Should I surrender my novice medic skills, or do I need it to use Pet Stims?

You do not need medic skills to use pet stims. So, if you need those 15 SP for something else, surrender them and prepare to spend time looking for crates of pet stims.

One question. Are you a TK? How do you plan to heal yourself, if necessary, in the wilderness?

The only time I played without at a bare minimum novice medic was when I only played with some rl friends and one was a combat medic. Dont need them for pet stims but still get hit a fair bit even with pets.

I highly reccomend getting 4340 medic. Because...

you can heal for almost 3k per shot and 1k in between heals with good stim d's and good pet stimcs. Major help when you are fighting high level MOBs.
