Ok

I read that to teach an L3 ability you have to train the L1 and L2 ability

So does that mean to tein the L3 you must firt train the other two and it assumes the same ability slot?

Or does it mean you train L3 directly and iit checks to make sure you have L1 and L2?

Or does the training of L1,L2 and L3 of the same ability take up 3 total slots?

It's my understanding that each level uses a slot, and the creature (not just you) must know L1 before training it L2, and L2 before training it L3. So if you have a creature with 9 open slots, you could give it more flexibility by training in9 different abilities, or 3 abilities up to L3. It's a variety vs. power trade-off.

Of course, that's based solely on reading the forum, I currently onlyknow 4 different abilities, all L1.

That is what I have seen to be correct.

I read there is only 4 slots available, is that correct?

There are a maximum of 4 on CL1 - CL10 creatures.

Higher CL pets should have an increased number of Trainable Abilites Slots. Itis not 100% known at what CL a pet gains additional Trainable Ability Slots.

I think we need a dev response on this.

If higher level pets do not have a higher number of slots then this is an issue that will determine for many if the grind is worth the work.

4 slots is not much if each level of a single ability takes a slot on a high level pet

Here is a quuote from Keldarin's post, in the In Testing - Dev forum

As a pet matures they will gain Ability "Slots" and Training Points to learn new Pet Abilities. You can see the progress to the next maturity level on the Pet Control Device under the heading "Training XP". This will show you the current amount of XP earned and the total amount of XP required to reach the next maturity level. Experience is earned by fighting opponents. At each maturity level your pet will grow in size as well gain Training Points and possibly Ability Slots. Ability Slots will not be earned at each maturity level but likelihood of earning one will increase as a pet reaches full maturity. Pets will continue to Ability Slots until they have earned the maximum possible for their level and they will continue to earn Training Points until they have been fully trained.

Sounds like it's a dice roll then

So all individual pets might be different

I never read it that way, but you might be right. I just hope higher level pets get a higher base number before that dice is rolled. I wonder now if there will be an inherent difference in the number of abilities wild and BE pets will have. I wonder if BE will eventually have some say in this number.

I don't think so, because it still says in that same quote later on that a pet will continue to earn ability slots until it has the full number allowed for it's level.

I guess I'm just extremely lucky, my main pet that I've been using to help me kill things to find babies has gotten 5 XP rollovers, and the first 4 of them all granted an ability slot.

I had a level 43 roll 3 times and no slot yet

We need to know the answer so we can correctly go to the dev's if needed, becuase good specials are required for pvp and if we have to use a lot of slots
like this we need to make sure the higher level pets have more than 4
