of you, but I do not see much, "entertainers are useless" rhetoric as anything that is negative. In fact, far from it. I see the majority of such posts as being genuinely concerned with our future, and standing behind us in solidarity as players just like them.

This is something we have lacked for a long, long time. We used to be the enemy of players. Now, we are objects of their concern. And that, my dancing friends, is the first step toward fostering a positive relationship between patrons and performers.

If theplayers came here and said, "LOL! UR finaey gettng wht u deserve! U dont desrve 2 b ina MMO! LOL," I would take that as a negative commentary. But the vast majority of patrons are not making posts like that. And the ones that do make hateful comments toward us are usually delt with quite harshly from those outside our ranks. Ifour detractorsreally intended to drive their point home, wouldn't they say something like, "those lousy ents got what they deserved," rather than, "poor ents. I fear for their profession?"

It is actually very nice to finally get some concern for us. And I would argue that it is the same concern they had all along toward us. We all were just too distracted toappreciate it--on both sides of the stage--until now.

It's easy to get offended when people say we're "useless," especially after putting up with what we've put up with the past two years. The bots certainly made me feel useless, and I resented that. I don't feel useless anymore. In fact, because I know for a fact that the bots are currently useless, it gives me great joy and a sense of empowerment. Even if that joy comes malicious hateful feelings that I have for the bots, it still makes me feel good.

But, I have to say, I agree with Sirii on this one. Except for the obvious former bots who are pissed that they are useless (which I love seeing, my evil side just loooooves it.), most of the people have been expressing concern. And, I like that. It's nice to see more people coming onto the forums, not just dancer, but the various galaxy forums and posting those concerns. It's more numbers for us. Whether they're entertainers or not, it's more voices for us. And, that's a good thing. And, it's helped to restore my faith in the player community. So, I really hesitate to jump all over anyone for saying that we're "useless." Because, except for the bots and they're supporters, the people who say this mean well. They may not phrase it the way we'd like. And, they may bring back bad memories of me feeling useless for so long because of the bots, and all the resentment that came along with that. But, the reality is, most of them are on our side. So, let's treat them with some respect. Those are the people that deserve it.

I agree with Panthu and Sirii. I don't think it's the same case as when the forum was literally alight with the fire of the pro/anti afk flame wars. I'm not sure we need to have another thread like that just yet, and I don't think it's going to get that bad. Like Drygo mentioned alot of the folks that are outright inflamatory are ex-bots anyhow. I have no room in my heart for their concnerns. After all, they stepped all over mine for so long. However, actual entertainerfolks should be able to voice their concerns over these post pub-20 issues so long as their not trolling in my opinion.

So people on the entertainer boards don't want to hear "we're useless/worthless" any more. I can certainly appreciate that. But some people need to be able to vent. It's great that some people are dancers or musicians for the sheer joy of entertaining, but those of us who used our ability to dance or play music to do something else have been left hanging. And just as much as people hate hearing "we're useless"I don't appreciate being told I should just quit. So perhaps those who need a place they can vent can have a spot in the FAQ? That way people who don't want to have that conversation any more don't have to bother with it and those who need to have a collective foot stomp can do so.

Okay, wasn't sure what to change the title to for you Esh. Everything I initially thought of seemed... inappropriate.. for a family-friendly forum. Does everyone think this new title works? If I could just get people to stop posting "if you don't like it don't let the door hit you in the hawtpants on the way out" or "the only people who don't like this were former bots" I'd be perfectly happy not having a special "protected rant zone". But lately I've been seeing a lot of that and it isn't helping my own attitude any.

Thanks Ikewe for this thread. I think having a place to just vent is probably healthy and constructive for us now.

I'm in the boat with "I have hope, and I'm hanging in there" ... but it gets harder everyday.

I mastered Pilot last night, Corsec Neutral, and otherwise I'm the quad master Entertainer. Flying has been a very good distraction from the state of things for me in the ground game. Here is the sort of things that worry me most:

Other players who see my tag of master dancer and ... unsolicited ... say "wow they made you guys useless, thats too bad"

Genuine sympathy, but how terrible to have the rest of the player base pity me for "wasting so much time getting master to be useless". That just isn't sexy on any level. ....or worse:

Other players who see me out with a friend adventuring and say "Your too weak to be here".

Actually had this comment said to me on Kashyyyk. Was with my friend who is a master TK and a master musician, and we had just successfully finished the cavern totems and webweaver blanket quest. Sure it took some time and some careful strategy, but neither of us died and we got very neat rewards, we rp'd the whole time and it was a blast! I was feeling great, and then : Came out of the caverns, and saw a guy I know for a fact started the game about 3 weeks ago, already a level 70. My friend and I have been here since launch, and now some new kid just looks automatically down his nose, not realizing that with some smarts even the 'weak' can get out and have some adventures.

I am far from useless, but in the eyes of others I have been made pathetic by the new game mechanics. That is simply ...wrong.

All this just reaffirms my original inclination that unless we provide something to combatants they really desire, something ATK only, then we have forever become the '4th class citizen' of the galazy.

Until something happens, I fly, I dance, and I hope, ever hopeful ... but it gets more difficult as time goes by.

The reason why I view these as negative is because of the history of the people posting them. They're not people, by and large, who've supported live entertaining for the past 2 years. They're the people who've supported bots for the last two years. The same combat people who are posting their "condolences" now are the ones who drove us to this point.

They're people who view us as worthless because they view a bot as the epitome of "entertainment." And THAT'S what I find offensive.

I do not have much evidence of this. In fact, bots really haven't done anything special since before May.

I don't really see it too much here, but I see it all around this forum: be it the profession boards, the general boards, or the various "core system" boards.

Make no mistake. A buffbot supporter isn't a supporter because they think the profession should exist. A buffbot supporter is someone who believes it was a mistake to include these professions at all. Not only that, but they are without shame in making this known to anyone who will listen.

They have no tears for us, the buffbot supporters. Even buffbot owners may breate a sigh of relief that they no longer need to keep an account open.

I agree that buff bot owners should be happy now that they can either cancel their bot account or do something else that they actually enjoy with that account, but no, the majority of the freak out "worthless" posts I have read have been from bot owners.

Ikewe and the other function minded real Ents have been much more well stated in their concerns. The majority of these posts I have read have not been by these people, but bots. The real entertainer players have voiced their concerns in non-alarmist threads more often that I've seen.

Real entertainers I've noticed say "social interaction and buffing is not enough", where as the bot people have said "make me need this account for entertainer again." I don't know why they want it to be used for entertainer if they have no interest in social interaction, but they seem to have gotten attached to it.

Now, I do now that guild bots are often female. Even the chat bot I used to run in AO was a little cutie girl named Pernot and I used to send her these really funny "hey big boy" lines to say in guild chat. She was sort of like the guild pet. So, maybe people just want their bots to stay super super girly and they think Dancer does that best.

Also, I don't like to admit this, but I'm guessing that "Honeykins Lovemachine" and other bots might have built up some behind closed doors habits that the owner may be enjoying playing out quite a bit. A lot of people seem to think that the Dancer role and cantina scene give them a good excuse to "role play" thiswho would otherwise feel guilty.
