I just got CH tonight (yay!) and I set out to tame me a pet. (mainly because I don't have a lot of money)
So I find a durni, tame it in two tries.
I look on swgcreatures.com and see that female dire cats are CL 10, so I say to myself "Well, I guess that would be a better starting pet than a durni would.".
So I find a dire cat lair mission out of Coronet. I get to the lair and there's a female dire cat baby.
I put on Maskscent, and go try to tame it. I see that I've avoided two of the dire cats. (There were only two near me, so I though I avoided all of the ones that could see me.)
I start to tame it and I get to the third thing he says.
A dire cat comes out of nowhere and attacks me! So I kill the baby, and the mission.
I go get another mission from a player town and I find TWO!
And you guessed it, I killed them because the stupid dire cats aggro'd me.
Now, I was thinking.... How could I fail three times if I have +10 to taming?
Do you guys know if it's broken? Any help would be appreciated.

You failed because you aggroed the adults in the babies detection range. My advice would be to get a +16 or so mask scent outfit and wear that. And/or lure the adults one at a time by letting them detect you in groups of 1 or 2. I know its a pain but belive me when you going out on dant taming rancors unbuffedwith nothing but your +16 taming shirt and a loot geo pistol its an even bigger one. It has to be done just right and belive me it takes some pratice. Idealy you want to kill all the adults without aggroing the babies.
heres a few tips
1. DO NOT attack the lair and if you have to in orderto make more ctratures spawn use another pet to do itbecause any new critters that spaw will aggro you; rather have a pet do it and then let it get incapped.
2. Mask scent
3. Draw individual pets away and kill them away from the lair
4. A +16 Taming shirt and +16 mask scent pants or something.
5. Lots of Pratice.
This is just how I do it many others may have different technicques.

I wish I could afford taming and/or maskscent clothing, but I usually don't have much money....
I guess I'll use my tanking droid to lure the adults away next time.
And I also assume that the +10 mod isn't broken?
Thanks for the help, Joker9125.

The bonus is not broken. That is just the way taming works. I am a MCH and wear +25 taming clothes and it is not unusual for me to fail to tame a number of times, even on low level creatures. There is a random number generator that takes your skill levels and determines if each tame succeeds or fails. I have tamed high level agro creatures on the first try and taken 20 tries on some low level creatures. It is a combination of your skill levels and luck. The same goes for train. Although, some creatures are easier to train than others.

I don't know if others have experienced this but I get the impression the system tracks how many of an animal type you have trained. I went up through the 3rd level boxes on 99% taming and found that with each successful train of a creature type the next one got a bit easier. I never fail on gnorts and ikopi anymore having tamed litterallydozens of each. I also found they got easier even when in the same skill level, meaning I got no new boxes between successive trains.
Lairs spawn at two points, after the first hit and at 50 percent damage. Wild lairs are a bit trickier because they will sometimes continue to spawn after the first hit with no easy way to tell if its done and ready to be hit again. With a mission lair kill everything that is out, hit the nest once, and immediately hit peace. The next spawn cycle will come out without agroing on you. Once the nest has spawned the same number of creatures as was out when you arrived take the nest to just 50%, no more, and peace again. Now it will spawn the final x number of creatures. If you are actively shooting the nest when a creature spawns from it they will attack you, regardless of creature type and aggressiveness.
Pulling the adults away works fine except for the babies mom. For the lower level pets especially, the baby is always on /follow of one adult. Often agroing the parent will automatically agro the baby so you really have to be careful using this technique. I prefer to watch the nest and wait till I see the mom doing something like laydown or in some other way get still. Then I go for baby. If they break maskscent then hit your burst run key and get out of range fast (put guns away before starting the tame). Another good practice is to hit the peace key before you enter the nest area, often the aggressive creature will not automatically agro on you if they break mask scent when you are peaced out. Waiting till the mom is still means that baby won't suddenly run to the mom who has moved away from you just as the tame cycle is about to finish. It is really aggrevating to get almost there then see baby run to momma and get the "creature is too far away to tame" message.
