Thread: No forced interaction??
Umi
They bought into the combatants' griping, is all.
This entire game is fundamentally based off of forced interaction.
But typing, "Hello" is just too much for some people I guess, so they did a deathblow on yet another Entertainer skill.
That entire premise for removing BF is also nonsensical because, well, in order to be an Entertainer, you've gotta entertain someone. This means something needs to draw people to cantinas. That "something" will be some kind of enhancement for some professions, which if it's something they REALLY want, it's FORCING them to come see us, in order to get it.
So, apparently forced interaction with combat people wasn't okay, but forced interaction with non-combat people will be so much better. I'm not fully buying into that, because as soon as the crafters start complaining about being forced into cantinas, we've got no one else to entertain.
You can't make any kind of enhancement without forcing people into interacting with us.
If you make it so it's not really needed, most folks will find it worthless, and we'll have empty cantinas. If you make it too mandatory, people will despise us and be filled with spite, like we've had for a long time now. You can't win, because the Devs have very, very rarely ever found the true middle ground in doing anything - it's usually to extremes.

The term came from us in here, it's not a Dev spin. Please get over it.
I swear to gawd, I've never been a dev fan girl and this constant dev bashing is getting on my nerves. The devs aren't the end all be all, but they also aren't stupid/mean/evil.
They're just some dudes trying to make a fun game for everyone. This is something we asked for and they are trying to see if they can make it work for us.

He didn't say WE can't go to the cantinas. Just that we shouldn't force non-entertainers to come there against their will, using BF or buffs or any other game mechanic that REQUIRES them to visit.
Plus there are theatres, hotels, and entertainer guildhalls. Not to mention randomly attacking a faction base with a performance. "Yes, we're that troupe the Imperial Entertainers Guild promised to send you. What, you didn't get the memo?"
It's a good question, and I want to think about it a bit more before I answer. Off the top of my head, I think that if there was no BF, and nobody came into the cantinas unless they wanted to, I'd still be an entertainer.
Okay I guess now I'm a bit confused. All this time I thought the removal of BF was a decision that had been made by the dev team for various reasons and then "announced" to the correspondents. Now you're saying we, as a community, asked for the removal of BF? Because I try to stay fairly current on the board and I don't remember having discussions about the removal of BF until after it had been announced on the entertainer board by a dev. Or are you saying we as a community pushed for "non-forced interaction" and the result from that is the removal of BF? Because I certainly do remember a lot of those conversations going on and I remember not liking the direction I thought that was going...

When did we ask for BF removal? Did I miss a staff meeting?
*Points at Panthu*
Some former correspondents decided that entertainer was "boring" and told the devs whenever and whereever possible that the community was clamoring to be bards or travelling buff salesmen.
Take a look at the people agresively flaming anyone that is upset at the change and you'll have your answer.
I left approximately 8 months ago and the BF removal issue was in full swing at the time. I was one against the removal of any of our skills at the time and I was very much in the minority. There was a lot of people crying out for changing of our skills. There was plenty of entertainers claiming to be enough of a performer that they didn't need folks forced to them or that they preferred their clientel to be there to see them because they wanted to socializeand not just because they had to. Pointing at Panthu isn't exactly accurate. Just wanted to make that clear. I'm a witness ![]()
I haven't put enough time into the new system right now to claim if this change is good or bad. I've been mostly running around like a nutter. My houses are still miraculously up and all my stuff here. I'm digging through piles of crap getting excited every time I find an old favorite dress or pair of shoes I haven't seen in months. First person I met asked me for an inspiration buff (I was like... I just dance right?).Another guy gave me a new vehicle so I was running around giving random people rides for no reason. Cuz I like to do dumb stuff like that I guess.
Then I started working on updating my Dance Card sheet with the new flourishes and dances its missing. I'll have that up when I can and I'll let you know when its done Panthu ![]()
Reachwind, I ask you again, where have you seen that we are going into battle? Until that happens, I have no idea what you're psycho personal attacks on me are about. The fact is that I didn't say all dancers wanted to be bards in battle and actually pointed out on many occasionsthat the most vocal Ent posters were very against any "Bard" association for us.
Ikewe, I think you started dancing to be a healer, just like I did. I would have been happy being the equal of Doctors and I personally had a hard time with the whole "entertainers aren't healers" thing too. I think this is going to work though. I think it's going to be even better. There is a lot up in the air right now though, so I'm waiting to see how this actually works out too.
Hey, Goldy!! *hugs* Welcome back to the forum!
Eshie's our corr now so let her know when you update so she can change the link in our FAQs. I can't wait to see the new version!
*steals a bite offof Ikewe's cookie*
Who was it who posted in the JTL forum about being available to heal BF from space missions?
Me.
Who was it who spent months dancing alone on Lok, foregoing the XP bonus of grouping to be available to the people doing the Nym and Han Solo quests or using the pilot trainer there?
Me.
Who was it who lobbied to get /register fixed in Core Systems, In Development, and In Concept, and even tried to make a common cause with Doctors on the issue, all so we would be easier to find?
Me.
Who was it who responded to all those "the sky is falling" threads when the CU was on test center by saying "it will be all right, we'll still have Battle Fatigue"?
Me.
I, personally, am not in the biz *only* to be a BF healer, and the final statement of that quote, however old it is, is still true. *I* will still dance after the end of BF. But that doesn't mean I think getting rid of it isn't a bad idea. *I* am not the sum total of the entertainer community. It's not all about me. I care about the community, so I care about what the community cares about.
Also (getting back to the original poster's point), none of this has anything to do with the hypocrisy of the "no forced interaction" statement. Whoever's responsible for it, it's still a load of crap. As the OP pointed out, there are plenty of examples of forced interaction in SWG, some of them newly added and actively supported by the dev team. They just don't involve us.
