Thread: A Way To Make Multiple Pets Useful?
This could be a nice solution to at least our "Multiple Pets Are Useless" problems.
Instead of saying: "70 is your max amount of total pet levels, period" when it comes to CH or MCH using multiple pets, why not throw a little math in to the problem and make it so we can use say...2 pets at 80% of your max level? Or 3 at 70% of max level?
That would mean: 2 pets at apx CL56 each, or 3 pets atapx CL49 each at Master Creature Handler. Maybe a bit higher % for the 3 pets, since it's an ability that only a MCH can have, and you would expect a Master of anything to be far better than others of the same proffession.
At least with this idea our multiple pet abilities would have a use. When talking multiple creatures, it needs to be realized that as a CH, youshouldn't be able to control multiples of the MOST powerful creatures, but as creature handlers, we should be able to use multiple creatures strong enough to fight the most powerful creatures and have both of them live, if just barely. I can easily understand why we shouldn't be allowed to pull out 3 bull rancors at the same time. That would just be insane, and make us WAY too strong in PVE. But give us something! At present: out multi-pet abilites do absolutely NOTHING for us!
The multi-pets that we can call now die too fast to even give us the extra exp from using 2! We're lucky to have 1 survive!
If leaving the mental math to us players is a worry for the Devs, then why not throw in an extra skill, like: Multiple Pet Level? That way people wouldn't complain about not being sure what levels they could currently use.
Just a humble suggestion from a not-so-humble CH.
Actually, I ran over a couple of numbers before i settled on 80% and 70%. (And really, I figured if we shoot a bit high, we might be more likely to get something that's still useful like 75% <apx CL53 each> and 66% <apx CL 46 each> )
And honestly, it wouldn't make as much sense to have 3 pets at 50%, since 1) They'd still be too weak to be truely useful, and you'd almost always lose at least 1 on big creature fights, not matter what, and 2) only a Master CH can have 3 pets, and MCH's should be better than other CH's....that's why they're the Masters! ![]()
They are also still convinved that a CH being able to call pets freely would be an exploit and a grief tatctic. This is so not an issue since they added the 60 sec timer after combat is over to store pets, but they still insist it is.
I apprecitat the idea and agree with it, but not much point at begging for an Un-nerf. we may as well go back to demanding that pets get back pre-december stats.
I am a MCH and even 'I' think this is a bad idea from the 'get go'.
Don't get me wrong, I, too have secret dreams of Online Omnipotence, but no Dev in their right mind would even consider this nor would any other profession stand for it.
Imagine 3 CL49 BE'd Pets with AR1, 12k HAM and high resists or even 2 CL56 BE'd Pets with 12k HAM, AR1, High Resists with something like Strong Poison and Blinding Strike or Knockdown and Area Poison, etc. You'd practically be soloing the Geo Cave.
This would simply steer Creature Handling into a complete 180 and set us back to the pointto the reasonwe were nerfed in the first place, back when you could have 3 GSP's with 65% Kinetic. And the Cycle would simply continue.

Something I'd like to steal... er... borrow is a variant of Ultima Online's "pack mentality" system.
Here's a quote from UO's Update Center:
Pack Instincts
If you have at least 2 pets with the same pack instinct under your control, each of those pets gets a bonus to their damage. Use Animal Lore to determine what pack instincts your pet has. Some typical pack instincts are: Arachnid, Canine, Feline, and Ostard.
The idea here would be that a single slice hound is not so powerful... but two at once would get like a 25% bonus to damage. Three at once would get a 50% bonus. For SWG's purposes, the bonus would probably make more sense in the form of resists. Thus, you could give three weaker pets enough of a bonus to make them equivalent to the tanking power of a CL 60 light armored bruiser.
