Thread: Can someone explain the way XP normally works now?

OK --- this whole Pub 19 business is making it impossible to get a real read on things (but ironically does help me grind XP). I really don't know how XP works in the post CU era. Does the "real" level of the pet count?

FULL DISCLOSURE: I used to be a Master CH, left right after CU out of frustration, and am returning for dubious reasons (FS grind). I asked this in the FS forum and got not answer, so figured I'd shamefully return to my former home to ask for help.

For example, say I am a level 70 character with novice CH. Fighting a level 70 MOB, I pull a level 15 pet, group with it, and it assumes my level 70. Is the XP that pet returns any greater or worse than if I became a master CH and pulled a pet that was already level 70 to begin with?

The reason I ask is because I am getting less XP with a Mountain Wort fighting level 68 Mobs than when I use a Dune Bantha, and the bantha returns less than when I use a Delerious Merek Avenger. This seems to be the reverse of the old school XP where lower-level pet vs. higher level mob = greater XP. Is the way things always are, or are things completely wacked due to the Pub 19 stuff?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Weird, I just noticed that my kills are getting dimminishing returns. The creature and pet that was yielding 336 XP dropped to 100-something and is now down to 68.
