Thread: How do you handle hecklers?
I become VERY testy with guys who get crude and explict. Licks get my sword in response with 'Honey you'll be kind of Useless after you LOOSE that tongue.' and a Laugh.
Ones that get VERY crude with talk about their SIZE and such get publically humiliated. 'Hey eiloo can I borrow your tweezers. XXX wants to show me something.' or 'Sorry hon. Size DOES matter and you just DON'T measure up.'
Sometimes I have to get MORE direct and say to another Dancer something like " Hey eiloo ever notice how the guys with the LEAST to offer always brag the loudest?'
... all of which (being very good comebacks) got my mind working. All 4 braincells of it
Any dancer who dances for long will face some heckling. Some of it can get pretty bad, most of it sexual. Yes, I realize we have the /report function, but some things are just bad enough to deserve response but not bad enough or persistent enough to warrant /report.
So how do you handle them?
This goes for men too. I've never been angrier than when I was in Theed one night and one of my male dancer friends was in our group. He was doing Lyrical, which admittedly is a very graceful, flowing.... feminine step. But when some bozo walked in and stood there with his gun, calling my friend "gay" and "fag", etc., I lost it. My friend just ignored him, but I lit into him, pointing out that most "men" who are fixated with other men's sexuality are either repressing their own homosexuality or they're 10 years old and haven't grown up yet. I asked him which applied to him. After some back-and-forth he calmed down but never did apologize to my friend.
Otherwise, the typical exchange might start with something like "ooh baby sit on my face!" or "nice rack, mama!" ... Some of my usual responses:
"How would you feel if someone said that to your mother?"
"I'll bet it takes a lot of practice to be such a jerk -- or were you born this way?"
"Hey, Keeon, I thought I heard a mouse squeaking. Did you hear it?"
Usually, though, the best approach is to ignore them and not respond. If they get bored, they leave. I'll make a point of OVER greeting other players who come in, to subtly drive the point home that they are persona non grata with me due to their childish behavior.
One self-important type one night pointedly reminded me that dancing for tips was a form of virtual prostitution -- and I pointed out that allowing bugs and lizards to kill you repeatedly for money was a masochistic perversion
Someone walked in the Cantin athe other day and approached me and called me a **edit**. He then tipped me 100. I was highly offended. I was wearing a slip dress and 3 other dancer were in flesh wraps. He said I was wearing what sluts wear.
Usually I have a nice conversation with this character, Iw as thinking maybe he was drunk or something. It was the first time I didn't thank a tip and I was debating about sending it back to him but I really didn't want to start a whole big fiasco since he hasn't been a problem before. I think if he does it again though, I will give back the money.
But I love your suggestions of what to say.
Heckling is wonderful and I love them when they come in. It's always a good chance for some witty comments that can get your regular patrons laughing or for the other entertainers to try out some lines too ![]()
Please note that some hecklers are actually playing hecklers in-character and are roleplaying it. I had a few customers which were heckling me and I was right back with them in-character. They also sent me /tells that they were roleplaying being jerks and each of them gave me a nice tip.
Don't assume that all hecklers are jerks in real life--many are roleplaying the grittiness of the Star Wars universe and it's a good idea to respond to heckling with in-game witty remarks first before escalating it ![]()
Personally, I enjoy the challenge of a heckler. Most of us dancers are in it for the roleplay anyways ![]()
Shooting down a heckler is part of the entertainment you provide and possibly one if the funnest parts of the job.
Nothing is more satisfying than watching a heckler run out with his tail between his legs before a roaring crowd.

I made everyone in the corellia cantina hate me. Even had a guy fight me. I play a TKA, and decided to say that dancers serve to purpose in the galaxy. That there a waste of time. They don't contribute anything constructive. (Of course i was rping. But it was funny, everyone in the cantina jumped on my case. It was like pulling the pin on a grenade. Kept getting challenged to combat by the patrons. *L* As if beating me would prove something.)
So remember, not everyone is an ass. Some of us just rp asses (at times.)
Oh and i won the fight. Which kind of added a nice dramatic effect. All the dancers and musicians stood outside watching cheering there hero on...and i killed him. Then just left the scene walking 'slowly'. It was fun, and a nice lesson that hero's may be brave, but the grave favors the brave.
Cheers.
I've seen both-
I've seen a guy RPing that he was a schmuck (he actually /t'ed me to let me know that he wasn't like this IRL, he was just RPing) I was happy to play the opposing part from then on
However there is the other half of the coin....
Liek last night
(It's miragel's story time again)
Last night it was the usual dancing, however for somereason there was a lot fo tension on the server (scylla).. dunno y.
A guy that was on THESE forums(well teh scylla forums thread to be exact)talking smack about Akasha (for those of u who dont know who she is, she was the master tailor on our server.. the ONLY master tailor on the server.. adn a busy, but kind woman)
Well Akasha recently quit being a tailor bc ppl were trashing her home, and being general morons. understandable. it sux, but the server will deal.
well this guys and i had started exchanging words on the forums.... along te lines of-
me-(sarcasticly) I've had the pleasure of dancing for you no?
him- yah all the girls dance for me in mos espa
me- be sure to notice the bored look in my eyes next time
him- the last thign I notice is ur eyes.
well later that night when I signed on, he appeared in the cantina and started harassing my friends and dancers.
him- I RUN THIS CANTINA
me- The only thing you run is your mouth.
we dueled, I lost, adn he deathblowed me. Mr- I'm not going to use weapons and then pulls out a rifle, I suppose I should have seen it coming. o well.
he's one of those wookies that thinks he owns everything... forutnately one of the guys in the cantina killed him...
if it weren't for all my friends on that server I would leave it... there are just too many immature ppl on there.... maybe its just tatooine? i duno.
I generally like hecklers, bc it gives me the chance to make a mockery of them in the cantina and my dancers and patrons liek that, but its still irritating....
patience is a virtue
one I'll try to hold.

