hmm i was under the impression that the first time i was doing CH that's how it worked.... guess it's changed since thennow i wish i hdn't focused my 1st 3 skill boxes on management... oh well, 3 down anyway.
Yeah, it used to work that way... each pet got it's own xp, so you could esentially double your intake. But it was changed awhile back. Now there is some sort of average between the two.
Take note that all it takes is having two pets out to make it work this way, so even a non fighting mount will lower you xp.

The answer may be in the way experience is actually earned in the game. I have always been under the impression that a major factor in determining how much experience you earn has to do with the percentage of overall damage you do. Now keeping in mind that i believe there is a cap determined by the creature level. SO... your level 10 creature earns you more exp than the lvl 3 because he is dong more damage. However, your lvl 10 creature PLUS the level 3 creature are earning less exp overall because each are doing a lower percentage of OVERALL damage, than a single creature alone would do. Say 1 creature doing 100% of damage earns 200 exp. It may be that creature 'A' doing 75% of the damage will earn 140exp while creature 'B' doing 25% of the damage will earn 40 exp.
It is not so much a matter of how much experience the mob is worth, it has more to do with how tough your the mob is for your group to kill it. Two pets doing damage at the same time make it easier to kill the mob than 1 creature alone, thus more exp earned for the single creature.
Keep in mind that there are caps on how much CH exp a creature can learn depending on the creature's level, the mob's level, and the difference between the creature's and mob's levels.
Heres another 2 vs 1 question...
Whats the point of having a lvl 70 pet when you have more damage, more ham and more specials with 2 lvl 35 pets? I might make this a new thread...

I think some people like to only worry about controlling one pet.... But I prefer two most times when I am doing serious hunting. The combined HAM, and damageon two good 30 something pets ismore than any single pet I have come across.

I have to back Shaylin on this one. Two pets will typically give you more HAM, more total damage, and if one of your pets gets knocked down you still have the other to bash the target around until the first gets back up.
About the only reason to use one pet is if your normal attacking pairs are healing up or if you want to pull a "status" pet out (like your Great Plains Stalker or Bull Rancor) just for show.

There's also a large difference in whether you use Bio-Engineered pets or tamed in the wild pets. With wild pets, at least, you typically cannot get "good" resists or light armor with an evenly matched pair of pets.
Also keep in mind that while you may have more total HAM between them, you're also splitting that HAM into two entities. If the enemy focuses on a single pet, they can often take it down muchfaster than they could with a single large pet. With only one weaker pet left, you'll be operating at a handicap for the remainder of the battle (as well as risk vitality loss in the pet that incapped).
Correct, you should make it a separate thread and its a valid point. I think the devs once said a lvl 70 pet should be MORE powerful than 2 lvl 35 pets, but its still actually quite the opposite give the game mechanics of today.
