Go here and download the profccalc Clicky
With MCH/MBE takes 198 skill points leaving you 52 SP's left which enough to get merchant 0-0-0-4 but the only combat skills you will have will be from your pets.

I may well be wrong but I believe BE gives CL rating. If that is the case, and if you have the cash - or can make it from harvester sales etc, I suggest you try grinding your way up in BE first to get to CL54 with Master BE. Then you can use an Advanced Laser Rifle (one of the best weapons in the game, and only requiring CL54 for certification), and you can begin to grind up your CH side to get to CL80. It might expensive to grind up a crafting profession but it might be a lot faster this way.
I am told you can get decent CH experience by letting the pets do the final kill on a lair solo, but I haven't tried it myself, only ever being a respec CH. I loved it though, and should have stayed as one
I tried this combination during CU respec period and to be honest it was a bewildering amount of stuff to learn all at once. BE is *complex*, and the combination should be enjoyable and challenging to say the least. You may feel a tad weak in combat due to not having a combat profession that provides pluses to your weaponskills.

BE is not a crafting profession not a combat so at MBE you will be about CL8 from the scout/medic profession requirements.

So what should I do? Would it be quicker to grind Master Carb. (even though I'd just drop it forBE after reaching MCH) to get my CL up so that I get more xp per creature, or just keep grindingCH at 1000 xp per creature?

MBE only gives you CL 17.

I recently started a new toon with the hopes of being MCH/MBE/ with some Merchant (so I can sell some of my creatures/tissues/etc.) While grinding scout xp in hunting groups, i figured I might as well pick upa bit ofcombat profession toget up my CL and so that I would be able todefend myself. So right now, I'm a CL 21 Master Marksman and Novice Carbineer. After gettingnovice in CH and BE, and started to grind CH xp in hunting groups. I was only getting around 1600 per lvl 80 Bol since my CL was so low; and that would take forever (I might as well FS grind).
Any advice on what I should do? I dont want to grind Master Carb. only to drop it once I get CH, but I also dont want to work my way up the CH tree at 1k per creature.
Thanks in advance

Get into a group with a cl80 send in your pets and you stand there and watch DO NOT ATTACK let your pets attack then all the exp will be ch exp 5K+ if grouoped with a cl80.

You're probably splitting your XP between Creature Handler and weapons XP. When hunting in a good group, try only sending your pet in to attack, not even shooting at all yourself. You should get about 4500 or more CH XP per kill. But if you start shooting, that is split in accordance with the amount of damage you do relative to your pet.
Likewise, if you use Medic skills and heal either yourself, your pet, or another player attacking your target while you're in combat, that's another XP split -- this time, bleeding off a portion of the XP into Medic.
