Please forgive me if this has been talked about before but in the Ranger forums we are constantly discussing changes that could be made and since we are such a useless set of skill points right now we are considering everything out there.
Well, we were discussing herd hunting in the game. We thought it would be really nice to see actual herds of creatues out there to hunt but if they spooked on you they aggo'd and would trample you to death. So, we thought mount hunting would be much better say hunting a herd of bantha running about the plains of Tat.
So, that got me to thinking. Why arent there battle trained mounts? As it is horses can be taught to ignore gunshot sounds and the smell of blood without spooking and sending them flying. Why not the same for cu pa's?
I was thinking of a CH having a specific skill. Say Master Creature Handler and Master Rifleman. So, each mount would get trained for battle with the skils the CH had at the time. Your mount could make some melee attacks while you are mounted tho this would limit a Rifleman from firing since the pet would be in the line of fire. Also, damage from a mount would lessen since its carrying a burden and would also tire faster. So, strafing types of attacks could be initiallized from a mounted position.
Perhaps it would be better if a CH could train 3 specific special attacks for a player to use while mounted. So, if I were a Master Rifleman and CH I could train a mount to use /concealshot after teaching the mount to kneel and steady up. Simiilar to taking cover but for a mount. Also, teaching it MIndshot2 would require it steady up but if on the move it would get a negative mod therefore lowering the overall hit to creature points. And if a CH didnt have the skills a customer wanted their mounts to be able to help them with then CH could teach the mount while the player used those moves.
I can see using specials while mounted would be pretty limited to ranged attacks but not entirely useless. Melee artists like TKM would be pretty limited with what they could do but I see fencers, swordsman and pikeman all getting along quite nicely.
Also, this could open up a useful area in PvP. If you dismounted while your mount was attacking a target you would have to continue to give the creature commands and encouragement to keep it fighting. I would just love to see a group of rebels ride into an imp town and have a cupa or what not attacking one guy in melee while the rider attacked someone else at a distance.
This is just off the top of my head and I was just wondering what you guys would think about it.

I'm a big fan of making mounts combat-capable while being ridden, but I'm not sure reducing their damage is needed as a tradeoff. The damage from pets tends not to be overwhelming as is... and you really don't have any mobility advantage while mounted in combat unless you're galloping (in which case you cannot attack at all).
I do think pet specials would be a great boon, though. For example, riding up to a group of enemies and commanding your mount to use its Dizzy or Posture Down attack on them.

Granted I know nothing about damage from pets as it is but I would think that a mount trained for battle would do more damage than a untrained mount. And in the same sense a mount while carrying a player would do only a slightly less amount of damage. Considering carrying a load and being sure not to throw the rider and what not. Just a tradeoff so they dont get way overpowered and they would have no reason to go unmounted. I think a percentage less damage and tiring the animal quicker would justify only sporadic use.
Adding battle trained creatures to your profession would liven things up a bit I would think. And would increase the demand for them I would think.
