Thread: How to make non-looping macros

I sometimes get the impression that some people don't know how to make a macro that doesn't loop. Certainly I've never seen a published macro that didn't end in /macro (macroname).

So I thought I would post how I do non-looping macros, and invite other people to do the same.

/startdance (dance);
/pause 2;
/Flourish x;
/pause y;
/Flourish x;
/pause y;
/Flourish x;
/pause y;
/Flourish x;
/pause y;
/Flourish x;
/pause y;
/Flourish x;
/pause y;
/Flourish x;
/pause y;
/Flourish x;
/pause y;
/Flourish x;
/tell (yourname) Macro's done!

I believe the limit on the number of lines is 20, but I've never actually counted.

The short pause after the stardance command prevents lag from causing the game to miss the first flourish.

The length of the pause after each flourish depends on the length of the flourish. I used Goldy's dance cards for timing, padded with a couple of extra seconds to compensate for lag. In my experience there's not much point in trying to fine-tune the timing; I'm not sure if it's because of my computer, the game server, or the net in between, but lag causes the timing to vary too much.

One thing to be wary of is using /reply. Since you're regularly sending tells to yourself, using /reply to respond to a tell from someone else can get you into trouble. But then, it can do that in other ways, too.

Personally, I prefer to use:

/echo <message>

...instead of sending a /tell to myself. That way, I don't mess up my /reply option... and since I /addignore all the spammers begging for tips/heals/invitations to group, my spatial window isn't too cluttered.

It just prints the text on your screen.

What I've noticed though is you can't go into the chat color options and set it to highlight the echo text to something ( I wanted it to say "BUFF DONE" or soemthing in yellow instead f system message color ).. but I assume (haven't tried it) that you can use .. erm... /echo + \# + the hexidecimal code + text.. to get it to be a specific color, i.e. /echo \#FFFF00 BUFF DONE

/echo is also useful for CHs training pets without spamming people around you, so they can use /tellpet but can still keep track of which commands they've trained

!!

Didnt' think of that one! I do use /tellpet though, for both training and fighting unless it's something where 1) it's so laggy /tellpet doesn't work or 2) people need to know I'm sending pet in.

Spam is icky, both online and off!!

What I've always wanted is for such as %NT to work in group chat, so I could do "/g Sending pet to attack %NT now, plague strike incoming!" and have it work.

er what was the topic here again?

/echo
is what I like to use as well. Also /addalarmin is a great way to give you that audio cue for those times when you are doing a lot of things at once and might miss the echo msg

That's a new one to me...what does /echo <message> do? I too have a problem with the /tell done messing up my replies. But the good thing is the mistells go to me so no chance of getting in trouble.

I have macros like this with all my pet commands... it works for both creature pets and droids. I also have a macro for all my favorite holoemotes:

  • /pause 70;

  • /hol holonotes;

  • /pause 70;

  • /holo hearts;

  • etc (through all of my favorite holoemotes)... and ending:

  • /echo last holo;

I have a pause at the beginning so I can restart the macro immediately when I get the "last holo" message.

Update: having now tried /echo, I am going to stick with /tell. The reason is that it's much more noticiable for me; it gives me two lines of text in Spatial, one of them coloured bright yellow, plus an audio note, all for one single line in the macro.

/reply can still cause trouble, but like I said before, it can get you into trouble anyway, so that's not a reason to not use it.

Also, I was wrong about 20 lines being the maximum. Someone in-game told me the limit is based on the number of characters rather than lines, but they didn't know how many.

I thought you could put all the commands on one line and get around the line limit...at least you USED to be able to.

I also thought you could edit a file in say MS Notepad and there was a way of loading that file as a macro.

I've forgotten how to do this though...

heh, that's why when I use echo, I usually do something like this:

/echo **********done**********

that catches attention

p.s.: mainly because I'd probably be chatting in tells with someone, and echo seems to be the most nondistrupting

Random guess: either 4000ish or 8000ish. A lot of things in game are limited to one of those. Mail lengths, notepad size, biography length, and such.
