Thread: A fun little anecdote
I see this level 1 with no title or guild come in and start doing the basic dance. I figure she is new (and I think she was) and so I invite her, figuring she would clearly not get an invite from the AFKers. She joins the group and immediately the following conversation occurs in group chat (names changed to protect the not-so-innocent, lol).
Newb: hi
Dejah: Hello
Newb: do u know the flourish macro?
Now, I think we all know what "the flourish macro" means -- it is shorthand for "The looping macro that will let me maximize my XP gain while being AFK." But I decided to play dumb.
Dejah: The flourish macro?
Newb: Yep
Dejah: Which one?
Newb: The dancing one
Dejah: To do what?
Newb: flourish!
Still playing dumb, I responded...
Dejah: You can flourish in any order so I am not sure I understand what you mean.
Newb: nvm
The newbie then went AFK (as far as I could tell)... without flourishing, so we all know what that means, LOL...
Now, maybe the newbie realized I was an anti-AFKer at that point, or maybe the newb thought I too was a newb (though I always have my M.Ent. title up) and didn't know, or something... not sure. If she had said, "the AFK flourishing macro" I would have said, "Sorry, I don't know it" because, honestly, I don't have any macros that will let me flourish non-stop while AFK... all my songs and dances are under 7 minutes and then stop. But we never got that far.
Anyway, I just thought I would share.

But for a novice entertainer who has seemingly not even given the profession a CHANCE to ask this... it's sad in a way. She didn't just ask me "How do you AFK?" or "How do you get more XP?" She asked me for "the" macro... in other words, there is a perception that there is one particular, functioning macro, and if you just DL and install it on your system (as it were) you're all set.
It's a rather sad commentary on what's happened to our profession, really.

That is something I did not consider... write a huuuuuge long macro that is essentially correct, except, hidden within its depths, have a /quit command, something like this....
/startdance basic2
/pause 5; /flo 1;
/pause 16; /flo 2;
/pause 14; /flo 3;
/smile; /say Please tip me if you get a heal, thanks.;
/changedance basic;
/pause 5; /flo 1;
/pause 16; /flo 2; /quit;
/pause 14; /flo 3;
Then when people ask you for it you can e-mail it to them and say, "Paste it AS IS... make no changes or else it may not work!!"
LOL...

Now, That Rocks!

I choose the 2-3 that seem the most "vibrant" (not sure how to describe it) for the chorus. This is often, but not always, 7, 8, and one other, frequently 5 or 6. Let's say, for a given song, it is 6-7-8. I will then choose either to have just a "verse" one, which will be the other 5, or a "verse" and a "bridge", which will be 3-4 for the verse, 1-2 for the bridge. Example: 1-2-4 for verse. 3-5 for bridge. Then I will make a song like so in an alias file (call it mysong.txt)
mysong: /mysongstart mysongv mysongch mysongv mysongch mysongbr mysongch mysongend
mysongstart: /echo ** STARTING MYSONG **; /startmusic (tune goes here); /pause 12;/
mysongend: /echo ** ENDING MYSONG ** ;
mysongv: /flo 1; /pause 6; /flo 2; /pause 6; /flo 4; /pause 6; /flo 1; /pause 6; /flo 2; /pause 6; /flo 4; /pause 12; /
mysongch: /flo 6; /pause 6; /flo 7; /pause 6; /flo 8; /pause 6; /flo 6; /pause 6; /flo 7; /pause 6; /flo 8; /pause 12;/
mysongbr: /flo 3; /pause 6; /flo 5; /pause 6; /flo 5; /pause 6; /flo 3; /pause 12;/
In this case, "mysongv" stands for the verse (v), "mysongch" for the chorus (ch), and "mysongbr" for the bridge (br). I just write each one (verse, chorus, bridge) once, and then append them in the "mysong" line. Note that because every alias ends with a "/" character, I can append them without it, so "/mysongstart mysongv" is correct grammar, because at the end of mysongstart is a ";/" sequence. When "inflated" this alias becomes
/mysongstart mysongv = "/echo ** STARTING MYSONG **; /startmusic (tune goes here); /pause 12; /" + mysongv
= /echo ** STARTING MYSONG **; /startmusic (tune goes here); /pause 12; /mysongv
This is repeated on through the sequence. The nice thing about this is that it is so much more readable (to me at least) and if I want to mix and match on the fly I can easily type something like:
/mysongch mysongv mysongv mysongbr mysongbr
at the command line and I am all set.

OK, I'm a noob entertainer and want a macro that loops so that I can enjoy chatting and RP'ing and not have to bother setting my macro every 10 mins or so and I get this macro from an experienced player. My thoughts on finding out what the macro did would only make me distrust entertainers, This id freifing to do this and is totally against my philosophy of encouraging and helping anyone new.
This is just taking advantage of someone new that you dont even know and is pretty lame and shows you to be an untrustwirthy and deceitful person
Hmmmmm if it’s way too much of a hassle to press non-looping macro every 10 min or so …. I’m totally at a lost then.
And actually you can write even longer non-looping macro, so maybe you could be bothered to press single key only once every 20 minutes? or 30?
Giving a zombie-wanna-be sabotaging macro may not be the nicest thing to do, but I would do it in a heartbeat, the way I look at it, it’s like helping out the whole cantina, they gonna finally go LD and shut the hell up with degrading/annoying spam. If a zombie self-destructs, it’s one zombie less to listen to, to add on /ignore, to add to the server lag, to give a game bad name. Maybe if we do get rid of some zombies the rest of the gaming world will stop calling this game The Empire AFK.