Dancing for fun, Fencing for protection.
LOL! Funny Ro'yall, never once did I ever hear you say you were RP'ing, and if you were would have been great to know
.... You also forgot to add all the whining you did because you challenged a master marksmen.. YES! you my dear told him to go outside with you, then cried because he ran 40 meters from you before the innitation of the fight. You also cried because he wanted you to put your droid away. You put it away tell HIM to challenge you because "this isnt fair im hand to hand combat and you are ranged" You finally gte him to challenge you then go behind his back and pull the droid out anyways. So no you didn't win fair, and your challenger also told me that afterwards he killed you and your droid ![]()
Just thought I would add the rest of the story in there for the rest of you reading since I happened to be there to see it all happen ![]()

Hecklers and idiots get put in their place pretty fast at my usual cantina -- the regularentertainers are all pretty close, and the regular customers as well. Anyone who shows disrespect to the performers gets a boot to the head pretty fast.
I'm a male dancer so I get the occasional braintrust who thinks it's incredibly funny to say "u r gay dude." My usual first comeback to that is, "Gorgeous and young? Thank you for noticing." 99% of the time that gets a laugh and they back off, but the ones who don't get it are treated to a /wink and /blowkiss and "Don't you like me, hmm?" That definitely runs off the insecure little jerks.
I made a comment like "Who wants to slide me 3k so I can buy jewellry!"
some guy said "Only if you XXXX me!"
I then replied "I don't like to putstringy thingsin my mouth they get stuck between my teeth."
Crowd laughed very loud. He sat there for a minute, then left. I proceeded to get tips from the crowd and other performers that exceeded 3k in less then a minute.
A heckler is an opportunity, everything is actually an opportunity.

Ignorance must be bliss. First off, i was rping. Second off, i 'goaded' him into fighting how i wanted. It's called rping. I used his emotions and anger to get him to do what i wanted, when i wanted, and then beat him. Ro'yaal is not stupid to fight a marksman from 50m away. So he (and in turn I) goaded him into challenging me. I knew what i was doing the whole time. You call it whinning, i call it manipulation.
Secondly, if you really want to know, your friend lied to you. He never beat me and 'my droid'. After our fight i went to the startport to head for Lok, your friend spent WELL over an hour messaging me and crying. He wanted a rematch, he cried it wasn't fair etc etc etc. Ro'yaal doesn't give rematches to people he thinks are beneath him. And i beat him with a full HAM bar by using brains and tactics. He could have pulled out HIS droid at anytime. Stupidity is no excuse loosing.
Oh and incidentely, i did not give him a rematch. So after nearly 2 hours of whinning, he finally left me alone. It was getting too much. He told you he killed me and 'my bot' so he could get some respect back because he was humiliated. I've lost 2 pvp matches in my swg life. Neither of which have been to someone like him.
Believe me or don't, i don't care. It was rp to me. And i understand in rp just like irl, sometimes the guy who looses the fight will say he won amongst his friends to get props. But honestly, all rp aside, that's a pathetic thing on his part since he wasn't in character or roleplaying.
Lastly, whatever tactics one uses in pvp to win are good. Any melee fighter who starts a fight with a ranged user from 50m is an idiot...or has a plan. It's the only reason i let him start the fight from that far away. He needed to be humiliated, both IC and OOC actually. You saw me kill him, you did not see him kill me, ever. You be the judge.
I suppose it is my dear since , one I don't even know you, two you come up in the cantina talking about how a 'class' is worthless (hardly roleplay in my book) and two you challenge someone that is a rifelman to a duel then 'cry' when it isnt the way you want it. You call it what you want, whatever makes you feel better.

To me, if its even remotely close a role-play heckle, I will respond, duel, etc.
However it seems like most just come in and say 'dude your f-in gay, omfg'. These I just ignore.
