Thread: Curious about your opinion.
If someone who plays the game leaves a macro running when they are at work or sleeping, do you think thats unfair? Does it depend on the situation? Like if the person works alot during the week and they cant devote all the time to just sit there and dance manually, but they wanna get caught up with the rest of the dancing world, would you mind if a person left a macro running then?
The only reason i feel its wrong to leave a macro running is if you dont tell customers to tip the people who arent afk. to be afk and get tipped for it is definetly insulting to other dancers. other than that, i dont see why its such a big deal. The macros were created for a reason, and what people do with their own characters (as long as it doesnt mess anything up for anyone else) is their own perogative. Also, if the person is in a group and dancing, they still contribute to the mass XP gain of large groups. So aside, from the whole tip issue, what is so bad about macros?
Just curious about your opinion.
Well, since you asked ![]()
I'm really not a big fan of AFK macroers, despite having some entertainers I consider friends who do it regularly. Here's my take (and this aplies to more than just entertainers): using an AFK macro to perform your profession's role (be it dancing, playing, or blowing up Durni outside of town) dilutes the faith placed in your profession. After all, if a simple endless loop macro can do it, how hard can it be?
This, in turn, devalues the work of those dedicated souls who are there and are putting effort into their profession, whatever it may be. So, even if part of your macro is to tell customers to tip the active entertainers, and not yourself, just by AFK macroing you're creating an environment in which tips are lower because of lesser perceived expense of effort and, in turn, lesser perceived value.
My $0.02 as a non-entertainer, take it as you will.
You'll find all sorts of opinions on the topic here.
My personal opinion is that you just may bea troll... ![]()

I appreachiate the quick responces. Definetly better than half the other boards out there.
Im just curious as i just started entertainer yesterday, and i personally dont have the time to devote to ANY game, but i do want to achieve master dancer. I get to play alot of weekends (if im not out doing something else) but during the week i work horrendous (sp?) hours. So I created a macro last night and i left it running today. I do feel bad about it, but with the type of lifestyle i live, i wouldnt make master dancer for many many months if i didnt. I get 2 hours in a day (if im lucky) and thats about it. So i was just curious to see how the Dancer community percieves this. I apologise if its offending to anyone, but I would never get to dance with the best of you out there if I didnt do macroing on the down time (work, sleep).
For what its worth, I do respect those of you who fight for this profession and sit there and entertain. When I am home, I work my butt off on whatever professions i use. I only started this one yesterday and i can see why it is so great. The amount of communication and visual presentation had me entertained for several hours yesterday (the longest amount of time i have put into the game in a long time because i had off from work.)
Ok guys, just wanted some insight. Thank you. Much respect to you all.
Speaking only for myself, those who have spent their careers at the keyboard, no matter where they are in the skill tree, are more than welcome to dance with me. Those who have macro'ed their way up are not. I fail to see why you think mastery is essential to enjoy this profession. It's enjoyable at every stage...and if you don't find it so, then you won't enjoy it at mastery either.
I'm not offended in the least. You're only ruining your own experience when you reach mastery and find yourself with few entertainer friends and a reputation problem.

That is 100% true the dancer is a ton of fun at any level, and if your waiting for exotic to make the class fun for you your not going to like it.
My opinion...
I rather dance with someone who can only dance basic 1 but who is always there then with 5 Exotic dancers who are there for maybe 10 minutes a day.
I remember my first weeks dancing with a few others using the /band flo's on basic andrhythmic until I finally learned the footloose, those days were fun.
I hear you completely, and all of you are right. The only thing i can really say is that I wanna be able to put on a good performance when i actually DO get a chance to sit and enjoy the game. I understand its not like marksman when you start out. When gnorts are white and all you have to defeat them are hopes, dreams, and a crappy CDEF Pistol. But i guess in that retrospect I look at it and my situation and think about how crappy it is that I would be a low level dancer since i work so goddamned much. I'm just loooking forward to having all the dances under my belt and being able to go back and experiment with each one. Anyways, thanks for the opinions everyone. I agree with you all, unfortuneatly time doesnt agree with me. Take care!
There is nothing wrong with taking a couple months to get Master Dancer. My schedule is as tight as yours sounds and I am working my way to Master Dancer (few breaks to kill stuff along the way) slower than most, yes, but at the keyboard 100% and enjoying every second of it.
Being a good entertainer requires the knowledge of interacting with the customers, which you can't do if you are AFK.
So if you want to pay your subscription fee to not play the game, that is your choice, but stay off to the side in cantinas and please don't put spam in your macro.
i personally dont have the time to devote to ANY game, but i do want to achieve master dancer.
Ask yourself a question: Would you use the same reasoning to use an aimbot in CounterStrike ?
Yes, macroing is the easy, egoistic, cheating way. The dark side. I cannot hinder you, but if you do, you won't have fun with me at master level, because I will not group with you. You can have fun at any level, or you can macro to master and not have fun then either. Your choice. Personally, I would invest 15$ in fun and not in CPU usage optimization.
The reason is, except for what amount to basically minor differences in the motion-captured animations and a few glowy-lights bells-and-whistles, the fundamental nature of the profession is exactly the same at all skill levels... Dancing in time to the music, interacting with patrons, socializing, and if you want, roleplaying. The same is actually true of any profession. You may be able to tackle bigger things as a pistoleer with a DX2 pistol, but the fundamental nature of pistoleering -- holding a pistol, targetting a creature, and clicking on a special or series of specials until it is dead, possibly running around while doing it -- does not change from novice marksman through master pistoleer. If you enjoy doing those things, then I don't see why it'd matter whether you are holding a CDEF and running from flesh-eating chubas, or holding a DX2 and running from Nym's Pirates. The fundamental nature of pistoleering remains the same at all levels.
Dancing is exactly the same way. I can understand if you, say, don't like one particular dance (e.g., footloose, which I don't like myself). But you get enough of a choice (even to start with, 2 very different dances) that you can always just pick the one you like best and go with that. Basic is actually a pretty decent dance (well, 3 or 4 of the flourishes are decent and the base dance doesn't 'wander' too much and looks just fine).
If you enjoy dancing, I don't see why whether you are a Master or not is going to matter. And if you don't enjoy it at the lower levels for whatever reason, I can't imagine how you would enjoy it any better as Master. After you get done ooh-ing and ah-ing at the pretty animations for each new dance -- which lasts what, maybe the first 10 minutes? -- you're back to the fundamental nature of dancing, and it still hasn't changed.
If you really love dancing -- as I do -- then I don't see what the almighty rush is. So many people in this game seem to be in such an all-fired HURRY to get mastery in a profession, and I really don't understand why. If you like the profession, what's the rush? You should be enjoying it all the way along, and if you enjoy something wouldn't you want to savor it? And if you don't like the profession why would you bother to Master it? (OK, Jedi holocron stuff excepted, since that is just a means to an end.) So, I guess I just don't understand what the rush is...
