Thread: Is this only my humble vision or dancers really went somewhat useless after CU ?

I have returned to SWG about a week ago after 3 months + of not playing it.

That is, I went away before CU happened.

I used to be (and atm still am) a master dancer \ master DE.

But what I see about dancers atm is quite depressing to see.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but since CU both dancer and musicians are no longer nessacery, right ? That is, we are only needed (now) for some humble 10% buff for those who ever care for it. Moreover, with this CU there are even less people left who careaboutthe visual part of our profession, as many have left and the majority of those who entered are combat-interested mostly.

Yesterday I went to the Theed cantina. I don't mean I am not used to afk bots, but what I saw was afk bots (about 10 of them)only. And not even a single client around...

Ok, enough of this, now I have a couple of questions.

How are we supposed to makemoney now? I mean hasanyone figured any nice way to ?

Are dancers really that much useless now ?

Do we have something to hope for, but except dev'spromises ?

P.S. I really want to stay a dancer, since imo it's something likea symbol of non-combat aspect of the game, but ...seeing myself as needles to the rest of the world (read - server)is a strong point to change the prof...

P.P.S. I think I'm not the first to ask the questions, but maybe something has altered lately...

We are as originally intendted. A social profesions. Many of us do not feel useless and have a wonderful time with Dancer/Musician. Two of my toons are the Grand Master Entertainer variety, and another has a small amount of entertainer.

The social interaction is there. The ability to make credits is there. Yes, I'd love some content, but I'm loving it.

I don't have anything versus being a member of social profesion.

I just had a feeling of this social aspect of the game decreasing with CU.

Glad to hear I was wrong about it .

Nope. The social aspect is there. Many people do feel they do not have a purpose because they're not healers any longer. That combined with the continued AFK bot problem...well...it's made folks very sad. And very angry.

I love my Enterainer toons and I don't feel there needs to be changes to the profession. I think there does need to be added content and the removal of AFK. Not just for our professions, but for all professions.

Btw...if you feel like pulling together a toon on Kettemoor for next weekend, there is a Cantina Crawl. I can't be there myself, but I can sure help get you set up during the week.

Cheers! Oh and welcome back.

What you’re saying is valid for a traditional RPG player need, but this set wasn’t meant to attract traditional RPG gamers. The Devs have always resisted giving Ents traditional content when we’ve asked for it. If we asked for Healer enhancements, ways to survive in a combat encounter, or traditional RPG quests or missions, they told us we weren’t “getting it.”

That’s fine. *shrug* It’s probably right.

Here’s what’s not right: they’ve acted like because we don’t need traditional RPG content additions, we don’t need any content and activities at all. That’s just not the case.

There is nothing new and original in any of these genres at a base level, things only seem to be new because they are done in a new setting, presented in a new package, or combined in a new way. Combat and crafting in this game are compared to combat and crafting in other online RPGs. This way the Devs can see how well they are measuring up compared to other games in the genre and adjust accordingly.

Entertainer does not fit in with that mold though. It makes no sense to look to WoW, EQ2, CoH, L2, Guild Wars, and so on to improve this area of the game like it does the others. Instead, Social/Non-Combat games should be compared as a measure of where SWG needs to “step up” for this set.

In a Social/Non-Combat MMO, you don’t complain about “interdependency” or “usefulness.” You are playing the game to have fun with the content that is there equal to everyone else because everyone is a social player – all of the content and tools are provided with social players’ enjoyment in mind.

Speaking of social interaction... Honeewoo, you still owe me a dance from the other night.

What happened last night?! Last I remember is drinking one of those Jawa brews. Next thing I know, I'm waking up really tired and smellinglike chlorinated hot tub water.

Well, I wasn't there...but I heard you had an interesting time. I promise it didn't make the Galaxy Enquirer, but I can be paid hush credits.

As far as game mechanics interactions you are correct, we have almost nothing. Just a minor buff ability.

The only thing left to us is social interaction and role play, we are using the SWG interface as an animated chat room, nothing more.

I don't know about worthless. Our value seems to have been reassigned. Our performances are much more varied and about a thousand times prettier with the addition of breakdance and bunduki as well as revamps on footloose and poplock. We have a ton more flourishes to work with. We now have props and 2 additional lighting effects that help enhance the performance.

What we've lost is the forced interaction with those who have no appreciation for the performance. For those who like a good show we have a lot more tools with which to perform. The coin is still in the air for me, however. I really like having a tie to the combat community and I despise that a master dancer'scombat viability has been so drastically limited.

A lot of folks are against it but I think I'd be thrilled if they reduced the sp cost to zero for all the entertainment proffs. It would more accurately reflect thevalue of the proffession. I think that politicians hold more value at this point than entertainers (they facilitate all city related activities) I don't understand why entertainment and the social tools that come with it should require any sacrifice of combat or crafting ability. So yes, by the measure of combat function and profitability, entertainment is pretty much in the toilet but in the terms of being able to put on a really great performance we have more now than we've ever had.
