What does this mean? For instance, suppose a creature has light armor and 20% "effectiveness" resists across the board, and another creature has light armor and 20% "special protection" kinetic, and 20% "effectiveness" resists for all the rest. What's the difference in practical terms? Is

Buggy boards.
Is there a difference between "effective" and "special"? Is there any point to having a "special protection" category?

that just means that the resists in special won't go up if you get an effectiveness slice on the animal.
an encumberance slice is a whole different story, however.

... slice? I have a feeling that was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, as I believe that's how "special" works in regards to player armor (though I have no personal experience with armor of course, at least until next patch). But please, if I should be handing my deeds to a smuggler before taming them, let me know.

No, you can't slice pets.
Effectiveness is the typical resists the pet will have, you will notice that everything under that heading will have the same percentage of protection.
Special Protections are the damage types that the pet has a better or worse chance to defend against. It can be better or worse then the effectiveness but they are essentially the same, they both stand for the resistances the pet has.
Vulnerablities just means the attack will by-pass the armour or if there is no armour it does extra damage.

That's basically how I figured it. But then I noticed some peculiarities in some pets that made me wonder if there might be more to it. Specifically, look at the stats on a graul mauler. Why are the "effective" resists 20%, and only two of them, whereas there are three "special" resists with the same 60% rating? Granted, that could just be some geek in a cubicle punching in numbers without regard to consistency, but it made me wonder enough to post.

as there are looted and crafted clothing which do conatin skill helpful skillmods.
