I am doing CH as my 23rd profession on my path to Jedi. I have done my research so I wont ask the basics. I tamed myself 2 baby cupas. I had my friend teach them ranged attack, command "ra". So I am a TKA and want to tank while my baby hits from a distance in the back. However I can not get ranged to work All my pet wants to do is regular melee attack. Thank you for your time!

get yourself a level 12 pet like a kaadu. Then have the pet attack and after the first hit, then you step in and kill the mob. Yard trash outside of of major cities works well for this and you can get 10-14k per hour this way till you get a couple boxes.

Another option that works well is get in a hunting group on dant and wait till the mobs are engaged, then send in your pet, you'll still get full xp for the mob and it will add up fast. If you can, get yourpet buffed, it will be able to handle combat MUCH better when buffed. Just don't store it or the buff will disappear.

Thanks. However my question still stands.. How can I get ranged attack to work? I am a TKA I want to be the tank while my pet uses ranged attack from a distance. My friend trained it the command but it doesnt seem to work Do they have to be grown to work?

Also if I am a TKA would it be best for me to keep a very low level pet like a Cupa, wont I get more xp with a low level pet vs a high level mob ? Thanks !!

Buff food for your pets is available but I haven't heard how it works yet.

There is a known bugg with the ranged attack command. My BE pets tend to do more ranged attack with it turned on, but they still don't attack all the time.

as far as pet xp, it seems to be a sliding scale as to what gives you the best xp. Much depends on what you fight. With a cl10 pet yard trash was giving me 100xp per kill. With a cl21 pet I could get 840 per hunter voritor. Personally I would get a level 10-12 and then each box you get step up the pet till you get a mid twenties pet and use that for your leveling. That seems to be a general agreement for pet XP. They don't need to be ranged, just run it and hit the mob, very gently in your case to get the attack, then have the pet hit it once, then kill it. In my case I used a spraystick and would oneshot the mob after my pet attacked. Then after I got a couple boxes, I got bigger pets and went after bigger game.

One more question : Since I am a TKA I can tank fairly well. Given that would I get more xp using a baby cupa vs a cowardly gurek vs a tough mob like a mutant baz nitch... Please let me know, Im still a little confused as to how the xp works. Thanks so much for your help !

I feel your pain... I can look at this from both sides... My main character is a Master CH and was such before the NERF hit. Then I decided to holo grind with my ATL and low and behold guess what I get for my first Holo. lol CH. There are so many bugs with this profession.. I am also a TKM with my other character / best thing is if you have to go solo is to do the small trash kills outside of cities and for a change of pace every now and then take on some harder stuff.. have your pet wait you begin to attack and then send your pet. You will be getting the brunt of the attack.

Good Luck.... Thanks to the NERF those 686000 XP points needed for Master seem really hard now.

Naff hunts got me a long way, I was a compete beginner though, I tamed a carrion spat and it got me to 2 2 2 2 in CH, had weapon skill at novice so no soloing. Bought a BE level 20 kwi with 45% kinetic and he is still going strong, gets 420 of a normal naff and 560 of a bull. He has tanked rancors in a 2 man group me and a master carbineer, he can tank two bull naffs while i finish em. Great little pet. As someone who already has a master combat prof it should very easy, just solo what you normally solo and rack in the exp. A pet like mine is great - low level so max exp and good ham and some kinetic and he wont be incapped very often, unlike me with a combat prof that is lagging behind my ch level. With TKM a level 10 spat would get you max exp on anything you fight, get a tough little BE pet and you'll have a tougher pet with only a slight drop in exp. for example Level 10 spat 600 off a bull naff and level 20 560, if your doing the tanking absolutely no probs what ever.

I found I was getting most of my CH xp by camping lairs of durni (and later crazed durni). They tap well if you're careful and spit out spawns for hours. I'd have my pet go in and make the attack then I'd call them off and finish off the critter myself. Pets still seem to get full xp as long as they make a single successful attack (Misses and counterattacks don't count) unlike player combat where you get xp based on how much damage you did during the fight.

I'm grinding CH for my 26th prof, and this is what I've found so far (2.2.2.3 in CH atm)

The best xp I can get is Voritor Hunters on Dantooine. These missions pay 24K+ creds, and to pull them you need to be in a group with a few others or have a grouped AT-ST. Each lair spawns 6 voritors, and each voritor gives 1040xp (max Ican get so far).

As for pet level, this the bit I find confusing. I have level 10,15,18,19,22 and 25 pets at my disposal (most borrowed from friends) and I've found that the level 15 cowardly gurreck I have gives the most xp. The level 10 is too low, and the lvl 18+ pets are too high. Why this is the case I have no idea, as it seems there is no incentive to have a pet greater than level 15 if you are xping. WIth good pet stims it isn't hard to keep a level 15 pet with 3.2k ham upright if you are tanking for it (I'm a master TK).

I hope that once i can use two level 15 pets I will get the maximum xp possible, but I have no idea about this. I tried the level 15 with a level 10 pet and got much less xp.

If anyone knows a better way to grind CH then please post it
