Thread: OK, this is utterly stupid. Why should I even be surprised?

OK, I've finally gotten PART of the hang of this specials system. You have tofightwith the critter for a while to learn the special. That part I understand.

But there are serious problems.

If I'm grouped with the pet, it gets 1 XP if the target is a grey con. If I'm NOT grouped with it, the pet gets a more reasonable amount of XP, based on the critter vs. prey level disparity.

But I can't harvest the target then. This is a totally new bug. Even though I'm the master of the pet, if I'm not grouped with it, I can't harvest its kills. This is the opposite of the old "the pet eats the kill" bug that happened when you were grouped with it.

Oh, and BTW, I'm currently tanking, WITHOUT FAIL, for a hermit spider (baby). I don't attack, the targets (which happen to be hermit spiders) come after me. Not a problem, but utterly stupid.

Pets dont seem to "taunt" much at all unless they have that particular ability. Without it they have to do alot of dmg before you attack the enemy in order to maintain any "tanking"..

The only real problem I have is that if my pet is attacking an enemy and it has a friend, the friend comes right for me even if I have not attacked yet.

I understand tying pet Hate to the owner to some extent but the "first and highest agro" rule needs to apply. First Pet or Player to get agro should keep agro until someone else takes "agro generating" actions against that enemy. If I shoot that enemy or heal my pet I would take the risk of gaining enough agro.. otherwise they need to stick to the pet.

I was getting that too, agro after agro. so I pulled out a be pet that has a 3.9% agro bonus to it, and I didn't get agro even once. I tried not attacking... no agro, I tried attacking... still no agro... But, when I didnt' use that pet with the agro bonus, I got smacked around every time.

Fyi...

I did read the sticky.

Any mention of the obviously overlooked issue of harvesting the kills?

I am not at all surprised that the slacker devs, amateur as they are, missed this.

So I finally got to log on. My experiences so far:

I spent 30 minutes before coming across a creature. A lone sharnaff (not tamable). Moving on, I find a wrix and durni lair. No babies with tapping. Moving a little further, I find a grand wrix baby. Alright, finally! It's a decent level and maybe I can get a special out of it.

"You can't tame that"

Between not being able to find creatures, much less babies, and then being told I can't tame it, I am not happy.

Be sure to tank for your pet and you should be able to harvest the kill. You have to do some damage to get kill harvest rights btw. I dont know how much damage. ( If you are a crafter in your other profession. Then you are going to have trouble )

I never had to so much as LIFT A FINGER to get harvesting/looting rights when using my pets to go after a target before this publish.

NOW it's like they're another player. Whoever does the most damage gets the rights.

This isn't a problem, really, when I'm sending my current grinding pet, a level 4 hermit spider against a level 7 rabid shaupaut, where I let it get in the intital hit (the eye gouge special) and then one shot kill the shaupuat with my DL44. I get looting rights. But why is it that the old behavior of pets out of the group has been destroyed? When I'm sending the little spider in against chubas, it two hits them usually before I get a chance to shoot. The pet's damage ALWAYS counted as my damage before. Why this change?

Because someone didn't check their work, that's why.

And didn't care enough to check it.

During the entire time that I was testing, I only ran into this issue twice, where it stuck. A quick log reset it both times.

There is a bug where the baby does not list as being tamable. This appears to be a server border issue.

Its actually not a damage issue. It looks like it is an issue that popped up with the group XP changes that were pulled. Group XP issues have popped up all over the place. The sticky lists part of the cause of the issue.

I didnt have any problem taming but why as a master CH I should have to try training the same command more than 3 times is beyond me. Twice on diff pets took 4 times for the little idiot to learn the command. They were lvl 17 and lvl 20!!

Well the rest of my playing time went fairly well. I have 3 pets im working on. Still going to take a very long time...........

I quick relog did not work for me. I had to go out of the game for twenty plus minutes. I was able to tame after that and had more success finding creatures from then on. It was still a very poor start when I was already wary about the changes. The rest of the day was better, although I've still only had a few hours to try things out.
