Thread: MCH + MRanger viable?
I'm sold on BE pets! If you get a good one, you'll get a level 70 pet that will handle a level 80+ just fine! I have a MCH/MBE with a total combat level of 54 and I kill Malkloc Bulls all the time when I anger them while sampling. Its riding cadillac style! My cat just jumps on em and all I have to do is embolden and enrage.
Recap- A level 54... with a level 70 pet... killing level 82 creatures... and not even breaking a sweat!
Personally, I think BE pets are the most underrated aspect of CH.

BE pets r nice and all but CH+ranger doesnt exactly say check me out i got loads of cash......plus...this is just me with BE pets i dont get as attached to as once i actually tamed...now u make the pets so its basicly the same thing as taming....almost
Not even close! BE pets can far outstrip natural pets. The only exception being elite pets, and even then, elite pets dont sport near the level of armor that BE pets do. They're just better.
Now, if taming makes you just like them better out of sentimental value... thats a different matter. I suspect I feel the same way about my crafted pets when i see them DESTROY anything that tries to attack me...
As a former master ranger, I would disagree. Most of us don't do it for the cash but it's a great profession for making money.

I think it depends on several factors.
You say you want to be able to kill CL80 mobs ... but do you mean the odd one that happens to attack you? Or do you mean that you want to get into intensive CL80 creature hunting in order to get resources?
And do you mean hunting solo, or with a group?
Another poster suggested you get some Carbineer skills, and you yourself asked what other skills to take. Well, the fact of the matter is that with MCH + Master Ranger you don't have enough SP left for any elite combat skills, not even a novice box !
I used to be MCH/Master Ranger, but post-CU I have dropped down to MCH/Ranger 4040/Rifleman 4003. Yes, with my best petsI can solo a CL80, but it takes time, and I have to be careful not to do too much damage with the rifle, or I get aggroed. It is slow work, and hard work.If my aim is toharvest resources, it is far better to hunt with a group.
So, in my humble opinion, to summarise, if you want to mainly play/hunt in groups, then MCH/MRanger is viable ... your pets will be your weapons. If you want to go solo, I think you will have trouble, and you will need to drop some Ranger boxes to get some elite combat skills.
