welcome to the fold
off the start not much difference in any natural pets at novice so use whatever you want for tanking xp
tanking xp = just have your pet take 1 bite out of a target and you finish it off for full xp.
when you get to lvl 15+ in skill mods try a cowardly gurreck on endor for tanking.
at lvl 25 i highly recommend a boar wolf on endor they have great stats and at master ch I still use them.
there is said to be a sweat spot for tanking xp around lvl 20 so ingrinding xp you may not want to use a pet in the upper lvl's when you are able, best to use weaker pets for larger xp.
BE pets also may help if you find some with the right stats at the lvl you can use. keep in mind kin resistance is very important and I personally would not purchase a BE pet unless kin resistance was 50+. the cap is 60 on kin for BE pets.
as far as taming xp goes at nov just run around cities on naboo, tat, correllia and tame evrything in site that you can. and teach them whatever you can. usually you get around 100 xp per tame and command taught and these areas are filled with low lvl babies. I used to tame a baby then use him to tank evrything around me, then release him and find another.
please remember that taming/training is good xp as you go up the skill trees and your pet storage is limited so always try and keep at least one free space in your datapad/storage for taming/training.
One other peice of advice, the grind can be long but dont rush to grind xp lol yea easier said than done but ch is a very cool/fun profession and traveling the planets looking for possible pets is what I have found most rewarding. you will be surprised how much you will learn about creatures, spawns, and yourself hehe just taking your time and enjoying the profession.
Good Luck
and Enjoy

greetings
When grinding ch in todays system I recommend deciding on a template before starting. For example in addition to Master CH pick your second profession whether it be riffleman or bio engineer.
Here are some of the best templates
Master riffle/ master ch, ranger with track 3
Master tk/ master ch/ ranger with track 3
Master CH/ Master bio
Starting out
I would recommend getting a very good lvl 10 bio pet togrind the first row of lvl 1 boxes. If possible try to group with other players who are attacking large game such as rancors as u can get a lot of xp quickly.
Its when u get to cl 25 when u can tamebetter creatures such as the boar wolf of endor or the Greater Sludge panther of Talus. As u go up would recommend Riverside Sulfer mynock once u get to cl 33 and lvl 50tame battlelord, webmaster, and of course the rancor.
Also make sure to get afull set of bio clothes with +25 for taming.
