My new hero is Wolfmann31, a combatant. He posted in this thread a wonderful beautiful post. The OP complained about how AFK looting was cutting into his gameplay, and Wolfie's response was:

I'm a combatant, just for the record, but I'm also a socializer. the last 2 years, I've lost about everyone I spent my time with when not out there fighting NPC's and players in the galactic war. I've personally seen over 200 entertainers that I knew well on one server alone vanish because they were told to "shut up and learn to play". I've seen players comming to SWG from every MMORPG that was out there when SWG launched, because unlike the other games, they could properly craft or be a social profession. A game that had entertaining, socializing, dancing and music as a profession. This game had a really huge social community, you couldnt find a single cantina in this game, on any server that didnt have LIVE entertainment, by several entertainers really. Even Mos Taike, wich don't have a shuttkle or starport, and you had to pass alot of baddies to get there on foot even, had it's own band.
Then came the hologrind, and the AFK macrotainer was born.

The AFK'ers moved in every place there were live entertainers, offering free, no hassle, no talk, no interaction services. It was beneficcial to the game, the combatant said, and happily used the afk bots while also telling the entertainers to learn how to play efficient if they wanted to "outservice a 24/7" service...
The entertainers moved around, trying to setup shop where there were no afk'tainers, but every time they found a place with no bots, the bots followed them.
The galaxy no longer had use for the social community, they now had the bots.

It didn't take many months of this, with no solutions offered, and forum wars where the mantra "shut up and learn to play" was held high as a banner of "good game" by teh combatants, before we saw what effect this had, as there were a constant stream of entertainers leaving the game. The people I came over to SWG with, from AO, went back to AO, where they RP'ed dancers(No dancer/musician/social profession in AO), and recieved more respect, more tips and was actually aprechiated by the community.

And here we are today, entertainer buffs outside of the basic one, cant be applied by macros, and now combatants and crafters alike has to search every nook and cranny for a live entertainer. Some even have to make appointments hours or days ahead of the "buff". There are no entertainers left, because of what the AFK did to the profession and community.

"Shut up and learn to play"...They learned what was important, they packed their bags and left.

Now, AFK is stepping on the toes of the combatants, and the sky is falling. the same people that held the "AFK is good for the game" banner high is out in the streets yelling for a fix for their stepped on toe.

Unless the solution is to fix AFK play for all and for good, and not just your lil combat world, I'll keep saying "shut up and learn to play".

But my hand is always ready to help those that want this fixed for all.

There are more like him out there but no one listens to them, or to us for that matter. Everything that made SWG unique in the gaming community has been destroyed. SWG is just another console game set in a former MMORPG.

Wolfmann31 has been one of my favorite posters for a long time now. He rocks! And he certainly nailed it down for our reality. I wish it didn't have to get to where combattants complained about unattended play before something gets done about it. But I'm not at all surprised.

We need a hero accolade badge and a new profession accolade badge as the original is tainted with the stink of AFK BuffBot, perhaps a ATK accolade badge.

Yep! He has been one of our most ardent supporters for ... well ... *years* now. He (and all of the Epsilon Stormies I have ever met) continually supports and is friend to Entertainers. /cheer RK!

There is an accolade badge for professionalism and that was awarded to an AFK BuffBot. Few entertainers have received this badge.

Yep. I'm really proud of the one I earned...but it *does* diminish it knowing that an AFK bot has one, too.

That whole post was amazing. At least, his part of it. I felt good and bad at the same time. Good because our feelings were validated by someone not our own and bad for...well...that the post had to be made in the first place.

We really ought to get him to come in here and visit with us. Why isn't he here anyway?
