Thread: What is a decent 'meat hunting' pet?

I'm a Master BE so I can pretty much tailor my pets to what I need. Hopefully I'll be hitting the mid CL20s with my CH skills in the next few days (currently 1111 and doing it the 'old fashioned' way) and then I can make a decent hunting pet.

What I'd like to know from experience CHs is what sort of pet stats make for a good 'hunter'. I had to drop my combat abilities to take CH all the way up to master later and currently have something like 0031 pistoleer to help kill things quicker

Can some of you please advise me on what sort of damage output and other stats help a pet be more than a 'meat shield' in combat, since I have good armour and don't need a 'tank'

I would suggest you get the damage and kinetic resists as high as you can. If you can get AR1 in that level pet, then do so. You probably also want a DOT special. You will find that pets do little damage to MOBS and you will be relying on your pistol skills. Even on mid to low level MOBS it will take forever for the pets to take down a lair. With a decent pistol of the correct damage type for what you are hunting, you will do far more damage than the pets will.

AR1 and 60%Kin are do-able at around CL15 (I have a dewback of that type that a BE friend made) but to get the armour/resist you have to sacrifice the damage a little. *coughs*

I'll experiment with some 'CH Only' stats this weekend and see what I can do for damage and to hit % ignoring HAM, and other combinations like that. Probably have to be multi-generational but Zadokk kindly gave me the 'teletubbie' explanation of how that works

my higher lv pets are all armor, 60% kin at least, damage hovers little over 500,this is in the low 40's levels. I find a good 20ish pet, armor, 60%kin with 200 damage paired with a high damage pet in the 40's works well.

Arachnes, Gaping spiders, Boar wolfs, Crimson Razor cats all have pretty good resists and damage at a variety of CL's.

The poison specials on the spiders are decent, it a little random. If you can get or BE something with Plague Strike, Strong Poison, Open Wounds or any other DOT you can usually do some damage.
