After a 6 month break I've returned to the game, and respecc'ed back to MCH MCH was my 1st profession, and I simply loved it. Over the months this was combined with Rifles and laterly Swords, then TKM. I dropped the CH skills last year because I simply wasn't using my pets. I could stand in the middle of a Rancor lair, and there'd simply be a pile of dead Rancors in a very short period of time.
During my MCH time, I spend hour upon hour on endor, trying for Deathheads, Widows and Screechers, and was only successful in capturing a Screecher baby., which I kept in my data pad, long after the CH skills were dropped.

So,like I say, I'm back, respecced to MCH, Ranger tracking and a some TK skills, I have to say I'm simply loving it. The CU has made it where I have to think about what I'm doing, instead of simply charging in, and I need my pets. So it works for me !

Then after a week of doing lairs on Endor , I finally got my Widow baby. I don't really care, if its a less formidable pet, or even if its less rare now. I have finally got something I'd been after since my early days as a CH.
It was actually a scary moment. very scary. When the dots popped on the radar , and one dot stayed yellow, I realised the significance. The other dot was a queen, and once the baby and the queen had some distance between them , I despatched my pair of cats, to take care of the queen. Unfortunately in the heat of the moment, I mis-targeted, and sent the cats onto a nearby warren. This sent a multitude of blooming jax after me. oh what a nightmare ! Not sure if its a bug, but I couldn't call the cats off the jax lair, so I had to finish the lair, and all the jax that spawned, as I daren't run too far away from the widow baby. When this was done, I at last turned my attention to the widow baby. 1st attempt failed, and resulted in the baby turning agro on me. I ran away, and eventualy it gave up the chase. I turned and followed it back to the lair. The next 7 taming attempts failed, then finally I got those magic green letters. woo hoo !

Welcome back and congrats on your new pet.

Get used to your pets not following commands, such as calling them off lairs. If you do actually get them to come back to you, keep an eye on them because they will sneak back and attack the lair again. You also risk "breaking" the pet if you call it off a target before the target is dead. The pet cannot be commanded to attack other targets. They become spectators.

The pet AI is botched to put it mildly. If they would fix the AI, the creature handler profession would be a lot of fun. Combine a working AI with the new "special abilities" patch and creature handler could be a ton of fun. I hope for everyone the developers fix the pet mechanics soon.

Yes welcome back. You will need to keep a very tight leash on your pets and dont send them against a lair. Even then don't be too surprised if they sometimes ignore you and act as if they don't know who you are.
