- We all know about pets being slow since the CU.
- There have been several tests done that show Fleet Footed has no benefit.
- For those persuing the FS lines, you might be aware of how the commander in one of the phase 3 missions only walks. However, when he escapes he can run.
Today I was doing the Valerian quests before they went away (the failed patch actually let me start this as I thought I had more time). During the course of the quests were two "escort" missions. I could leave the people behind, however they did follow me but only walked, exactly like the commander in the FS quest.
This got me to thinking that perhaps all of these things have the same root cause. Creatures are inherently faster than humanoids. People rarely do the 50 credit escort missions so the FS quest was the only one that got any attention. While I cannot say for sure, I assume that for escorts to work players become the NPCs' "master" (they also take the player's faction, so not an unreasonable guess). This same thing might be preventing Fleet Footed from working properly.
So what I think is causing these slowdowns is something with AI when following, or maybe with having a "master". The follow code may be used to approach for attacks so that could explain why they are still slow then. (The "master" AI idea is an alternate place to look if it is not obvious in the follow AI as it is a common denominator.) The only anecdotal evidence I have is that when pets wandered a few publishes ago, my gaping spider hunter seemed to move fairly quickly.
Do those that use droids or faction pets see a similar slow behavior out of them? Ko-a, is this something that can be pointed out to the devs for further study? If these do in fact have a common cause then fixing it would help both our profession and anyone that has an escort mission.

Droids also slowed down, after the CU. Since I rely on both my pets and droid, I noticed this immediately, then tested it, and reported it right away.

That's a nice theory. I hope that someone with access to the code has a chance to test it out.

So in the new patch notes up on Test Center (ignoring the old Elite creatures bit):
It looks like these might have been interrelated as I was thinking. Has anyone had a chance to see if pet speed in general is functioning better? Do cats run fast again even without specials? Do escort targets run instead of walk?
While I doubt it, I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in knowing if Fleet-Footed affects mount speed. (I believe these are set and will not change, but I'll happily be wrong if someone wants to disprove this.
)
General -- Phase 3: Melee Accuracy Quest: The Sith Shadow commander will now run and can negotiate steep terrain more effectively.
Profession CH -- Pets now properly use their speed enhancing abilities.
