Thread: So much hatred for AFKers.
I had to move this to a new thread because people seemed to "overlook" it where it was.
First of all, we all need to sleep...and eat...and go to work or school. Second of all, not all of us want to have to play for an extended period of time to master a single profession. It's rediculous to condemn people for AFK macroing. It's perfectly fair to people that have things to do in thier lives and can't sit on their computer all day, but who also don't want to pay Sony cash any longer than they have to to get a sense of accomplishment from the game.
Youcan bet thatI'm not gonna keep paying for a drawn out boring grind, though there's a lot of other customers who will (EQ, what? :smileysurprised
. I'm going to do what I can toachievesomethingand make the game feel likeit's worth continued playing, not just a second job where someone else is getting paid. So far, SWG has been really good in this sense.

Hmm let me see if I understand this, the game is too boring to play so I will pay sony to let the game play itself. Now with all the time you saved by not playing the game one would think you could come up with a less idiotic use of your new found free time then posting this crap and then when peopel politly ignore it you REpost it?!
I did not say the game was boring, and thank you for your immature insults. What I said, was that if I didn't spend a good five days AFK macroing (and a good five nights of attended macroing), then I'd probably have to trudge througha fewmonths of a monotonous "second job" to Master the profession.
I also think that if you really want to stop people like me from doing AFK macroing, you should be crying to the devs about the rates and amounts of experience. As opposed tocrying about the amount of work you paid to go through only to feel ripped off because you wasted that much of your free time when it only took me a week.
The people you should be mad at are the ones you're paying, not the other players. Who, like you, are trying to play a game and have some fun.
Maybe you enjoy paying money to have the same monotonous experience everytime you play for four months to Master Dancer. I certainly don't.
Hm, lets see... YOU enjoy paying money for
1) a class you don't like (monotonous)
2) a game you don't play (an afk macro plays for you)
Makes perfect sense.

Nobody owes you a master title. You aren't entitled to one simply because you pay a subscription fee. Did you skip school on the day they covered work ethics? You get out of something what you put in, but for some reason there's a huge segment of people in this game who want something for nothing and believe they deserve exactly that. The problem is, since the slackers are so visible and so numerous, the rest of us who actually do the work for fun and profit get lumped in with you.
Here's a little analogy. You wake up early in the morning, you shower, change clothes, and the go to work. You do your best, putting in a solid nine hours of productivity, and then you go home. You do this for a year, and are rewarded with a nice Christmas bonus for your effort. Ralph, on the other hand, usually skips work. He calls in sick, then goes to see a movie or two. He sticks his head into the office to say hi to his friends from time to time, but usually he's nowhere to be found. At the end of the year, Ralph gets a nice Chrismas bonus. This is why nobody likes Ralph. This is why people want to beat Ralph about the head and shoulders with a two-week-old loaf of french bread and squirt lemon juice in his eyes.
While SWG is just a game, it is nevertheless an extension of reality. Ethics are still applicable here. If you see nothing at all unethical about unattended macroing, then I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree. I can't prevent you from afkmacroing, and you can't prevent me from /ignoring you. Odds are that we wouldn't have liked each other anyway, though, so it's not like either of us is missing much. Such is life.
It's perfectly fair to people that have things to do in thier lives and can't sit on their computer all day, but who also don't want to pay Sony cash any longer than they have to to get a sense of accomplishment from the game.
OK... so by your own reasoning, as I have a job and better things to do, it's ok if I dupe some credits, because I enjoy being rich and want to skip the "earn it" part ? I don't want to pay Sony so I can earn credits. I want to pay Sony to have credits. Lets go dupe some...
I agree with you, somewhat, in principal, but seriously...

I suppose I fail to see why this thread warrants a repeat. I don't think it was "overlooked." It was blatantly ignored by people who have heard all the "justifications."

What sense of accomplishment are you getting from the game if you don't play it?
Is it the sense of accomplishing a workable code within 5 minutes? I can practice coding for less than $15 a month. Is it the sense of accomplishing the mastery of a profession that you find boring? Um, sure, don’t we all strive to be the very best at something we hate? Is it the sense of accomplishing the status of Lamer Away From Keyboard? People laugh at the AFK macro folks. I do it. My patrons do it. Do you want to be comic relief that enjoys being slapped and spit on because you won’t even notice? Then, congratulations. You have achieved that goal
Youcan bet thatI'm not gonna keep paying for a drawn out boring grind, though there's a lot of other customers who will (EQ, what? :smileysurprised
.
Or you could pay for a game that you can play. If you don't enjoy dancing, then don't do it. Pick up a gun or a crafting tool and do something that you do enjoy.

I'm amazed that you feel you have achieved something by doing nothing. The best quote I've heard was a few months agoin these forums: If you don't find dancing interesting now, then you'll be sorely disappointed when you reach Master.
Save yourself the grief. Quit dancing now. You're only going to reach the pinnacle and realize you hate being a Master just as much as being a Novice. Do you think that something amazing happens when you reach Master? Will you suddenly enjoy talking with other people and helping them relieve their wounds? Highly doubtful. Save your skill points for a profession that appeals to you.
Do you know the best part about Dancer/Musician not being a power class? Only those who enjoy the profession stick it out. The others are too flighty or greedy to hang around. They might reach Master, but they leave once they find out there is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The true entertainers already know that the rainbow itself is a pot of gold.
On a completely DIFFERENT note.... or not....
Wasn't it covered that unattended play (Which would be anything where your character is doing anying besides sitting or standing idle- be it dancing, crafting, killing etc) Is against the rules? Wasn't that covered?
AFK macroing is a violation of the rules and warrents banning.
Me, I would report every single person I see who has been dancing for extended periods of time into a wall saying the same thing over and over.
Success comes with WORK, not with cheating the system. AFK macroing is essentially cheating to get to your goal and... gee.... people don't like cheaters right? So now do you understand why we don't like them? READ THE OTHER POSTS
I agree with the analogy about the guy who gets a good bonus for not going to work. We worked hard to get where we are. To see some upstart without the pride to actually be at the keyboard for their job or customers is infuriating. What do you do if a waitress seats you at your table... then doesn't ever come to take your order?
For goodness sake, show some pride in your profession.
