Thread: The only way left to save the Entertainer professions

If, and I say if, nothing is done to stop AFKing, buffbots, etc., then I think we are left with only one solution in order to save the Entertainer, Dancer and Musician professions.

There arejust going to have to be Entertainer Councils.

I propose a system by which there are two Councils: A Light Entertainer Council and a Dark Entertainer Council. To be a Light Entertainer, you simply play the game. To be a Dark Entertainer... well, polish up those recursive macros. Admission to the Light Entertainer Council will be by a vote of the Light Entertainers on quality of performance, engaging personality and interpersonal skills, judicious use of wardrobe/props/effects, and other qualitative benchmarks as deemed appropriate by the Light Entertainer community. Admission to the Dark Entertainer Council will be by... err... I'm not really sure how they'd go about this since they're AFK. Maybe they can fight?

Dancer Entertainers will have specialitems called jewelry that can be crafted by the dancer from loot components, andonce claimed by the dancer, will not work for anyone but the dancer who claimed it. Similarly, Musician Entertainers will have equipment called instruments that must be "tuned"... once tuned by a Musician, the instrument can only be played by that Musician.

Naturally, one cannot be an Entertainer under the proposed system unless one unlocks their special and coveted Entertainer Slot.

I envision that implementation of this should take all development resources away from the rest of the game for at least 2 publishes. I'm sorry about that, but the amount of work really needed to implement this would be pretty staggering.

Discuss.

Well, actually Miss Smarty-Pants, I do think we should lift some things from the Jedi... they only have certain times of the day when they can challenge for a council spot... When I was testing Jedi on TC2 I just kept thinking, "wow, that's how we should do it!"

The whole reason it's like that is so it can be a big event... well, if we could give 8 hour buffs or something crazy like that, but only at certain times of the day and only in certain locations, that might bring in more people and we could have a big event. Maybe we could do it at the Theaters and it would be an Area Buff that everyone in the general area could receive.

I also think having a real Council with voting like the Jedi have would be cool for us... but it would need to be more like a "High Society Club" kind of thing. It should most likely be tied to new Abilities that would allow Event Scheduling and Promo Tools. Sort of a Media Mogul kind of thing. Sort of like when QA or the Devs have an Event on TC.

I also don't necessarily mind having to quest to be an Ent, I think we shouldn't have to sacrifice Skill Points then though. *shrug* I think it jives with the whole "time investment" plan and would work very nicely.

Well as I have yet to see the rating system for the TC quests I'm not sure if they could use them... But it would be interesting to see if they could expand on that ranking later. Ya know then we could have like Super Stars on the servers. People with just really high rank would be sought out for performing. NOT for buffing but for entertaining. Those lower well they would need to fight a bit hard to get up there and take the top spots... Hmmm aka maybe top 10 would get some sort of +10 to mind enhancement or something. Only problem would then be that I think it likely people would vote the butt bots all the way up so they could get better buffs. But on the upside we could try and vote them down and put others in their place... *shrugs*

I still say Ents should get perma death. 3 deaths in a weeks time and your character gets all skills and xp set to 0.

I call Dark Entertainer Overlady just so I can purge the entire Dark Entertainer side of AFKers, then I'll switch back over to the light side and have fun.

Also, the way the Dark Entertainer afkers can advance is by macro dueling. First they grief, I mean invite, themselves into a group then macro spam each other, the one that doesn't crash out advances.

Naturally, one cannot be an Entertainer under the proposed system unless one unlocks their special and coveted Entertainer Slot.

Does that mean I have to visit the Jedi board to beg for a macro to finish their lame profession so I can spend my time on something worthwhile ?

No. History has proven that the appropriate method of extracting the macros from other professions boards is not to beg, but rather to demand. Anyone who thinks otherwise are just "whiny".

I'm very glad that the entertainer community is contributing to this very important thread. I'll try to respond as best I can.

I think they should reintroduce blue glowies!

You may have blue glowies in the New Entertainer Revamp (previously called the Only Way Left to Save the Entertainer Professions). Under the Entertainer Revamp, these will be available from Image Designers in convenient rechargable emitters, for a reasonable (yet market driven) fee.

Also, a Light Entertainer perkshould be Hawtpants!

We've had meetingsto discussthis for the last week, and we'll have a meeting next week to think abouttalking aboutit.

Oh, and Deila? Are you married?

The New Entertainer will be an exciting new type of profession in MMO gaming. It will be either a social based profession where players interact with other players, or will be several lines of code that will perform all of the same core functions without the disturbing and frighteningpressures of interacting with other players.

I'm here to serve.

Your concept is novel, Deila, groundbreaking even..revolutionary. So how should we compensate the entertainer community? How shall we enable them to compete in a player-based economy driven by kill-stealers and loot-mongers?
