Thread: Buffed myself twice now, what's up?

Ok, first time I freaked out and took screenshots... second time I freaked out and took screenshots and I'm posting.

I don't know if I'm really buffing myself or just activating someone else's buff that didn't set. For sure it is happening when I stop dancing though.

1st time - Watched a grouped dancer on Lok, had been getting buffed that way all day. Last buff didn't set, killed one lair, left for Dant. Started a new team on Dant, started buffing, danced for a really long time and just chatted, no other ents in team or cantina. Stopped dancing, full double mind 2 hour buff.

2nd time - Watched a grouped dancer on Tat, had been getting buffs fine, last buff didn't set. Tried two more times, still didn't set. I buffed others, tried to get buffed again, still no good. Other dancer stayed in the cantina grouped, the rest of us went out Krayt hunting. Other dancer logged and left team while we were out. Danced in two camps early on, did a lot of krayt killing, hours later danced in the last camp buffing others... and bam! Two hour full double buff when I stopped. Again, no other ents in group.

Anybody know what this is about? o.o

Oh, and I've had brandy buffs onwhen I was not able to take the other dancer's buffs both times... but I have taken buffs just fine with brandy before and I know I have buffed others fine on brandy. Maybe there is some weird bug that happens when a buff won't activate with brandy buffs on? I'm just trying to think of anything it could be. ><

I didn't think you could dance or music buff yourself. I haven't been a dancer for a bit, so maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like it's even on the dancer top five issues list. Or maybe I'm not reading your post correctly.

You still can't, thus my freak out.

Like I said, I don't know if the Dancer Buff showing up in my Buff Window is from me or from watching another Master Dancer who's buff I wasn't able to take at the time. I do know that it is activating when I stop dancing.

This is obviously a bug of some kind. I'm not typing in any kind of command or anything and it's suprised me both times. I think it would be odd if it's happened to me twice now and no one else had seen it.

I really think it might have something to do with the brandy buffs, but it could be the trickle down code from the next publish or something. *shrug*

The only thing I can think of is that maybe you were, as you say, watching another Master Dancer that you were grouped with and they gave you a passive buff.

Right... and the fact that I was no longer grouped with a Master Dancer (or any other ents and none were even around) _both_ times and it had been a couple of hours since I had been grouped with a Master Dancer and it only activated then when I stoppeddancing makes that a totally normal passive buff. It's no big deal, I just thought someone else might know why it was happening.

I was _not_ watching a Master Dancer, I had been before... hours before and the dancer I was watching was not even around or grouped with me both times when the buff activated. It's more like when someone in my group doesn't get buffed the first time I'm buffing, then next camp hours later they say "wow, I only watched you for 2 secs and I got a full buff". We know that happens, the buff carries over from the last time they were watching but didn't type /stopwatch.

The weird thing in this case is that I am the one activating the buff by stopping my own dancing... I do not know if it is residual buffing from another dancer getting activated from hours before who is no longer around... or if it my own dancing that is buffing me. I know this sounds confusing, it's freaked me out both times... if I had been in a crowded city cantina or been grouped with other dancers when it seteither time, I would not have even payed any attention.

Both times I had been watching another dancer in an empty cantina other than myself, the other dancer, and groupmates who didn't even have novice ent... and both times it activated hours later with out the other dancer in group or around even, first time in an empty PCcantina other than myself and non-ent groupmates and then in a camp the second time, again all groupmates totally entless. Clear?

It's a buff from the other dancers. Group buffs will store and you can activate them later. I gotta go to work. I'll explain my findings when I get home.

/giggle (posting from work)

Ok I've found that sometimes I don't heal myself. This is especially prevelant when I'm grouped with fighters who are heavily wounded (not sure if that is relevant). On some occasions all I have to do to fix this is type /stopwatch with no target and start dancing again (although on other occasions I have to leave the cantina or camp and come back). I'm assuming there is some kind of auto /watch when we start dancing that helps to calculate the healing for the performer and auto /stopwatch when we stop. My hypothosis is that this feature (which I cannot confirm even exists) is somewhat broken. I intend to test another hypothosis that the performer will not heal until all members of the group are healed. My point here is that I'm not certain of the claims I'm making.

Anyway, what would make sense to me is that the /stopwatch didn't take when you were watching in the group. We all know that /watch is broken. It serves to reason that /stopwatch would be too. I know that on occasion someone will /stopwatch and the buff doesn't take so I've asked them to continue to /stopwatch until it does. On one occasion a guild mate had to type /stopwatch 3 times before he got the buff- but he did get it. Perhaps what happened is that when you /stopdance the theoretical auto /stopwatch kicked in activating the stored group buff.

Some other information I've found regarding mind buffs

1.Any amount oftime you are "skill animating" doesn't count towards your own buff this applies to both musician and dancer buffs. So if you are /listening to a musician and dancing the only time that counts toward your musician's buff is the times when you run out of action and stand still. It doesn't matter that you can hear the music- if you are dancing you are not listening.

2. Group and Targeted mind buffs can be activated at anytime with /stopwatch. If you stop dancing while your customer walks away it will not auto stopwatching and they can get where they are going before activating the buff.

3. A second group buff can be stored. Once the initial buff is activated, if the customer is still grouped with you they can /watch again and all flourishes and time spent dancing while the customer is in range of you counts towards a second buff. If they need to go out of range of you, simply stop dancing so that the auto stopwatch doesn't kick in. Once the initial buff wears off they can activate the second buff with /stopwatch. The key here is that they cannot stopwatching by command or by walking out of range while they still have a timer for the initial buff (even if the buff was removed by death). If they do the second buff will attempt to activate and will no longer be stored.

Just FYI from my experience.

Oooooh, I think you got it! Thanks Silly, you rock!

I know 1,2, and 3 to be true... so that makes sense I think. The stored buff watching from the other dancer is just getting kicked in just like she was still around, because it was my dancing that threw it off in the first place.

Hey there it'co,

Yeah, Ravenmist implied that the Dev's have hinted that we MAY sometime in the unforseen future be granted the ability to buff ourselves. I'm not certain what to expect but it looks like patch 8 and 9 may include some love for entertainers. Let's hope their not just blowing sunshine up our *ahem*.....well you know what I mean.
